The Glenn McGrath type of bowler which I think Gus Atkinson.. We need a balance attack not all about pace and pace but being accurate and tight Hes also gone for the most runs from any bowler on either team and has gone for nearly 5 an over on average across 8 innings. Although you've kind of agreed with me shortly afterwards by saying it's about being accurate and tight (which is 100% correct). Edited December 28, 2025 by TugaysMarlboro Quote

Carse attack the batsman so will normally go for runs, whilst someone like Atkinson shouldn't. Tongue, plus other seam bowlers we have. Quote

Carse has bowled too short and wide most of the time. Poor. Brian Statham always bowled at the stumps, always. "I'm not running in 20 yards for the batsman to leave the ball alone," he said. True 70 years ago and true now. Quote

RevidgeBlue Posted December 28, 2025 Posted December 28, 2025 I felt sorry for people who'd bought a ticket for day 3, especially those flying over from England. Let's be honest Australia weren't bothered having won the series and England were hardly any better. Both sides played it like they wanted 3 days off. Just because the pitch is doing a bit doesnt mean you have to treat it like a T20. England have been desperately uncompetitive in the other tests as well. There are times when you have to dig in - you can't be completely gung ho all the time. Quote

Carse was very good in Melbourne, he’s played all 4 tests and the lad makes things happen. He has a knack of getting rid of Australia’s top order, not a bad knack to have in my book. His biggest strength right now? He’s fit and raring to go, as injuries hit us hard. Edited December 28, 2025 by Gav Quote

I'm just glad all that preparation in the first 3 warm-up games games meant England won the first Test in Melbourne Quote

I only saw the highlights from the last test but I saw several batsmen get out to what appeared to just be straight balls. I didn’t see many get out to balls that did un-playable things. We need a change at grass roots level, a change to the county game, I agree with that, but we still need to win test matches. Now the bazball approach has failed in Oz, I’m hoping for something in between moving forward, we have the players who can adapt to both forms of the game, lets find that middle ground as we push towards a 2027 Ashes win in UK. 2 Quote
