Audax Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/england-boss-hodgson-caught-up-2460799 Eh? This is a bad thing to print alright as far as I'm concerned. ----------- All that said, I don't see what the big deal is in saying a general thing like the press stirs up things, is negative, puts on the pressure, etc. We don't mean all the press, probably don't mean more than 5% tops of newstories, tv news...an extreme minority.

jim mk2 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 The players, manager and everything surrounding the team is of great interest to the public - is the press only supposed to publish the "nice" stories ? How do you expect the press to report the national team - match reports and nothing else ? The press is generally negative only when the team has had a bad result, or when it has played badly, which is only to be expected. I'm saying this so-called "pressure" is a load of nonsense and if players and managers cannot perform without this "pressure", and to use it as excuse for failure, they weren't good enough in the first place.

Crap joke yes, racist no. Anybody making out he meant it that way is seriously stretching for a link, besides which, Woy doesn't have a harmful bone in him and to suggest otherwise is obscenely malicious, if any player was shocked by the joke then he is a @#/?.
FGS5635 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Well the press havent done themselves any favours today with the roy race headline. What a nonsensical pathetic story with no purpose other than to sell papers and affect roy and the team. The press aint the reason we dont win tournaments, but they certainly play their part. Pathetic
Blue n White Rover Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Fair criticism from my point of view. If Suarez had made that comment he would have been slaughtered. Rightly so Hodgson gets the same negative media attention. Expecting a touchline ban. Only fair.

Pathetic Good story and of legitimate interest to fans and the public. Perhaps Hodgson will be more careful in future. Good to see that fans are getting in early their blame for the next World Cup failure.
Amo Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Most "journalists" would sell their own mother for a scoop, even if it means having to invent one. Didn't you work in the press, Jim? That would explain your rather priggish view on all this.

FGS5635 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 andros townsend @andros_townsend 6m I don't know what all this fuss is about. No offence was meant and none was taken! It's not even news worthy!
FGS5635 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 To take a step back on this subject the press certainly were not in the dressing room at the time of the comment. Begs the question who in the eng setup leaked this to the press as a story
perthblue02 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 To take a step back on this subject the press certainly were not in the dressing room at the time of the comment. Begs the question who in the eng setup leaked this to the press as a story If you follow Oliver Holts twitter, that's his point , the story is not the story but who leaked it. Interesting conversation between him and Stan Collymore, who's taking the moral high ground . Unfortunately the leak has not been named yet
FGS5635 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Just followed him now and am reading Stans's tweets. I must say I like Stan, really suprises you after all the press he got as a player. Always thought he was a nob, but he's a fairly articulate intelligent guy at times and talks alot of common sense about most football matters Stan Collymore @StanCollymore 1m Don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to know who leaked it either. Think who's his mentor, and who's he worked with a lot. Join the dots. Is he suggesting townsend leaked it as Harry is his mentor? or am I adding 2+2 and getting 5?

From what I read last night in those tweets it seemed to be pointing to somebody who didn't play on Tuesday who had been passed story from somebody who did play, might have changed since then not looked today
FGS5635 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Well here's who was on the bench 12 Jones 13 Ruddy 14 Gibbs 15 Wilshere 16 Lampard 17 Milner 18 Barkley 19 Defoe 20 Sterling 21 Lambert 22 Forster From that he's clearly saying its defoe imo

I must be thick, I can't see the dots. I would be surprised if it is Townsend, he seems a very decent lad and Woy gave him his debut. Whoever it was is a scummy piece of kean, on an evening when all should be be celebrating qualification, some spiteful, spoilt little kean spits his dummy out, beyond belief. No loyalty to his manager, the team or the fans, just a self-indulgent kean, who will hopefully never get selected again, we don't need vipers in the team. On the Stan Collymore front, any bloke who hits women is a cowardly wretch.
Majiball Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Defoe and Arry have been together at west ham, Pompey and spuds, he even tried to take him to QPR, they are very close. Do people think what has been leaked is acceptable by a player? because it's only been leaked to make Woy look bad and just after qualifying as well.
Guest Norbert Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Soooo, any jokes involving monkeys are automatically racist now? Is that the deal we have? Therefore the whole Eddie Izzard routine about learning French by taking a monkey along with him, as it was in a textbook also disgusting and outrageous. In that case, I find white chocolate racist, as it is not as nice as normal chocolate. You can infer that I think this is a non-story, probably hyped up by bitter people who are big mates with Redknapp.

If this was indeed a story hyped by honest 'Arry's mates, then it is truly a treacherous and poisonous act.
perthblue02 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 As a joke its quite funny but obviously as a tactic it didn't work as at no point during the game did I see a rocket ,Astronaut, or a monkey on the pitch. Took $IFA ages to accept goal line technology so the chances of the previous three being allowed are non existent. Perhaps Roy had been having a puff on some of Morroco's finest.
FGS5635 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I guess we will find out with the next eng squad. If defeo is missing from that squad, then 2+2 =4
Guest Norbert Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 I bet Oliver Holt is all over this like a fat spinster on a cake.
Moderation Lead K-Hod Posted October 17, 2013 Moderation Lead Posted October 17, 2013 I bet Oliver Holt is all over this like a fat spinster on a cake. You bet- he's arguing with Collymore!!
somersetrover Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 The 'joke' was racist whether he meant it to be or not. The media are always going on about what an intelligent man Hodgson is and let's not forget that this is a man who played football in apartheid South Africa during the boycott. So with the evidence you either have to conclude that Hodgson is incredible naïve and not as intelligent as the media make out or Hodgson is a racist?
FGS5635 Posted October 17, 2013 Posted October 17, 2013 Im a white man so my views on racism are always naive, but I fail see how is comments can in any way be racist
