Its irrelevant what people said before the season. We were in the top 6 for a big chunk of the season and fell out, provoked again by how badly we are run as a club.

Obviously they deserve praise but I definitely think thats its not controversial to suggest that the biggest reason for us being up there was Eustace.

It does come down to standards. Im not going to wax lyrical about a successful season considering the running of the club has caused us to be in the top 6 and fall away at the end due to how terribly we are run. The feeling looking back is frustration and anger, not positivity.

And its not a building block because its built on quicksand.

of course its relevant as we had what we expectations before the season started but for some reasons you won't or can't say what yours were, maybe cos we over achieved this season but that wouldn't fit your argument would it!

I would say the players more than Eustace as they are the one on the pitch who has to delivered it on the pitch.

You would!

It was the players who cost us a chance of the play offs by sulking for six and a half games after Eustace left so I'm not sure why people are queuing up to lavish praise upon them.

I think den is the only one who has it right with his appraisal, at the end of the day it was another wasted season in what has become a race against time given the problems presented by the ownership and management.

We didn't make playoffs cos we didn't pick up enough points. Simple as.

We made progress on the pitch this season compare to last. Pass most expectations where they thought we would finish. Pundits all wrong.

A boardroom shit show from start to finish. As all previous seasons under Venky’s. But probably even more so - the No.1 shit show (so far) - given the turn of events in February.

Ollie has summed up my feelings.

From the outside looking in, it may appear we had a decent season but it was a golden opportunity deliberately ignored.

Somehow, the stars seemed to have aligned:

A good manager getting the best out of the players available. Top 6 in January making the club an attractive prospect for decent players. A FFP position which would allow many millions of pounds to be invested into the playing side without the fear of reprisals. Billionaire owners with  'no impediment' to funding the club to their hearts' desire.

How did it play out?

The manager decided to walk away. No money was spent to strengthen the squad. The COO advised the owners that no money was required. No money was provided. Form dipped. Opportunity thrown away. First team players once again leaving for (virtually) free. Rudy Gestede, with no experience at all, rolled out to face the public with more excuses.

The advantageous FFP position gained by selling our best players will soon be gone due to the rolling 3 year rule.

The owners have no interest at all. I would rather have owners with no money but plenty of enthusiasm.

In August and in January, WATR board members offered to fly out to India, at their own expense, in order to talk to the owners and attempt to make them realise that the current self financing ideology is doomed to failure and ( in January ) explain the golden opportunity that had transpired this season.  On both occasions they refused the proposal stating that they didn't need to consult with fans or fan organisations. They are cowards. They listen only to Pasha who has no mandate other than reducing costs.

The only way to make them take notice is by hitting them in the pocket. NAPM

Well it was better than I thought but once again the spotlight was on the off field activities as the owners and upper management screwed us once again.

Going into the season I really didn't rate Eustace and thought his vastly underfunded team shorn of Sammi would struggle. Shows what I know!

Eustace impressed me getting this lot to perform and our position in January given the team.and investment was the most impressive during Venkys reign of terror.

Of course the owners and upper management screwed it up all over again. Losing a manager to a near relegation certs is one of the most damning illustrations of the crapfest and unprofessional sickness that grips Rovers these days. The transfer window was laughable. The interviews cringe worthy and the selection process of a new manager - heaven forfend we actually plan in advance for this stuff - agonising.

As an aside two managers having the hump in successive Januarys? When will peoples critical faculties kick in and think "you know there might be some issues with this club..."

How good is the new chap? Hard to tell from this season. I liked his previous work and felt he'd had a rough deal but I've am awful feeling things only got better when the pressure was off. He might not be that good. Which means on top of the usual circus of embarrassment mean it was another missed opportunity.

I genuinely can't see there being many more opportunities too. How many good manages will our lot get in? Is there any family silver left to sell? Not every year will the youth team bail us out  (everyone in football knows not all kids make the grade - apart from Gestede who is determined to give 3,000,000,000 minutes to our youngsters next season.)

All in all it makes it a pretty awful season again. As it will always be until this cancer - and I use this word in a considered manner but it feels the most apt in the situation - is removed from our club.
