He was meant to be our big splurge signing at reportedly £1m+ and signing up for 3+ years. Seriously, given the background, if you are player or agent would you be signing up in the Championship at £5k a week, in my opinion, more nonsense.

I definitely believe the reported £10k per week budget salary cap. I imagine they will currently work on an average over the squad but their desire would be to get the higher earners down to that sort of level and hence why no senior players renew contracts. However, a ‘big’ money signing on a multi year contract at £5k a week, I don’t believe that at all, in those circumstances, no sane player and perhaps, more importantly, Agent would sign up on those terms.

Big money signing? We paid an initial £1 million hardly a big money signing to be fair

Which equates to a lot more than £5K/week

But he did use "" when stating big money, which indicates that whilst it may be big money for current day Rovers, it is not big money when compared to our rivals

Hence the quote marks ‘big’, in the Pasha / Gestede / Venky run husk of our beloved and once proud and famous Blackburn Rovers.

Not saying he I'd definitely right but I find 5k per week plausible for Gueye. The average salary in the Belgium top flight will not be a lot

Correct, but agents know what they can get their clients from Championship clubs

Its a lot more than £5K/week (even here)

Did Gueye have another buyer from the championship? I doubt it very much

Plus the team we bought him from had been relegated hadn't they ? So he was probably looking at a reduction in his wage if he stayed there.

Like I said it's plausible he is on that little.

Also I think Gueye had a spell in Spain at Real Zaragoza. It might not have gone too well but they signed him for a fee and will have no doubt paid decent wages.

That doesn't matter

If you have a job which pays £50K a year, and get offered a job with another company who you know pays everyone else in your role £100K/year (or more), you don't accept £60K/year because it is more than you are currently on

He was on loan there

Actually I just checked and it was only a loan at Zaragoza. However, I still think a player and agent know their relative market / value and with strikers, there is always a premium.

Well it does matter really.

If he has no other buyer then him and his agent have a choice of staying at his current club in the Belgium 2nd division or signing here for 5k a week, more than what he Is being paid at his Belgian club.

Rovers are clearly targeting that market because the fees and wages are cheap

So you walk away from the extra 10k a year and carry on earning 50k? I wouldn't. I'd take the job, then use the enhancement on my CV to apply for some other 100k jobs a year or so down the line, whether in the same business or elsewhere.

(Well, I'd try my arm at asking for more like 80k first, but if ultimately I didn't get it I'd still take the 60k)

He signed for RWDM for €3m a year before signing for Rovers

And then went on to score at a ratio of 1 in 3 despite playing for a team who were relegated

There is no way he is signing for Rovers at £5K/week, sorry

Anything under £10K/week is cheap,

yep

Which in Gueyes case, equates to him earning a lot more than £5K/week

standard rovers january window,an early loan, then nothing for weeks, then the last week another loan followed by someone at the end of their career who was useful 5 seasons ago,we all know the script🙂

Don't forget a contract extension for someone like Forshaw or Tavares

Not necessarily. If you need that extra £10k then you might bite the bullet. Once in situ then you either try to make yourself so valuable that efforts are made to keep you or you use it as a stepping stone to move on.

I was once in a job where I was underpaid. The boss knew I would leave soon if not paid more. Several people had just left so they were keen for me not to go and I was able to negotiate a significant rise.

If Rovers were a normal club some of the above would be happening. Unfortunately we're not so the downgrade will continue.

wpnder if edmondson will get recalled after his recent impressive maccesfield form

He is probably a better backup for Tronstad than anyone they can afford to buy are wiling to pay for

And he would be another who has gone straight from National League North into our first team, without loans elsewhere in-between

Quite a collection now, Montgomery, Atcheson, Litherland, Powell and Pratt all been in tier 6 over the past 12 months
