1962 The middlesbrough cup tie in that fixture list. So next February it's 44 years. Played a bit of football during my teens, but was down at Ewood whenever the games were called off, which pretty often. Don't look who finished runners up in the table that season -

I thought Cole was excellent during his last season with us. He appeared to have won over most of the fans, as SG 194 said. -

Another way to look at it: Put yourself in a mackem fans shoes. Would you be happy to see the club signing a striker who scored 2 goals last season being brought in to hopefully score the goals to keep your team in the prem, first season back? The answer has to be "no". If that's the case, what's the argument to keep him here? -

Wouldn't he be on less than jansen was on? not forgetting he was touted as "one for the future" and someone who wouldn't have an impact this season, i can't imagine him being given a high salary, must have been similar to gally. Now on the other hand has probally doubled his wage packet and goal bonus! We needed the money, it's a sad situation! edit: Might frame my stead shirt! 323480[/snapback] Well, apparently Matty is on a reduced contract based on pay as you play. So no, I don't think Matt will be on more than Stead. -

Hughesy didn't seem to rate Stead from day one. Last season rovers managed to get 42 points from 32 goals. We couldn't go into next season like that, we would get relegated for certain with that kind of goal power. Something had to change. No use selling Jansen, Gally or Johnson - no money in that, Stead would be on bigger wages and would bring a higher fee. Things had to change, and change a lot. -
Blackburn Rovers striker Jon Stead today signed a four year deal with newly promoted Sunderland. To read the rovers fans reaction to a popular player leaving the club, read the top fans messageboard www.brfcs.com

The club must take some criticism over their efforts to sell season tickets. If you aren't a current season ticket holder and haven't got access to the internet, you probably don't even know the season ticket prices, never mind the deadlines. Where's the selling? Where's the master plan for improving the squad? What are the targets for next season - top half/bottom half? Is there any money available? The silence is deafening. Tickets wont sell under those circumstances. Has anyone seen any reason, why someone who didn't have a season ticket last season, should buy one this? -

3 arrived in this part of Leyland, at lunchtime. -
There is that, yeah.

What needs to be understood, is that although the biggest Derby for the folks in Blackburn is the dingle derby, once you go westwards from Blackburn, the rivalry is between rovers and north end. Dingles don't exist west of ewood. I can count on one hand the number of burnley fans in leyland. They're a non entity here. North end-rovers has been a great rivalry here, shown by the burial ceremony or the ressurrection in Bamber Bridge. How many Blackburn based rovers fans would want Burnley promoted today? It's the same feelings towards north end here. Hence Abbeys allegiance to West Ham. Them north enders wouldn't be wanting rovers promoted in the same situation.

Looks like they're trying, Alan. It's the right way to go, but it will take a lot more of the same to get through with some real impact. Come and join us - Hughes. -
Vinjay, there is a good debate to be had as regards the ties between rovers and the Jersey trust. It is of interest to all of us. You don't go about it very well though. I'm sure you're brighter than you appear. Give it a go?
-
Vinjay, when you're in with Mr Williams and you've told him you want more money off the trust fund and John Williams has agreed with you, what are you going to say next?

[Archived] 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales

Well for my two penn'orth on boosting ticket sales, or attendances in general. There is no reason to suggest that a big money signing will improve attendances. It could be argued that the signing of Andy Cole proved that. £7.5-8m was it? A recognised goalscorer and no proof that it made one iota of difference to the gates. In fact, the first home game after he signed, I believe the attendance was actually down on the previous one. The clubs that see increases in gates, are in the main, from the clubs whose fans believe the club is moving forward. If they see improvements on the pitch and the right noises off the pitch, i.e. the positive noises coming from Hughes at the moment, they'll turn up. Can anyone say that in the last two/three seasons rovers have been a club that have moved, or look like they're going to move in the right direction? Crap football, tied with negative feedback to the fans from the manager at the time - fans don't need or want that. It isn't a lost cause though, far from it. An improvement in the football we've witnessed next season, combined with a new attitude to the clubs ambitions should at least, halt the decline in gates. -
He forgot Robert - that's 6.

I've got to admit, that even though I have heard of the G14, I didn't have a clue what they stood for. Having a quick look around their website, it appears as though they are trying to fight back against the international bodies who have the power to dictate against the clubs wishes. They do come across as being a very private organisation though. G14
