Vinjay, there is a good debate to be had as regards the ties between rovers and the Jersey trust. It is of interest to all of us. You don't go about it very well though. I'm sure you're brighter than you appear. Give it a go?
-
Vinjay, when you're in with Mr Williams and you've told him you want more money off the trust fund and John Williams has agreed with you, what are you going to say next?

[Archived] 2005/6 Season Ticket Sales
den replied to Mike Graham's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Well for my two penn'orth on boosting ticket sales, or attendances in general. There is no reason to suggest that a big money signing will improve attendances. It could be argued that the signing of Andy Cole proved that. £7.5-8m was it? A recognised goalscorer and no proof that it made one iota of difference to the gates. In fact, the first home game after he signed, I believe the attendance was actually down on the previous one. The clubs that see increases in gates, are in the main, from the clubs whose fans believe the club is moving forward. If they see improvements on the pitch and the right noises off the pitch, i.e. the positive noises coming from Hughes at the moment, they'll turn up. Can anyone say that in the last two/three seasons rovers have been a club that have moved, or look like they're going to move in the right direction? Crap football, tied with negative feedback to the fans from the manager at the time - fans don't need or want that. It isn't a lost cause though, far from it. An improvement in the football we've witnessed next season, combined with a new attitude to the clubs ambitions should at least, halt the decline in gates. -
He forgot Robert - that's 6.

Ah don't worry. Another 4 weeks and the nights start drawing in. Footy will soon be back then.

A crowd of "well over 10000" expected tonight. Official site

I've got to admit, that even though I have heard of the G14, I didn't have a clue what they stood for. Having a quick look around their website, it appears as though they are trying to fight back against the international bodies who have the power to dictate against the clubs wishes. They do come across as being a very private organisation though. G14

I shall probably do that then, Lee.

A rep of shareholders united, said a few minutes ago that he expects Glazer to announce today that he's reached the 75% mark, the board to resign today and Ferguson to resign as well.

I'm sure Shearer sees this as a way of letting byegones be byegones. I would imagine he's looking on it as his way of saluting the Rovers fans. We should do the same. We should do something special, maybe a large flag saluting the best centre forward ever seen in a Rovers shirt. Or maybe a presentation of some kind. It would have to be mighty quick though. It could be an emotional evening.

1864, I'm off to the hordens on livesy branch road. It's on there.

So do I. It's probably that they've never been a threat to anybody.

The Man City fans I spoke to after the game, thought Rovers were the worst home side they had played, this season. I replied that I thought they were the worst away side we had played. [even though they weren't].

From www.soccerweekend.com: The Premiership Season 2004/2005 Hughes points finger at Palace 22-Apr-2005 | ©football365.com Mark Hughes stoked the controversy still lingering over the Robbie Savage's tunnel bust-up in midweek by intimating that punches were thrown by a member of Crystal Palace's coaching staff. Savage was surrounded by Palace players at half-time at Ewood Park on Wednesday, furious at his challenges on Wayne Routledge, and there was pushing and shoving after other Blackburn players became involved. Rovers boss Hughes said on Friday: "I was in the dressing room but there were raised voices in the tunnel. You can understand Crystal Palace's frustration, they have not won that many games and it looked like another one was slipping away from them and they reacted in the tunnel, which was disappointing. "From my point of view, I am clear in my own mind none of my coaching staff or anyone on our management side threw any punches - possibly that can't be said for them." That 1-0 win secured Blackburn's Premiership status and pushed them into 12th place - something of an achievement considering they were bottom in November. For Hughes there has been considerable satisfaction in proving wrong those who thought he could not make the transition from Wales boss to club manager. He said: "I went through a hell of a lot with the Welsh team and that shaped me as a manager and I knew when I had an opportunity at club level I would be able to cope with the demands but other people possibly felt I hadn't paid my dues. "I think a lot of people were expecting me to fall flat on my face but they don't really know how I work and how I approach the job. "People might start seeing me as a Premiership manager now - who knows. "There's satisfaction in having done the job we were brought in to do, it has been difficult and I think people felt I didn't have enough experience. "But it was a great grounding in my previous job, there were a lot of things people were unaware about and I have used those as a manager for Blackburn." Rovers are five points behind Saturday's opponents Manchester City with a game in hand, but with a fairly straightforward run of matches could conceivably finish in the top half. Hughes, though, believes that City have been given new impetus by Stuart Pearce taking over the reins. "Stuart has done very well in his initial impact - it's usually positive when you get a change, the trick is to keep it going for 10 or 15 games and he knows that," said Hughes. "So far he's making a good case for getting the job on a permanent basis. "Shaun Wright-Phillips will also be back, he's a great talent and I had hoped he would still be a week away from his recovery! "He's a player we have to make sure we are aware of. We may be safe but we can't take our eye off the ball because with the games we have left we have the opportunity to finish even higher up the table." -

This is what Hughes actually said. An interesting little interview about the tunnel bust up and a comment about his own management style. -
Does nobody else find this scenario disappointing and worrying? Yes Capt, I do. The academy takes a lot of money out of the club and at the moment, I don't honestly think any of the youngsters are ready, or likely to be ready for the first team squad. Not for a while anyway.

Hughes said on Radio this morning, that punches were thrown in the tunnel at half time. He was in the dressing room when it happened, but he's sure that no rovers staff member or player had thrown one. That was for Palace to sort out, he said. -

Just to add to that MB. United have been given 24000 tickets. Man Utd official site Assuming Arsenal have been given the same amount, where have the other 24000? tickets gone. It would appear as though some of the fans who spilled a load of dosh for the semis', wont be invited to purchase a ticket for the final. Someone more important will take those up?

The gloss is kinda taken off by the fact that twice we lost in the semi-final (including a 4-1 trashing by Chelsea) & blew a 3-1 lead in the 2nd leg of the final vs Palace Burnley, Blackpool and PNE were in the third or fourth divisions at that point, I believe. Their fans would have been in raptures at that kind of success. True... There's also the bonus of us having beat those teams every time we've played 'em Slightly off-topic (sorry!) but when was the last time we played Blackpool? In the manx cup? Not sure about the league. One memory of mine, was rovers versus Blackpool at Bloomfield road in the sixties. It was in the first division [proper first division] and was, I'm lead to believe, the last ever game played on Christmas day. Mum wasn't too impressed with me going to football Christmas day. -
