That’s a cop out. We’ve just sold a number of players for quite a few millions of pounds (as GM said to them). That cash wasn’t anticipated. IMO it hasn’t gone back into the club and it won’t be going back into the club. It can only have gone to one other place. -

So if the owners are only going to put in roughly the same amount of money year after year (which seems to be the case), is it fair to say that money from player sales goes back to them? If it’s not being reinvested into players where else is it going? -

As regards investing in better players, or reinvesting money from player sales to try to improve the squad, the quote below from the minutes tells us what has been right in front of our eyes for most of their tenure. It isn’t going to happen. The owners apparently don’t believe that’s necessary. It’s what they said when they bought the club. I don’t for one minute the owners believe that, it’s just a narrative that suits them. GM asked whether, if the club generates funds by player sales, why the board or SS As the clubs trusted adviser can’t come to some arrangement with the owners of crystal clarity of a said % of those funds being immediately available to strengthen the squad, GM Asked had that question been asked? SS replied that, there was no such general agreement in place, or had the question been asked of the owners, though there had been reinvestment in the playing squad from player sales, such as when the club re-invested 40% of Sammie Szmodics’ transfer fee. GM Stated this was a small proportion given the club also sold Gallagher, Kaminski, Wharton amongst others in the same year, whilst they received payments for Raya and others, and this seems low investment in terms of money received. SS Stated that spending more money or increasing wages don’t guarantee a jump in league position -

I think you’re dead right. There has been no ambition at this club for many years now. From the owners their whole approach seems to be “here’s some cash, it’s all you’re getting and we don’t care what you do with it” . -

If there’s no agreement over the minutes with the club, make your case to the LT? -

Hardly the point though, is it? If it was just the right back you could argue the point - especially if there was money made available to the manager to replace him. when the club are selling absolutely anyone and everyone who can bring in a fee, and investing virtually nothing back into the squad it IS a problem. -
A good number of years ago we did a “rovers greatest ever team” discussion and vote. Lots of posters took part, arguing for their favourite player in each position. It would be interesting to read that again but it might not be on here now.

and Venkys couldn’t get rid of him soon enough😏

“we have a clear profile of player that we want. Young, very athletic, players who are very able to give us that intensity. Technically as well, to give us possibilities with the ball.“ So we want young, fast, strong and technically good players. yeah right, with no money to buy these players. If they were all that they would be at Premier League clubs PDQ. As we used to say … if that’s a viable plan I’ll show my arse in Woolworths window. -
There’s nothing like it. Fantastic entertainment. Felt sorry for Siraj, (I know) such an unlucky way to get out.

The ball I’d doing nothing.

5 day test cricket can be the best sport in the world. As a footnote Lancs are ballotting members on 4 day county cricket. Lancs are a democratic club, owned by their members, having to abide by their members decisions. The ECB want to change the format of national cricket. Currently there are 14 games a season but Lancs aren’t giving their members the option of retaining that. They are giving them only three options. All of which mean cutting the number to 12 games in order to fit in the Hundred during the peak months of summer.

He might have thought he knew but he didn’t know Chaddy - because he couldn’t know. No manager under Venkys ownership has understood them. -

I think you’re right but the LT should be honest about rovers affairs and be brave enough to put them forward. -

I think it’s about time the LT started serious questions of Venky’s ownership and the last 15 years. -

“Wage cap”. -

I remember talking to John Williams about financing a squad. He pointed out that there were two options. You either limit the wages paid individually to all players (in effect a wage cap) meaning you could have a bigger squad, or you paid the going rate and brought in a number of potentially better players but had to survive with a smaller squad. He opted for the second option. I agree with that. I guess the point is that there are different ways of managing player salaries within the same budget. Implementing a wage cap is just a choice. In my opinion a wrong choice. -

That’s a plan from people who have no idea what brings success to a club. You need a solid squad irrespective of age. Promising youngsters should be introduced into a solid first team, not be its entire makeup. -

Letting Baath leave is criminal. It just screams that they don’t know what they’re doing. -
Yeah, I’ve seen Cowdray, Barrington, Dexter and just about everyone since. Also been on Madras cricket ground 35 years ago - although there was no game on then. Such a lot of greats, such a lot of memories. From all that two cricketers stick out in my mind. Firstly Shane Warne. Two reasons. Firstly what a fabulous bowler and secondly - what a man. I found him so interesting to listen to and would have listened to him all day. He had the lot, he did the lot. Secondly Clive Loyd. Just seeing his 6’5” frame ambling slowly to the crease. He was immense. Never forget that sight. Then obviously his batting and the way he could destroy any bowler. Sometimes his fielding was overlooked. You would think he’d be so slow in the field but he fielded in the covers and was known as supercat. Try taking a quick single to Clive and you were taking a mighty risk. It only took him about three strides to cover the 22 yards. Fabulous players. So lucky to have seen them.

Don’t forget Rohan Kanhai. Sunil Gavaskar rated him as the best batsman he’d ever seen and named his son Rohan. Saw him playing for saint annes at Leyland around ‘61. He lived in Blackpool for 60 years.
