Player of the Season 2019/20
Bigdoggsteel replied to rog of the rovers's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Surprised so many are going for Travis. I love Travis, he is the type of player we have been screaming out for since probably Savage left, but he is limited though. Even Dack the other night on commentary alluded to the fact he needs to be better with the ball. If he starts doing that, he will be some player. Has to be Armstrong player of the year though. Take his goals out and we could be in a relegation fight. Take Travis out and I don't think it would be as noticeable. -
You are right, but it won't happen. The argument will be that we need to improve on last seasons point totals/finish higher up the table The thing is though, would everyone who wants what you suggest to happen, not use a lower points total/position as a stick to beat the manager with? All depends on results I suppose and it has been shown time and time again that Mowbray does not trust young players in and of themselves. God it's a pity Downing only has a 1 year deal and Johnson has 2. I would stick Stewie in all day.

I work in HR and I have to say I see it time and time again. Managers pick on those who won't create a fuss, whilst leaving those who might alone. I would say it's a less likely occurrence on football due to the nature of the game, but not here!

Damien Duff interview

We turned down a few offers for him, but the final Chelsea one was too tempting. I read we turned down 15 mil from Liverpool -

10 points from the last 11 games? Shocking -
Long, long time since he has scored a 30 year screamer.

Worth noting as well, we are closer to the relegation places (15 points) than we are to the automatic promotion places (20 points) A real season of missed opportunity. -

I never held it against him in the first place. Contributed far too much good for the club. -

So ya, Wigan 3 points behind us. I may stand corrected for saying they wouldn't pass us a few weeks back when they were 9 points behind. -
His contribution to the team is minimal, if not negative. He is selected based off Muddled Mowbrays perception of him. A perception which I think is incorrect.
-
Ya,remember that shite. Muddled Mowbray.

No signings til early to mid October so

He did hold on well to be fair!

On Bennett. I think the situation is approaching Jason Lowe as captain territory. Bennett always has an intense look on his face, but I never see him displaying any leadership qualities. He seems to get involved with niggly stuff with the ref far too regularly. I don't see him encouraging the players, motivating them or in any way communicating. Please correct me if I am wrong about this. Lenihan is a far better option as captain and this thing of interchanging them depending on if Bennett starts is more over complication at the cost of performance from Muddled Mowbray. As a player Bennett isn't good enough either. Can someone please tell me what he has contributed in a game this season that can be seen as positive? Maybe a few decent tackles, but far from enough. We are worse with him in the side. Look at Luke Ayling at Leeds and compare and contrast what a good right-back does. I mean just look at Nyambe, a far better right back.

Great interview with the Duffer and for once with an ex-Rover, they actually speak about the club a lot! This is the youtube version, but it is on podcast also. Great lad the Duffer. His interview reminded me of wingers who actually took players on.

Ya, I have spent over 50 euro watching our games since we came back. The Armstrong goal alone against Cardiff almost makes it worthwhile, but I doubt I will watch anymore now that we have died off with a whimper.
-
Rothwell, Gallagher and Davenport should have started last night in place of Samuel, Graham and Johnson. That's not even hindsight. Just what obviously was the best choice after the last game. Muddled Mowbray can't see clearly as usual. He has his good points, but it's difficult to see us every pushing into the play offs under him. Maybe a bit closer, but that's it.
-
I certainly didn't think Nyambe was struggling with confidence and even if he was ,he's still better than Bennett. Bennet is incapable of beating a player and looks suspect defensively. Starting him and getting away with it is the move of a manager under no threat of losing his job.

Armstrong (no debate really) Travis/Downing (hard to pick, but both really good) Lenihan/Tosin (much improved here from last season. Both can improve too) Would love if we can get Tosin back on loan. -
Milwall have been patchy enough at home since the return. I would just love if we could deliver a straight forward 2-0 win. Last chance saloon for them too though. I predict 2-2. We either concede late on, or miss a glorious opportunity at 2-2, probably Brereton.

The team are in London now doing a bit of sight seeing, going off Instagram

Well, this is must win. My prediction- who knows? I still think we will be in with a shout come Luton, but won't win that game.

They did change how they played as well, they just weren't good enough. The manager really being given free reign to waffle with those comments. He has earned that right I suppose. Bad start next season though and he might change his tune about whether he "did it the right way" Interesting to see if the repeated clubs will stick with their managers next season. I suspect Norwich, Villa and Bournemouth all would. -

Better lucky than good and we never seem to get that bit of luck when it matters.
