  1. Ya, that was brutal but it wasn't that straight forward. He had done a lot of good prior to it, so had credit in the bank. Won manager of the month in February I think it was. We also were never really in danger of relegation. Although I was getting a bit worried. I can't see them being happy plodding along in midtable after their audits and subsequent increase in spending. Even allowing for Waggott and Mowbrays relationship. They do their own thing, as we know to our detriment.
  2. Ah shite I was almost about to get into cricket there ?
  3. He has said he wants promotion. It would rejuvenate his career. Plus do you really belive they won't sack him if we have a similar season to last? I wouldn't bet on it. He has spent a fair bit and they aren't charity cases.
  4. Wait you don't rate Brereton and dislike Mowbray, when the change of heart? Ah Wharton is just a young lad. Probably on relatively low wages. A year on loan, actually paying this time and he might push on and we can either sell him or get him back for the first team. The club have released a lot of young lads over the last year, no harm taking a chance on one or two who they are on the fence with.
  5. Going off what we saw last season, I know this. I was one of the first on here to say he was done and actually received some flak for it , would you believe
  6. Ya, but how many games did they play together? How many goals did we concede when it was the 2 of them playing? The rest of the post you quoted one sentence from is worth reading before making out I am in favour of that pairing. The context of the entire post was that them being injury prone alone is reason enough to sign new defenders
  7. You strongly disagree Lenihan and Mulgrew are OK? I don't. It's just we need to have considerably better than OK to have any hope of getting to the top 10 or higher. I'm glad you agree with the rest
  8. From Sky sports news below. The whole paragraph is mad. The random clubs linked, the crazy fee quoted. They are really going out side the box on the 3 club rule. "Mmm, people are getting wise to that, I know!! 4 club rule and they all have to be from different countries. Boom! Who's off to the pub?" "Mike, it's 9.30am." Sunderland goalkeeper Jon McLaughlin is being pursued by four clubs, according to Sky sources. The 31-year-old, who has a year left to run on his contract at the Stadium of Light, has been the subject of approaches from Millwall, Trabzonspor in Turkey, Qarabag in Azerbaijan and Ludogorets in Bulgaria. Sunderland are understood to want £5m for the goalkeeper, who has been capped once by Scotland.
  9. Lenihan and Mulgrew together could be ok, they have played together a fair bit now and that should stand to them. The main problem is between Lenihan, Mulgrew and Williams you have 3 players who you can pretty much guarantee will miss a fair few games through injury. Happens every season. Some center halves rarely get injured and play every game. Of course you can never predict when someone might get injured, but it's safe to predict the lads will. Therefore it is even more important we have reinforcements. If it was just that we can't defend well enough with these players, it would be one thing, but the scary part is if we don't get a few in, we could have a ludicrous looking defence lining up in a game, something like this Bennett Nyambe Mulgrew Bell Bennett Magloire Williams Bell Imagine then Bell got injured Bennett Nyambe Mulgrew Williams If everyone is fit it is worrying enough, the inevitable injuries could leave us in a crazy spot. Again. So basically, I don't even care if Mowbray wants to trust who is here, I disagree but what can you do. The thing is we have been stung with injuries in those positions the past 2 seasons, got away with it in League 1 due to Downing slotting in and weaker opposition, didn't get away with it last season. It is inexcusable not to sign defensive reinforcements due to the fact that our current center halves have past form with injuries, even leaving the question marks over some of their ability aside.
  10. Has a search party been sent for this guy yet? Def more going on here than we know about. No signing of a new contract. No new club. No pre-season. Bizarre.
  11. Appalling and more importantly/worryingly, injury prone. Remember all the 3-2 games under Coyle?could be 5-4s this season. We will be good value for the neutral anyway.
  12. It is 100% going to happen. He is going to be captain too. I like Mulgrew, he has pedigree, experience, has played at the top level, but he needs to drastically improve on last season, if that is even possible. Personally think the easiest thing would have been to sell him, because once he is here and captain I think Mowbray is going to stick with him. Possibly to a point of massive fan frustration. We basically need to hope Mulgrews professional pride means he turns up as a much better version of last year.
  13. I reckon Rothwell for Armstrong come the Charlton game, but after playing 90 the last day, I think Rothwell probably won't start this one as Armstrong Needs the minutes.
  14. If he doesn't somewhat sort the defence by either better coaching, tactics or manpower, I don't think anyone could defend him. Obviously it can never be perfect, but there is huge room for improvement. The frustrating thing , which has been touched on a few times, is we have such a wealth of attacking options that it would be criminal ruin it with a porous defence. We are a top centre half away from having as good a team as we have had since being relegated in my opinion.
  15. Now that's a whole new negative slant that takes some going to get to! ? Criticizing his potential/hypothetical transfer dealings after winning promotion to the Premier league. That's a good one.
  16. Don't do Facebook, but ya, Instagram is nearly the total opposite of here it is so positive. I genuinely read a comment under the Whalton signing which said said the following and I paraphrase "This is exactly the type of signing that gets you promotion". It wasn't a fake account or a Wigan fan taking the piss. Whoa there buddy, cool your jets ? Decent enough signing, but a bit of perspective please.
  17. You are probably right. I think it could also be a bit along the lines that he is incredibly particular about players "attitude and personality" and that's why he appears so slow to move on guys that we would have been happy with and who have completed transfers this summer, Jannsen for example. Ya, those comments he made where he said "defenders are coming" were unequivocal and it appears, up to now at least, that there has been a cooling on that. He was clearly angry that day and maybe he just softened when the dust settled. Incorrectly in my opinion and at the end of the day, he did indeed make the statement so if we don't do that, he has gone back on his word.
  18. Mowbray clearly states promotion is the aim Posters repeatedly state that he doesn't want to sign players because it would put pressure on him to deliver Mowbray signs player for around £15 million (so far) over 2 summer windows Posters repeatedly state that he doesn't want to sign players because it would put pressure on him to deliver It doesn't add up lads
  19. He also said it will definitely happen. I don't see what rovers could be dithering about with regards this loan to be honest
  20. Sharpe just tweeted that the young fella from City whose name I will not attempt to spell yet is DEFINITELY joining. Said he was in talks with City about a contract extension and that he thinks that is the reason for the delay.
  21. He's neither fat nor unfit. A poster misinterpreted Mowbarys comments yesterday and now low and behold we have a new narrative on here, Johnson is fat. Comical. Here are the quotes again He needed a game. He’s a lad who has some physicality about him, some size but plenty of quality in his left foot,” Mowbray said of the former Leeds United and Norwich City man. “He needs to play, be fit, and get him as many minutes as possible.
  22. We have a new keeper, with hopefully 2 more defenders to come. Most of the damage done last season was when Lenihan was out injured. So I really hope he stays fit this season and ideally gets a new partner , or even Williams back and in beside him. I hope Mulgrew ups his game, if he doesn't then I am sure he will be dropped again, as he was last season. It's just a pity that Mowbray will probably have to learn the hard way.
