You make a good point about Lenihan. The fact he has come through the academy, is relelativley young and therfore will have a sell on value at some point, is he undroppable? Factoring in that he has huge potential to improve as centre halves peak around 28. Should we stick with him? Then with Mulgrew you have his incredible dead ball deliveries. Plus he is a good defender, club captain and vastly experienced. I just think he lacks pace and that can punsih you ruthlessly at this level. Can ye imagine him on the bench? I think we all agree Lenihan looked better beside Rodwell. He has to let Mulgrew lead when he plays, but he seems to enjoy leading himself. The more I think about it, the more I keep thinking the solution could be 3 at the back. I just don't see Lenihan and Mulgrew leaving or being dropped. With the 2 of them and Rodwell, 3 at the back could work, in theory. We need an experienced and physical center half to be added to the mix anyway regardless.

I don't know lads, what setting up is there in a straight back 4? You have two international centre halves, one is our club captain and extremely experienced. Should they now be able to organise the defence themselves? We have seen individual error after individual error this season, again, what can the manager do? In my opinion if those there aren't able to play in a straight back 4 and cut out the individual errors, then they need to be replaced. That's the managers job. I don't buy this stuff about them not being coached to defend. If you have a colleague who is crap at doing their job, is it your managers fault? Where is the personal responsibility here. OK, let's use Liverpool as an example. They have defensive issues last season, so the manager signed van Djik. Have they completely changed their style and tactics? I don't think so. It's a personnel change. What I see from the posts here is that people are saying we need to do something at centre half, but people disagree on whether Mulgrew or Lenihan make way. It's not an easy fix.

He was interviewed on Soccer am a while back, but I only watched the clip on youtube yesterday. They asked him what he has for breakfast on match day and he said a full English. He actually said that. Between that and the mayo, I really wonder what is happening with our players diet wise. I studied nutrition in college and I actually couldn't believe what I was hearing.

I don't think being a force is really worth a damn unless they go up and quickly. Tricky if you get stuck in a rut there. Any of their players who decided to stick with them for "a go" at League 1 will leave, your Cattermloes etc, basically the equivalent of us not going up and losing your Mulgrews, Lenihans, Evans and Grahams. Then you have their players who performed well who will be picked up by Championship clubs, like what would have happened us with Dack. Credit to Mowbray for getting us out of there. -
Easier to do when you have one of the biggest budgets in English football!

They have, over time. -
I think managers these days should be given more time. So I would agree with you. The caveat being that we need to improve defensively next season. If the glaring issues continue, that would be a big red flag for me.
-
Ok, so the defence needs work , I think we can all agree on that. Below is what we have, if I left anyone out, please let me know, others on here would know more about the under 23s than I. GK- Raya Leutwiler Raya will start next season, I don't think there is any doubt about that. So, I think we need a more experienced back up. When Raya bust his face open, I personally feel he was rushed back. That must be because Mowbray doesn't trust Leutwiler. We need competition. I do like Raya a lot. He could be a top championship keeper. He is a bit small though. RB-Nyambe I am not even including Bennett here and I think there may be a few good lads in the under 23s. I have no issue with Nyambe starting. Although it seems he may have fallen out of favour a bit. If we received an offer of circa £3-5 million, would you be tempted to cash in? Personally I wouldn't sell him. Again though, we need competition here. LB- Bell, Williams Willaims can go. There are many issues with him, but I have never seen a player misplace as many passes as Williams does. One game against Portsmouth last season sticks in my mind, I think her got the assist 2nd half, but first half he must have given it away 7 times. We need serious competition for Bell. He looks good on the ball at times, he just really ,really worries me under the high ball. CB-Mulgrew, Lenihan, Rodwell, Wharton, Magloire, Platt So this is where things get very interesting. Realistically one of Mulgrew and Lenihan need to go, would everyone agree on that? So, which one? Would people be tempted by a £5 million bid for Lenihan? Can what we have be coached to be better? I can't see Lenihan , Mulgrew or even Rodwell being happy sitting on the bench for the majority of the time, but something has got to give. Discuss

He looks like someone who would be brilliant in 5 a side He definitely has talent, it's just the price tag and glaring issues elsewhere in the team that is heaping the pressure on. Ah ,he will fluke one in and build on that. He just needs games!!!

It just shows how far the last few seasons have detached them from the top clubs in Europe. Great to see -

Sunderland have a right fight on their hands to go up. Looks a far more competitive division this year than last. Luton look like they will be difficult to catch, Barnsley are experienced at this level and that might stand to them. Then you have battle hardened veterans of the division in Portsmouth and Charlton knocking around. Squeaky bum time for Sunderland fans. You do not want to get stuck there for another season. Also, jesus I would hate to be a Peterborough fan, not just because their chairman is a moron, but because they are bloody constantly in 7th -

The aim this season was consolidation, so he achieved the goal. There are worrying things that we can all see, but he deserves next season where there will be genuine expectations on challenging for promotion.

I couldn't believe it when I found out the PS4 wasn't backwards compatible. Nintendo are the worst, they want you to buy everything again and again. I don't like that, although having said that I did buy Starfox 64 and Majoras mask on the Wii U -
England looked very good against France, very good indeed. I just wonder how bad France are though. It's always difficult to tell with them. I would be happy if we eventually got to a semi final to be honest. England could be there or thereabouts no doubt about it. Imagine an England V Ireland final

I wonder was he instructed not to?

Kean, somehow still getting jobs in football
Bigdoggsteel replied to rhodie's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Fair play to Derry city. It makes me happy that a League of Ireland club wouldn't even give him a job. The league barring maybe 2 teams in Dundalk and Cork city, is below League 2 standard. Comical that he couldn't even get an interview. Oooh your pride Stevie boy -
As in tight? Not if you have the body for it man ??
-
Who do you drop from Lenihan and Mulgrew? I think pretty much everyone agrees Williams needs to go. Bell can be back up, so a new left back is needed. Nyambe, I'm on the fence. We need someone at least as good as him, preferably better. No more Bennett there. Hopefully Raya learnt a lot this season. I wouldn't be against proper competition for him though. The defence needs major surgery no doubt about it.
-
Ah look there is no doubt McLaren was a serious coach. Mowbray is loyal with the backroom staff as he is with players. Maybe Johnson could be brought in around the first team. There is a video on YouTube of a wolves training session. It's top quality. I do wonder about Lowe as his cv is less than impressive. In fact I can't find anything out about him.
-
Why irony? Sorry, I don't get ya. We will see re departures. I personally don't think Dack has done enough this season to get a move to the premier league. Maybe one of the relegated sides or a West Brom or Stoke might move if they don't go up. I'm probably 70 that he will be here next season,30 that he won't be. Ya, well he is loyal to a fault with players. Undoubtedly he needs to be ruthless during the summer. Particularly with defenders. At least one of Mulgrew and Lenihan needs to be dropped. Which one though and how will that go down? Mulgrew is club captain. Should it be him or Lenihan?

In fairness Grabbi was top scorer in Serie B before we signed him. I think comparisons are pointless when it comes to Brereton. I don't think we ever signed a player for so much and played him so little before. It's all very odd. Between that transfer and the lack of spending in January, it does raise questions with me about Mowbrays budget management.
