Eddie, I’m not really disagreeing with your post above. I’m not keen on revisionism –this stuff about the old playing guard (and managers) were never going to take us anywhere. I just think that is harsh. They needed backing. On the new excitement –I get it: you just knew previously we wouldn’t make it, but we also knew that it wasn’t entirely down to the lads on the pitch –shenanigans off the pitch were responsible. I don’t like the idea that the new plan is a footballing masterstroke –it is financially driven. I don’t like the idea that if we don’t get in the top 6/promotion, then it doesn’t matter because you have to give the new plan time or it’s not fair to judge after one season (how long before we judge?) – that would just be as you say same old but on a slimmer budget and workforce and with Pasha more firmly in control. Ultimately, what is it that will rid us of these owners? I don’t think we will get promotion with this new model (there’s a stick to beat me with if it happens). So that means same old but with higher turnover of players (agents lovely jubbly). I know some would take relegation if it got rid of the owners. On the new sense of excitement. I get that too. I will certainly be going to the game with a sense of intrigue and interest. On a match to match basis, we all like to see exciting football, wins, goals etc.

Things could have got better if managers had been backed and then you would have had your sense of hope and entertainment. Those players you mention were taking us to that promotion push, just needed backing. Things did seem to be getting better under JDT (entertaining too) but matters off the pitch put paid to that. Agreed, that it is going to be fun (at least initially) but not so sure that if it doesn't work, we will be in just the same position as previously. Fewer assets to sell off?

I never get the ire directed at him. Flopped here, true but did good elsewhere. It happens a lot - both ways. Ie we get someone who we think is uselesss, they go on somewhere and do well. And vice versa. All about timing, luck, surrounding players and all sorts of other factors. One that sticks in my mind is Franny Jeffers -not necessarily his time here but he looked cracking at Everton and then went to Arsenal? and flopped. Stars wax and wane. And also, your shelf life can be short. A striker can be the dogs for a bit and then there is another one off the rank. edit I guess it was the price tag for Davies and he didn't do much (but not entirely his fault).

It's almost as if the Academy will be surplus to requirements...but for another day and another thread maybe.

Time and results will tell. Look foward to 7th or above. Certainly saved on wages. Matchday will be interesting - so many permutations and changes. Going to be fun.

RG has sold Pahsa the idea that no player should be paid above 10k a week and success (not promotion because he has stated that is not the aim) can still be achieved. Outgoings are broadly similar to income (will be if a new striker comes in) but plenty has been saved on wages, Raya money, backroom staff, SWAG etc). Agents presumably still being paid.

Well we have got close recently with various models and with a little more backing could have made it (but then it would seem there is a gateaway to the Rao's that doesn't even ask for said backing). Looks like we are now all lined up (!) to try the method you say above. History does not make me confident. edit But if it brings playoffs/promotion and new owners, bring it on.
