  1. Interesting splits in the poll. I suspected it would be tight between Travis and Armstrong, who are the unanimous standouts. 10 of Armstrong's 15 goals have come since Dack's injury on 23rd December 2019. (9 league, 1 cup). Trivia piece, Adam Armstrong, may well have scored the last ever goal at Gigg Lane, when Rovers played Bury FC in our 3-0 win at Gigg Lane on 24th July 2019.
  2. Really close between a few for me: Downing - Very solid signing, gets an honorable mention, but mainly between Adam Armstrong and Lewis Travis. Armstrong's goals have been crucial, particularly in the second half of the season, since Dack has been injured, but decided to give it to Travis. I feel as though he has the potential to play in the Premier League, his work is so crucial to us and you really feel his absence when he's not in the middle of the park! 3 assist and 2 goals also!
  3. Simple Question Who is the BRFCS 2019/20 Player of the Season? Limited the main candidates to those who have made 20+ starts in the league this season. Players are in Squad Number Order Please specify if you have any other suggestions. Vote away!
  4. Delighted for Ainsworth and Wycombe. I've met him a couple of times also and he was a genuinely nice guy, hope he continues to do well and maybe one day become Rovers manager. Also nice to see Coventry and Oxford or Wycombe joining the Championship next season, nice to see new teams down at Ewood at this level, although we do have the ultimate yo-yo club in Rotherham joining them! Fleetwood would have been a handy away fixture, but its always satisfying to see Joey Barton fail.
  5. On the subject of new shirts, the Umbro teams have started to release/leak their kits for the 2020/2021. Our last year of the current Umbro deal, if I remember correctly. Heard some rumours to a new supplier, which I'll keep to myself as it may be complete tosh, but if true would be a real crowd pleaser. As for this year, Umbro and 10Bet confirmed, hopefully a more royal blue, after two seasons of lighter shades. Keeper kit design already confirmed with Bournemouth, just assume we'll have the same or different colours. https://www.footyheadlines.com/2020/07/derby-county-20-21-home-kit.html for possible clues.
  6. By the end of this season, Tony Mowbray will have managed Rovers for 170 games. 115 as a Championship club and 55 as a League One side. Including cup competitions. His stand alone Championship record will stand at around 35% win rate or 1.3 points per game, which is just a shade better than Paul Lambert's 1.27 points per game. I, along with many others I'm sure, felt the Lambert era was generally underwhelming, which is unfortunately what the Mowbray (Championship) era is becoming. Now we are on target for our best points haul and finish since 2014/15 where we finished 9th with 67 points. (14/15 was the light blue kit year, the Liverpool FA Cup QF, Gestede and Rhodes both scoring 20+ goals) so its perhaps not as gloomy or as bad as it has been in recent years, but the disappointment is palpable. 2020/21 will be the season that either maintains or ends the Mowbray era. I've always thought highly of TM as a person, his stories and passion for football, the town and the history of the club are there for all to see. I believe in his integrity and his genuine honest character (compared to a lot of managers) and would love to see him do well, there is however, a strong sense of apathy setting in, amongst the fanbase and the players, this is what concerns me the most. The Premier League still feels a long way off, perhaps it always will.
  7. Joe Rothwell..... A player who I’ve loved to hate pretty much for the last two seasons. Good grief, he’s been an passenger for these last two games, yet seems to avoid any criticisms. He looks a million dollars, yet rarely produces anything of note! Other names already mentioned also deserve their poor performances being highlighted, but I hope others have finally seen the light, not good enough!
  8. Can't help but feel as though giving some of the younger lads some 1st team action without the added pressure of a crowd, could be a nice way of ''dipping their toe'' into senior football. Obviously, I want us to make a run at the playoffs, but if we fail, I'd love to see the last home game (vs. Reading) lineup look like this: Fisher Nyambe - Lenihan - Carter - Thompson Davenport - Travis - Buckley Rankin Costello - Brereton - Chapman With a new season likely to start again in August, the increase to 5 subs and the spike in muscle injuries in the Bundesliga, I'd expect as soon as we're out of contention for a playoff spot, the lineups will get a little experimental!
  9. The one and only time I went to Ewood with my grandad (wasn't into football, preferred his motorbikes) and it was a memorable day! Hughes' strike and it absolutely tipping it down all afternoon are my two memories. Also got a wave from Marc Overmars before the match!
  10. I think the point he was trying to make to 8 year old me was, take this in! Similarly, I'm sure most realistic Rovers fans knew that the time at the top wouldn't last and to savour the moment. We won the footballing lottery. Perhaps we didn't invest as well as we could, but for one brief moment, we were the best team in the country!
  11. 8 year old me was over at my grandparents house (because they had Sky) watching the game with them and my auntie, my uncle was on a stag do if memory serves. Obviously excited and delighted with the victory. I'd been following Rovers (with clarity) since I was 5, first game being the Playoff Final at Wembley, followed by my first season ticket for the 1993/94 season, aged 6/7, so understandably, the overall magnitude of the day and achievement was lost on me somewhat. We'd finished 4th, 2nd and now 1st in my three seasons supporting the team!! But I remember the day after more clearly, going to Sacred Heart Primary School in my Rovers shirt and then down to Ewood at night for the big celebration, my lasting memory being stood on my seat (which I still sit in) and my dad said to me..... ''Take this in Roger, this will never happen again....'' I've heard, seen and read so much about that 1994/95 season in recent weeks and months, and I'm delighted to see we're getting the coverage we deserve. Time only makes me more and more proud of the achievement.
  12. Just tried to add some meat to the bones if you will. Flowers obviously a top keeper also, just opinions. Kenna almost made the cut. Others Kevin Gallacher - particularly the 1997/98 season where Sutton grabbed most of the headlines and two penalties, to share the Golden boot on 18, yet Gallacher scored 16 in the league and 20 in total vs. Sutton’s 18 in the league and 21 in total. Damien Johnson - forged a good career despite never really nailing down a place at Ewood Craig Short - Model professional, very good for us in the promotion season and transitioned back to the Premier League with ease, despite being the wrong side of 30.
  13. Filan- Probably the second best keeper in my 25 years of following the Rovers, would have him in goal over Flowers and definitely over Robinson. Ooijer - Never really appreciated as a fullback, although he was a model pro and put in some solid performances after a particularly rocky start to his Rovers career. You don’t play that many times for the Netherlands if you’re not a good player. Henchoz - Reputation tarnished by the 1998/1999 relegation, but don’t think it was entirely his fault, showed his class and ability at Liverpool and in his brief return under Hughes. Khizanishvili - Forgotten about during the Samba/Nelsen years, but would have been a regular in other seasons, so composed on the ball, don’t remember him making many mistakes. Bjornebye - Hardly a big list to choose from, Le Saul clearly the best we’ve had, probably followed closely by Warnock, but Bjornebye was also very good, would be a huge asset in the current team. Gillespie - Hard to choose an under rated right midfielder as the obvious choices all seem to have gotten the credit they deserve, but Gillespies old school “chalk on your boots” wing play was great. Flitcroft - Perennially under rated, not just for his ability, but for his leadership. Never hear his name mentioned in anyone’s best XI and maybe rightly, but was a great servant of the club, won promotion and lifted the League Cup as a Rover, plus a winner against Man Utd too! Carsley - Not remembered with a great deal of fondness as he forced his way out of the club somewhat, but scored 11 goals (mostly penalties) during his Player of the Year season in 1999/2000. Had he stayed for the 2000/01 season I think his legacy would be a lot different. Wilcox - His “Bolser Boy (sp?)” nickname is from just before I started watching Rovers, aged 5, but I do remember him being widely disliked. Unusual for a homegrown player who went on to win a Premier League medal and represent his country. His legacy has improved as time has gone on, but he remains a bone of contention with a certain era of Rovers fans. Dickov - Top scorer in 2004/05 a real terrier up top, granted, not the most gifted striker we’ve ever had, but scored goals at the top level for both club and country. Stead - It’s hard to pick strikers, as they either score or they don’t! But decided on Stead, not because he was actually a world beater or actually Premier League quality, but for his story! Plucked from Division 3 obscurity for little money and his run of goals saved us from the drop and in a roundabout way, facilitated the Hughes era and the good times that followed. I know this isn’t lost on anyone who was old enough at the time, but Stead scored 6 goals for Rovers in 2003/04 Middlesbrough (a) 1-0 - Stead Newcastle (h) 1-1 - Stead Aston Villa (a) 2-0 - Flitcroft, Stead Fulham (a) 4-3 - Cole, Douglas, Amoruso, Stead Everton (a) 1-0 - Stead Manchester Utd (h) 1-0 - Stead An uninspiring overall record for him, and talent wise not fit enough to lace the boots of McCarthy, Santa Cruz, Bellamy etc... but in terms of impact, in the last 20 years, it’s hard to think of many above him.
  14. Trying to remember all the ‘long serving’ captains during my time supporting the team, since I was 4 in 1992. Kevin Moran Tim Sherwood Garry Flitcroft Ryan Nelsen Paul Robinson Grant Hanley Jason Lowe Charlie Mulgrew Elliott Bennett sure I’m missing some, but these are the obvious ones in the last 30 years.
  15. Never rated Shay Given either, especially not ahead of Brad!
  16. I'm always surprised this has never surfaced. I do have a recollection of seeing him in the CIS, grandad collared shirt, but finding a copy is almost a Rovers holy grail!
  17. Played as recently for Rovers as 14th August 2018 Carlisle 1-5 Blackburn Rovers https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/45092540 14 starts, 7 sub appearances in all competitions Awful news, RIP.
  18. Really? Completely gut the whole hierarchy of the club? Bold strategy.
  19. Injuries and suspensions so key at this stage of the season, particularly with the busy Easter period still to come. Lenihan, Williams, Dack, Holtby, Evans all out? Let's not underestimate that's pretty much half of our strongest XI out at one time! 3 wins from Bristol City, Wigan (a) and Barnsley (a) is now the bare minimum.
  20. I think Joe Rothwell looks a million dollars, but no league goals and only a handful of assists is a poor return from a creative midfielder type, particularly compared to others who play similar roles. I thought today was one of those where a host of players didn’t hit their potential, Adarabioyo had his worst game in a Rovers shirt (at least from what I’ve seen), Travis looked a little jaded, Bell returned to his usual timid self, Armstrong isolated, Samuel likewise. That said, to be under par and still pick up a point and keep in touch with the rest of the chasing pack, shouldn’t be underestimated.
  21. I think the players know how important the game is, glad we have a full week to prepare, rather than the usual mid-week then Saturday turnaround. Win would be huge, but I'd take a point now. I've given up any playoff talk a couple of times this season already, but, as they say ''Its the hope that kills you.''
  22. When does the 10 card rule reset? Research only shows the Premier League (after 2nd Sunday in April) With more games in the Championship and only 4 after the second Sunday, I'd guess it may be mid March?
  23. When Buckley scores, Tosin does too! Both scored vs Sheffield Wednesday at home
  24. £5 a ticket is a great initiative, hope to see more of it in the future. Whilst not quite win or bust, 3 points and other results could put us right back in the mix. I'm always comparing us to PNE at the moment, they went to the Valley and won back in November and are (as it stands) the only side, currently above us, who have won at the venue all season. Charlton 2-2 West Brom (1st) Charlton 1-0 Leeds (2nd) Charlton 0-0 Fulham (3rd) Charlton 1-0 Brentford (4th) Charlton 1-1 Nottingham Forest (5th) Charlton 0-1 Preston (6th) Charlton 3-2 Bristol City (7th) Charlton 2-2 Cardiff City (8th)
