  1. I noticed that - in truth the penalty should have been retaken.
  2. It is an interesting subject - what makes an effective PL player doesn't necessarily equate to an effective Championship player and vice versa. I think what is telling is the lack of bids from the PL for any of our players. I think Dyche shows what can be done with average players - but even their players are now a cut above ours in most (if not all) positions. Rothwell would have a chance (not many midfield players can travel with the ball like he can). Diaz would be interesting - especially as his Chile exploits continue. Nyambe would be worth a shot - I could see him playing for a team like Burnley. Wharton and Buckley (poor mans Foden) may develop into lower PL players. Kaminski - possibly, but more likely as good back up. Dolan - may develop into a PL player, but needs to improve to get to that level. It is a struggle without blue and white glasses to make a case for many.
  3. What is interesting - for a game many said we would lose - there appears a lot of doom and gloom - considering we dominated a team that had won 5 on the trot. For a long time people have moaned at TM not focusing enough on defence (rightly so). During our winning run we had a certain amount of rub of the green - at the moment it just isn't going our way. Keeping the defence tight will mean we always have a chance - despite our inability to take our chances. BTW - gotta give some credit to the 11 man defence that Millwall implemented, a lot of teams would have struggled to break them down.
  4. Interesting reading on here. IMO yesterday showed how far behind the Premiership we are - let's not kid ourselves Fulham have Premiership quality throughout their team, they have made good use of their parachute payments - they look a level above all teams in the Championship. For me Mitrovic should have been booked for several off the ball challenges. He may be a good striker at this level - but played like a school yard bully - and the referee let him get away with it. Taking what few positives there were - some lovely pieces of skill from Dolan (who otherwise was largely anonymous), defence did ok (aside from the goals), Gallagher made a difference when he came on, we didn't concede 7. Yesterday was always going to be tough - and we have another tough match on Tuesday which will be more of a barometer of our chances of top 6 than yesterday was.
  5. Let's not forget TM wanted Park. Also TM must actually have some say as to whether we buy a player or not.
  6. I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the bench at the weekend - if only to lift the players.
  7. Our only hope - the other record he broke was prior to our winning streak. I had a nasty feeling when the referee bottled giving a second yellow to Berge. Definitely not deserved - but we aren't getting the rub of the green at the moment
  8. I think this has been the big difference - score first or equalise quickly makes a big difference to those matches. We haven't got the quality to unpick parked defences - but are adept at hitting on the break.
  9. That last sentence could be applied to Brereton prior to last season. Personally I am shocked at how poor his first touch is for an ex-Premier League player - however he does have a hard shot when given space, and is big enough to create a nuisance for Khadra etc to pick up the second ball. I remember seeing him score as a youth team player when he was the next big thing - doesn't seem to have progressed since then,
  10. I would like to see a slight change in playing style - with Khadra left, Buckley (or Dolan) right and Gallagher through the middle. Though not a huge fan of Gallagher - if played as an out and out striker - rather than spending his time tracking back all the time - I think he might be able to fill the gap (goals wise).
  11. What is the recovery for Diaz injury - is it something he can have physio for - or is it just rest ? If the latter, then unless he is going for a couple of months not really a good indication ? Not saying you are wrong about his injury - but it could just be the club giving him a well earned rest after his exploits for club and country.
  12. I disagree - I think tonight's results show that (outside Fulham) anyone can beat anyone - so our recent poor run has to be viewed in that context. Personally I have no idea where we will end up - there are so many permutations, from suspensions and injuries (both ours and the opposition),the order of fixtures, poor standard of refereeing in the division etc. etc. I wouldn't be surprised to see us in the top 2 (though a lot of things would need to go our way) or as you say outside the top 6.
  13. Everybody qouting Kevin Davies saying he would play Diaz and Gallagher as a front two - need to add the bit where he said just his opinion and that false 9 position had been part of the winning run we went on.
  14. Agree - they could have balanced the books selling Diaz, Rothwell, Nyambe and Lenihan - £30m+ (Diaz being the biggest chunk) - with the contract position as the excuse. Keeping the squad together has cost the club a fortune in lost fees - lets hope it pays off.
  15. Only good thing really - was a further 75 minutes towards full fitness and match sharpness (hopefully only as a sub). Though TM has done it to other players - why kick a player when he is down ?
  16. I am not a fan of how TM has handled Rothwell - obviously I don't know Rothwell as a person, but feel we could have got more out of him sooner if handled better. But it is just an opinion, I'll leave it at that 😉
  17. The second one was the worst - as he didn't need to be ahead of the defender to score. Possibly a sign that he is getting a little anxious - though I thought his general play last night was good.
  18. I thought Rothwell had a superb game - he looked more like the complete centre midfield player than he has done at any time at the club. Begrudgingly you have to give some credit to TM who has often called out his lack of defensive nous to play centre mid. Perhaps he wasn't as effective driving forward as he can be - but offered good balance and workrate.
  19. Rev - I am sure you must remember a side top of the old division 2 - rumours were bookies had stopped taking bets on them for promotion. Even with an experienced league winning manager, and huge transfer budget they only just limped into the top 6 on the final day. These things happen - we were never going to carry on winning match after match - even if TM had made better choices in the transfer window.
  20. What formation did we play on our long unbeaten run ?
  21. I think it is the opposition scoring first - and then sitting back - rather us changing our approach.
  22. Though I agree with you - many on here are saying we have been found out - so (if that is the case) you have to change tactics.
  23. Goals change matches - it would have been a different match if Buckley had scored. Our success so far this season has been built on scoring first - and then hitting on the break. Forest appear to be set up very similar to ourselves - to hit teams on the break - how they would have done if we had scored first - difficult to say.
