  1. Interesting how things work out - imagine we had a more consistent season (i.e. not feast and famine) - TM would be able to go to the owners and say - look we are 13 (possibly 16 if we beat Brum) points better than last season and we only just missed out on the play-offs. Then spout usual guff about being on a journey - then out comes a new 3 year contract. At least our flirtation with automatic promotion followed by the death spiral may at least bring an end to TM's tenure. I am grateful for a lot of things he has done at Rovers - but the last couple of seasons reminded me of the final days of Souness (strange tactically decisions, blaming everyone but themselves, players out of favour being dropped - but dragged out far longer than it should have been. Even the most ardent fan has to admit that TM isn't tactically that great - every now and then he gets it spot on - but you can't help but feel it is more luck than judgement or intense planning on the training field.
  2. When I initially read the interview he had my sympathy - then I thought a little deeper - we have an important match today and he made the press conference about himself rather than the team - with a thinly veiled attack at the owners . Not defending how they have handled this - but the time for recriminations was after our final chance had gone. Unfortunately it seems to be a pattern where he will seemingly throw players, owners and fans under the bus to justify his position.
  3. I don't think last nights result changes too much (obviously would have been better if they lost)- we always probably needed to win both matches, because of the other chasing teams. Depending on today's results - the Championship could have its best final day for years. With potentially second spot to fight for and two play off positions.
  4. I would argue he hasn't been a bad manager. He has got some things right, some wrong - though I feel we have blown a huge opportunity this season, I think most would have take a chance of top 6 with two games to go at the start of the season.
  5. As much as it will extend the forlorn hope of a top 6 finish - we have to beat PNE if only for local pride.
  6. I would agree with this - TM should have gone at the end of last season - but I think the owners are looking at compensation payments, and wouldn't risk having to give TM compensation just to give Johnson three matches in charge, I honestly believe that TM number has been up for a while - and he will be replaced at the end of the season. I am not holding my breath - but the owners should be planning TM's replacement now - so he can be in place as soon as the season finishes.
  7. The way things are going - should his topic not be "Mowbrays reign as a HOLE" -
  8. You said he was signing a new contract not so long ago ?
  9. I totally agree - but who would have thought that Brereton becoming Brereton-Diaz would transform a player who was struggling to get in the team to the first name on our team sheet and a Chilean international ? What were the odds on him getting 20 goals this season ? Miracles happen - and I wouldn't be surprised for his fairy tale season to continue. Flip side of course, we are Rovers, so he will probably come back too early for Chile and pick up another injury.
  10. We will get something better - the Diaz bounce. I don't know why - but I think he will come back and continue his rise from £7m flop to superstar striker - and in process provide the goals to get us in the play offs.
  11. Whatever team we play - he has to play Gallagher as a centre forward - who is told to stay up front and stretch their defence. We know he has his limitations - but Tuesday showed that with the right service he is very difficult to stop. Or maybe after watching Bradley Johnson as a false nine - it was a case that anyone would look good.
  12. I do wonder if Derby defence is slow - however I think that Rothwell is at his best when running from deep - but we will see.
  13. I think most of those players will demand higher wages than the players they are replacing. I hope you are right about Lenihan - I think it will all depend on whether somebody from the lower Premiership comes in for him or not. I would like to think he wouldn't move to another Championship club - but money talks,
  14. Its an interesting one - he has to replace 3 first team players with similar quality, bring in loan players of similar quality (or better) and sell Brereton to fund it all - while also replacing him as well. It is a shame - but for our out of contract players - we would have been in a good position going into next season - without them it will be a challenge.
  15. I have a nagging optimism that the Diaz fairy tale will continue with him returning from injury and firing us to the promised land. Of course it is probably rubbish - but two years ago who would have said he would be our top scorer and a Chilean International. Also, though Dack didn't do a great deal, in two bits of play he showed how he can make a difference. Firstly the back heal to Rothwell that nearly came off, secondly his scuffed shot which showed that even when not fully fit he can still find space in the box like none of our other players can.
  16. It is an interesting subject - what makes an effective PL player doesn't necessarily equate to an effective Championship player and vice versa. I think what is telling is the lack of bids from the PL for any of our players. I think Dyche shows what can be done with average players - but even their players are now a cut above ours in most (if not all) positions. Rothwell would have a chance (not many midfield players can travel with the ball like he can). Diaz would be interesting - especially as his Chile exploits continue. Nyambe would be worth a shot - I could see him playing for a team like Burnley. Wharton and Buckley (poor mans Foden) may develop into lower PL players. Kaminski - possibly, but more likely as good back up. Dolan - may develop into a PL player, but needs to improve to get to that level. It is a struggle without blue and white glasses to make a case for many.
  17. What is interesting - for a game many said we would lose - there appears a lot of doom and gloom - considering we dominated a team that had won 5 on the trot. For a long time people have moaned at TM not focusing enough on defence (rightly so). During our winning run we had a certain amount of rub of the green - at the moment it just isn't going our way. Keeping the defence tight will mean we always have a chance - despite our inability to take our chances. BTW - gotta give some credit to the 11 man defence that Millwall implemented, a lot of teams would have struggled to break them down.
  18. Interesting reading on here. IMO yesterday showed how far behind the Premiership we are - let's not kid ourselves Fulham have Premiership quality throughout their team, they have made good use of their parachute payments - they look a level above all teams in the Championship. For me Mitrovic should have been booked for several off the ball challenges. He may be a good striker at this level - but played like a school yard bully - and the referee let him get away with it. Taking what few positives there were - some lovely pieces of skill from Dolan (who otherwise was largely anonymous), defence did ok (aside from the goals), Gallagher made a difference when he came on, we didn't concede 7. Yesterday was always going to be tough - and we have another tough match on Tuesday which will be more of a barometer of our chances of top 6 than yesterday was.
  19. Let's not forget TM wanted Park. Also TM must actually have some say as to whether we buy a player or not.
  20. I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the bench at the weekend - if only to lift the players.
  21. Our only hope - the other record he broke was prior to our winning streak. I had a nasty feeling when the referee bottled giving a second yellow to Berge. Definitely not deserved - but we aren't getting the rub of the green at the moment
