  1. I think we will start 4-1-4-1, if we do I can see us getting a draw. Indeed history would seem to indicate this - as we seem to replicate home and away results each season.
  2. Can't understand all this bragging about a teams hooligan element. I take great pride from the fact that Rovers are a family club, whose supporters have an excellent reputation when travelling away from home. It is a shame that Burnley fans feel they have to brag about their hooligan element to make up for the fact that they can't beat us For all the arguments about best support club :- Burnely Attendance - 21,468 of which 4k were Rovers = 17,468 Burnley fans Rovers Attendance - 28,691 of which 7k were Burnely = 21,691 Rovers Nuff said
  3. Considering we played the first half against twelve men - I am sure that the ref was wearing Carrot - with some very strange decisions. And the linesman running the Riverside line - he was shocking. But - we won, so when that final whistle went - nothing else really mattered. To all those Burnley fans - you are a well organised team, who can defend very well - but just look at the number of chances you had in 180 minutes of football. We played well below our potential in both matches - you played well above - but we still had more than enough to restrict you to about two chances, while last night creating enough chances to have won far more easily than we did (even only playing at 1/2 capacity) The funny thing is that Burnley are a lower league version of the way Hughes has us currently set up - which is probably why both matches were so poor. The big difference is that Hughes will spend the summer bringing back some of the creativity that Souness stripped from the team. While you buy a second rate striker who has had more clubs than hot dinners.
  4. Whichever way you look at it, this game won't be a sell out as seats are being kept back to keep the Burnley thugs at bay. Also, I would be surprised to see the family stand sold out on a Tuesday night during term time - just a thought.
  5. Waggy - don't understand your logic. I am sure that the 1,000 (or whatever they are) seats are being used as a barrier between boths fans, and the pitch. I am sure that we will see the first few rows of the Darwen End Lower empty - to provide a barrier between thugs and the pitch - or would you prefer Robbie to actually be assaulted this time ? The club will never stop Burnely fans getting into home areas - I am sure that there are some Burnley fans that have frequented Ewood to watch the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal etc - and thus will have a history on our database. A bit worrying that there are still seats in the BBE Lower - coupled with my tickets in the upper (booked this morning) being row 9 - maybe the sales aren't as strong as previous estimates
  6. Those 1,000 tickets will without doubt create a cordon of empty seats to aid crowd control. The club really can't win with this one. Personally - I would like to see any Burnley fans in the home areas ejected from the ground as soon as they are identified. There names should be noted - and passed to the police to investigate. We should also ensure that the purchaser of the ticket is black marked on the ticket database. Unfortuanely I fear we will see a repetition of the Celtic match with away fans in home areas just being left. Having said all that - as long as we win, I couldn't give a monkeys
  7. You would spend far more than 4 minutes of b***s*** waiting to get through so chill. For anybody waiting - started my call at 09:10 - at number 51 in the queue - took 55 minutes to get through - so keep the faith. For anybody currently bashing the club about it's ticket office - given our recent gates, who expected the demand to be as big ? I certainly didn't. For the complaints the will follow after the match - e.g. Burnley fans in Rovers areas - I don't think that there is anything that the club can reastically do. There must be hundreds, if not thousands of Burnely fans that will have a history of buying tickets at Rovers - after all it is there only chance of watching live Premiership football.
  8. Lets look on the bright side - in the time that Burnley sold 7k, we sold 13k
  9. Currently 31 in the phone queue - will try later. But I am booking three tickets so make that 4997 tickets that will be unsold
  10. Restricted view - they must be selling tickets for the hill behind the Riverside
  11. According to the official site they have sold the upper tier - which doesn't equate to 50% - more like 40%. However - the rush by Dingles keen to be able to run on a pitch that doesn't give way under foot must be very attractive. I reckon that Dingle that ran on the pitch on Sunday would still be being chased now if he were on the lush green grass of Ewood Selling the first few thousand was always to be expected (indeed Rovers seem to be having a similar rush) - the interesting bit will be if the tickets continue to sell strongly.
  12. clitheroe_claret - I though all of Clitheroe had now seen that the future is blue and white You must feel very lonely these days
  13. truefox - after beating what is, after all, a good Charlton side - and deserving your victory - I am sure that you are confident that you can beat Rovers. However, you need to bear in mind that dabizas has a tendancy to either get sent off or gift goals to the opposition when he plays at Ewood Personally I have no axe to grind with Leicester - and as you say your side does look reasonable on paper. However - I was overjoyed at a POTENTIAL home draw in the quarter final of the FA Cup to a Championship side - no offence
  14. You mean long term planning like free season tickets to under eights, some of the cheapest Junior season tickets in the Premier League, free tickets to schools. I bet you moaned when they introduced schemes like bring a friend for a tenner, or even reduced ticket prices for less attractive fixtures. Truth of the matter is that JW and TF are fighting a battle anyway due to the size of the clubs catchment area, local rivalries with close towns and the gradual effects of over-saturation of the game on TV. Up to date Rovers have been imaginative and daring (in terms of the potential affect on revenue) to attract new fans, especially younger ones.
  15. IF we get to the FA Cup semi or final (though at this point I will be happy to get past Burnley). Why not give present non-season ticket holders the opportunity to reserve (with a non-refundable cash sum of course) season tickets for next season in return for guaranteed availability for Millenium Stadium tickets (after existing season ticket holders of course ) I wouldn't imagine it would vastly increase our season ticket sales - but at least it would be an incentive for any people undecided about season tickets.
  16. I think we will always have to accept that as a small town club, we are very rarely going to have good press. Even when we won the league - and were top goal scorers some of the press tried to say we were boring and one dimensional. The vast majority of the press are Arsenal/Tottenham/United/Chelsea fans themselves - so they are hardly ever going to give a small Lancashire team who upset the "Big Boys club" good press are they. Lets get this straight - Chelsea are set up as a defensive team - they have more 1-0 victories than any other team. Why aren't they boring - because they are a deemed a big club with high profile players. As Mourinho himself pointed out they battled - if they are so superior why didn't they try and out play us rather than battle us ? The whole thing stinks - but it will never change.
  17. Longsider - if the queue got as long as that - why on earth did they only have one girl at the ticket office. Who also happened to be doing the cleaning at the same time
  18. One thing is certain - this is a far bigger match to the dingles that it is us. Rovers are in a no-win situation - if we win then it is because of the money, if we lose - doesn't bear thinking about. I see this as a reasonable route into the sixth round - not easy, but a lower league club away in the fifth round is better than Chelsea or United. If we get to the sixth round, it will be all the sweeter because it is the dingles. My only worry - our recent league record against them is excellent - but our form in Cup competitions against lower league opposition is very poor. Lets hope that the players realise how important this game is to the fans - and give (for once) a showing worthy of national TV
  19. Lets put all this in perspective - three defeats - but on paper we could only expect to get something from the Bolton match. You can point to our lack of goal scoring, but Bolton are a very effective team at protecting a lead, as are Chelsea. We also need to consider how much the Chelsea game took out of the players prior to playing Boro. It is time for MH to start earning his salary - he has the players at his disposal to shake things up a bit. Personally - injuries permitting - I would consider still persisting with 4-5-1. But at home he has to risk Tugay, and also push Emerton and MGP further forward so it is more like a 4-3-3.
  20. Why the downer on Dickov - just because he is a niggly so-and-so, please don't ignore the football talent that he does have. He does unbelievably well to hold the ball up and bring other players into play, his goals record is very respectable considering how few chances we actually create, he makes intelligent runs for others, knows how to defend from the front, suprisingly quick over short distances (though not outstanding pace), runs the channels well. All this for £150k. Too many people equate big transfer fees meaning better players. Grabbi proves that this isn't necessarily the case. All the above could be said of Savage (but in a midfield sense) - as he showed at Brum - he creates chances, he makes things happen. We had Fergie for 17 months - I think Savage has probably contributed more in his first few games than Fergie did in all of his.
  21. If everyone is fit, I would imagine that the team will be as Wednesday - if it is - I am going for Rovers to sneak a 1-0 win. I think that this formation could see us get some unlikely points against the higher placed teams that we have to play against over the next few weeks. Though I still worry about us scoring against teams like Norwich - which ultimately may prove more important than the odd point against Liverpool or United.
  22. I voted yes - if JW and MH had sincerely thought that he would buckle down and play well for Rovers (post window) - then they would have held out for £6m. No matter what they said in the media - I beleive that the deal only went though because they doubted how Ferguson would play.
  23. How can anyone have a go at JW - he did the best he could. As may people have pointed out we have saved at least half a seasons wages - and when he left in the summer (which we all know he would have) - how much we would have got then ? The real villain in all this is Fergie (thus named because he acts like a stuck up woman). I don't blame him for wanting to go home to Glasgow - that is his perocative. But contrast how he and his agent handled it in comparison to Berg when he left for United. Berg knew that United wanted him - he wanted to go - but he kept it all under wraps, let the board know - and allowed us to get a fair price and a replacement in (Henchoz) without involving the press or unduly forcing Rovers hand (a true gentleman). I wouldn't like to say what my opinion of Fergie is - if at the end of the season we are placed in mid-table, and Tommo has established himself in centre-mid - who cares
  24. All this Ferguson thing is absolutely amazing - the number of Rangers fans that think they will win the league now they have signed him. "Bring some imagination to our midfield" - he hasn't shown much imagination in the Premiership ! IF the rumours are true - I wouldn't be too disappointed at a £1.25m loss on Fergie. It could be a lot worse (aka Grabbi).
