I think the 1-year contract instead of atrial is our way of saying 'We're happy to commit to you, but you need to earn it for yourself'. A trial is too non-committal.

We only play one striker anyway. If Brereton signs, that's Graham, Armstrong, and Brereton that can play up front. 3 for one position is plenty, even before one thinks of Samuel and Nuttall.

I suspect the way we play now would have suited Kalinic a lot more. Perhaps a bit more hope for Brereton?

I didn't think much of some Kiwi we signed from the MLS. Made worse his debut being at right back. Turned out to be an unbelievable captain, leading a team already full of leaders and international captains.

I don't think the intention IS to acheive it, I think it's just Mowbray having said too much again. Of course Rodwell counts, he's an incoming transfer regardless of length of contract. The target at the start of the window was 6-7 and it looks like we'll hit that today. The 4-5 remark was, I suspect, subject to availability of players, and rather 'possibly up to 5' rather than setting 'another 4' as his minimum target.

3 since Mowbray made that comment is only one short of 4, not 'well short' I do appreciate your concern somewhat, as I still think a winger would complete our squad (either from the bench or in first team). But I simply cannot be unhappy with a window we expected very little of at the point of promotion, when it turns out we'll have spent around £8.5m on recruitments. Especially when the players we've signed are flexible in terms of position, and in Rothwell we might just have re-Dacked in terms of relative quality to compared to the fee. There's also every chance Davenport and Rothwell could similarly outperform their fees. Armstrong we got as an absolute bargain.

Without wishing to sound as if i don't like Williams (because I think he's solid), hell no. This team spirit is built on earning your way into the team and we can't afford to scupper it. I think Bell has earned the shirt in his absence and therefore Del must earn it back in training, or if Bell loses form. That being said, it'd suit us to keep Williams on the bench anyway as it covers 2 positions.
