A little bit crazy to have a player refusing to sign a new contract as our captain.
-
We don't know how to control games, it's a bit like watching Manchester United under OGS and solely relying on hitting teams on the break. We have become one-dimensional, just like we were last season by wanting to keep possession at all cost not bothering about threatening the opposition's goal. Mowbray has zero adaptability and can't coach a team into defending and attacking well at the same time. This season for me it's obvious how much we need both Khadra and Brereton on the pitch, as they're by far our sharpest two going forward. Sticking with Bucko in the central role of the front three when we didn't look like scoring for a number of games was a big mistake when we still had a cushion to the teams below us on the table. We've had some harsh results but the air has been out of the balloon, we're not going up.

v Blackpool (h) - 9/4/22

He has looked totally lost since coming back from injury. Not dynamic enough to play in the role he's being asked to play. Think Edun is a better option there, but we need both a RWB and LWB for next season if Mowbray stays on and persists with the current system. The player who has let me down the most recently is Rothwell. Thought it was a bonus for us when he stayed past January, but don't see the big loss right now. Travis has had to cover a lot of ground lately, and while he's good at it, he doesn't have the pace to catch players once they ghost past him. Wharton also has made a lot of mistakes and luckily Kaminski has been great between the sticks and van Hecke plays well beyond his years centrally. Even if we make the play-offs now by some miracle, the quality of play just isn't there and we won't last long versus any of the other top six. A real shame we lost momentum, we only have ourselves to blame for not scoring a couple of vitals penalties and for conceding late. That confidence from run of form looks long gone now though. -
He has improved leaps and bounds this season and has started to use his physicality. Gets up well for headers and is a danger with both feet now too. I never saw Speedie play for us, but Shearer was an incredible finisher.

Kaminski Carter/Phillips - van Hecke (hopefully) - Wharton NEW - Buckley - Travis - Edun - Pickering Dack/Markanday - Gallagher

How so? They both help the opposition keep clean sheets now. -

Not on the front foot, starting games like last season gifting the opposition chances. Second half a lot better, came close through Buckley and Dack - not sure what Gallagher was trying to do. Is he doing a Duffy and confusing which team he's on? The referee let the game be way too physical and players getting away with blatant fouls. I really feared for Dack coming into this one. As much as Gallagher frustrates me I think him and Dack upfront unless Breo is fully fit is the way to go for Coventry. A lot of time for them both to train well and Dack makes his teammates so much better with his smartness. Rothwell is having a poor run, Dolan is highly ineffective most of the time. Wahhhh how we miss Breo in this team. Keep fighting and anything can happen, but this team has punched the air out of me so many times over the years - the 'false' hope is the killer. Oh, and Hedges is nowhere close to play-off level, I honestly can't see what he brings to the table. -

Kaminski Lenihan - van Hecke - Wharton Nyambe - Travis - Rothwell - Pickering Dolan - Gallagher - Khadra The back three are more comfortable travelling with the ball when they have sufficient cover. In a 4-4-2 they will have to sit back more, and we took a gamble against Derby that left openings they were unable to exploit. I wouldn't change so much the formation to start the game with as we can easily adjust it, but I would definitely start Gallagher down the middle and instruct him to hold the ball up instead of trying to turn each and every time. Dolan scored so should start, while Khadra can either run his socks off for an hour before being replaced by Giles, or we try the Giles to Gallagher formula that finally gave us a goal from open play again. On set pieces we're more dangerous with all three centre backs on the field. I like the look of this team (4-4-2), as Dack has great link-up play and it would give us three or four players in the attacking box instead of one or perhaps two. More options now, so that's good. Not that I think this is our starting eleven. Kaminski Nyambe - Lenihan - van Hecke - Pickering Khadra - Travis - Rothwell - Giles Gallagher - Dack -
We will see how things look come Reading away. Last season Mowbray looked deflated and was just sat on the bench similar to the second half versus Derby. He was also upset at the fans for the lack of support, and that could be part of the reason for his behaviour as the crowd was cleary upseton Tuesday night. From what I saw on RoversTV he didn't react with much joy when we scored either, and shook hands with the Derby staff before the final whistle - I don't know if he entered the pitch but hopefully there were some pats on the backs of players in the dressing room afterwards. I hope both him and the players return to form and come out guns blazing on March 19.

Did Rothwell and Johnno swap positions without Mowbrays consent?
-
Smells of a little mutiny during HT here. Change of formation, two subs (Mowbray hardly ever make them at half time). After he said it wasn't about formation but about execution and that they hadn't prepared because the game came so soon the huge disappointment versus Bristol City. I don't know, just speculating. Johnno might have subbed himself off but at least the right subs were made. Players were tired, and so was Mowbray. Vital match before a good period of training coming up.

Well done turning this around. Great that Tony acknowledged something had to be done formation-wise here. -

We look deflated after the run we've had. Probably feel like they've had a run of bad luck. But Mowbray has to adjust when we're not creating chances, and he hasn't. -

Derby looking like they're the ones playing at home here. -

Why is Rothwell playing deep and Johnno false 9? Everyone knows he can carry the ball but he's also a lot better at pressing and can win the ball further up the field with Dolan and Khadra. Losing my patience with Tony (again) here. -

Looking like it's going to be a long night filled with pain and agony. Not pressing high, no precision and Johnno as the false no. 9. -

Kaminiski Lenihan - van Hecke - Wharton JRC - Buckley - Travis - Rothwell - Pickering Giles - Dolan - Khadra Gallagher for Khadra if needed, tell him to play an old fashioned forward role. Get in the box, hold the ball up - pass it. Don't run into, and get stuck in, channels by yourself. Buckley and Rothwell looked lively versus Millwall. Hoping Giles can continue improving as he has something in him. -
v Millwall (h) - 8/3/22
Torgeir replied to Uddersfelt Blue's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Hugely disappointing. Millwall showed us great respect by dropping deeper in the second half and going for the counter only. Gallagher, Bucko and JRC have to score those. Buckley looked a lot fresher again tonight, links up well with Rothwell. A game suited for Dack this one... -
v Fulham (a) - 5/3/22
Torgeir replied to Proudtobeblue&white's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
Kaminski big mistake on a day he had to be perfect. Zeefuik broke down again, very disappointing. He has potential to be a fan favourite, but looks like a downgrade from Nyambe. JRC was a lot better than in his previous couple of matches. Johnson looked assured in midfield. Fulham were a lot better than us in the first half. Looked like they took their foot off the pedal in the second, but we did better nonetheless. Gallagher had a better half than Khadra, but doesn't look much of a threat. Fulham great at working combinations and creating gaps when our central three got pulled out of position. All in all deserved win for the home side, as we needed margins on our side for this one. Results in other matches were pretty good today, but it will be a dogfight for the play-off places. I hope we can avoid Huddersfield before the final, I think they look the strongest currently. Great duel between Mitro and van Hecke today. -
Really feel for Nyambe. I hope for his sake he has signed a pre-contract or it now means he can agree terms with Rovers. He's such a good player at this level. Zeefuik was immense when he came on too. Didn't watch the full game, but listened to the first half and saw the chances before tuning in for the second. Deserved win and some really good work from the front three. Kaminski rock solid when callled upon and great display again from each and every player. Highs and lows

They dominated the first half and should have been ahead. It's back to not being ready when the game kicks off. Other than that I agree. But where are the goals going to come from? Need to find the right balance, and as I have posted numerous times I don't like Buckley as a false nine. Gallagher, Buckley and Khadra lack anticipation. -
