  1. I watched it on B&W TV with my Dad, a great game. You got to see Bobby Charlton, live, scoring with a header! That's a collector's item. I remember jumping up and down in front of the Telly when Best waltzed through and scored. Some memories (note the "tackles" on Best early on):
  2. Surely you got a notification explaining why that you had to acknowledge? I did.
  3. They are trying to design a game that is more of a slogfest than T20 and doing it by breaking quite a number of Crickets established rules. England's version of Baseball. It will be very watchable to those who need their instant gratification fix but does real Cricket nothing but harm.
  4. I think we will find that Smith plays those sort of innings a lot in this Series. Top player who is in form with a point to prove following his, quite justified, ban. How do you get Smith out? I have no idea apart from waiting for him to make a mistake or throw his wicket away, which is what he did to get England in for a couple of overs. Roy is our David Warner, out early or a big score. I like him when he goes for it, just not too early today I hope.
  5. You have been by far the best Mod on here, and by a country mile. Enjoy a break but come back, please.
  6. Everywhere I've looked it says ''undisclosed''. My estimate is 300k with add-ons, or not much more
  7. "Charlton's record of 5 wins out of 47 when playing away on the first day of the season" https://www.castrust.org/2019/08/blackburn-and-charlton-over-200m-in-debt/ They go for 0-0 as being a good result for Charlton but I expect a Rovers win by 3-2
  8. I think Larry will develop Joe very well. I really hope Joe succeeds and bangs goals in and I'm certainly going to follow his progress.
  9. Sir Stanley was a one position genius. Sir Tom could do magic all across the pitch. (Sir) Bryan was ours and also a genius. Ronaldo was very good in his time at MU but not as yet the finished article and nowhere near as good as Best, comparing their times in 'Proper Lancs' Everything I've heard or read about Bob Crompton point to him being the superstar of his time.
  10. Being up against possibly the best Test batsman in the world who's in form is a bit of a factor as is setting a very defensive field allowing Smith to go T20
  11. I think we will get another backup keeper for no Fee and that's it. We will need to score a lot this coming season to get wins.
  12. Mowbray: ''defensively we’re fine'' and versatile. Well, we are going to find out soon enough but maybe not v Charlton.
  13. 1966 at OT v Burnley. We were in Manchester on a School trip studying 'conurbations' (and Cider as I recall) and took the game in. Vivid memory of Best putting the fullback on his backside a few times with his dribbling and speed of foot. 1971 v Everton at Goodison. George was showing a bit of belly but on an awful pitch was still a classic. I think the Law, Best and Charlton trio played in both games. Edit: Just checked as I had forgotten the exact scores and Law did not play v Everton. Utd hammered Dingles 4-1, lost at Goodison
  14. Same here. What I really get messed up with is the ''Ashes'' title for it seems all the Ladies games v Oz.
  15. My Dad was Rovers through and through but always said Tom Finney was the best complete footballer he had ever seen play live. He said Finney could have played in any position. Best I've seen play live in ''Lancs Traditional'' is Bryan Douglas. Best footballer I've ever seen play live was Best.
  16. Names & Numbers explained https://www.ecb.co.uk/england/men/news/1297795/england-s-ashes-shirt-numbers-confirmed now 8 down!!!
  17. I remember that game well, and for those watching in B&W Leicester City are laying from Left to Right, or whatever it was. I came from quite a small village and we got one of the first B&W Tvs. The Post Office mistress had one and the packed Social Club another but no TV in the Local or so I was told. The arrival of Colour TV in our house in1970 was a watershed moment as was the arrival of a 16-year-old Lass from Glasgow on holiday in the Village!! Roma was her name
  18. Fantastic full name. This could take a while so let's start with 'Adarabioyo' is it pronounced Ada-rabi-oyo or Adar-abi-oyo or ???
  19. I watched that live in colour on TV, Dad upgraded from B&W to colour TV just before the WC 1970. Maybe the best Brazil team I've seen in my time.
  20. My first pair came with spare studs and a handful of small nails, but you had to have your own hammer. A skill at self stitching your forehead was useful with an externally laced ball that soaked in water and gained weight. Good old days? fek that.
  21. My immediate thought was that he meant to fail but then again he had scored well in normal time. It was just about as bad a kick as any footballer could make.
  22. A very enjoyable read and great photos. Thanks. Edit: Just like to wish Jim W. all the best in his retirement. I always enjoyed his blogs apart from when he had a go at BRFCS and its posters. A very good read on football, music and nostalgia
