  1. The two lads he's having a go at are complete pond life though. You only need to look at their tweets back to the rovers fans who've criticised them for being abusive to Bennet.
  2. Based on a few comments like this during the game I decided to watch the stream from about 78 minutes onwards (i didn't realise there was a stream until it became obvious UK residents were watching it.) All I will say is he must ahve been bloody good before I turned it on !!
  3. Rovers should have let him continue, created a supporters section for content on iFollow and posted them on there instead of YouTube. Problem solved.
  4. Obviously. And nowhere did I say it did !
  5. But there was money left in the budget after August, and more money was made available in January, so had we not signed BB we could have signed someone for a similar fee and paid them bigger wages. Buying Brereton emptied a large chunk of that budget, and we have seen no return on the pitch for blowing that budget yet. Whether the money was spent on fees or wages, it was still spent and stops us having that money to spend on other targets. You've hit the nail on the head that we've tried to buy capital, a future sellable assett, rather than instant impact to the team. However on what we've seen so far, that seems a failed gamble.
  6. That doesn't mean he's on peanuts. Its basically saying we had a pot of money and can divide I think up how we see fit. Even if he's only on, say, four grand a week, that's four grand a week extra we could have added to the wage bill to bring someone like Austin in on loan. Whatever budget we had, a large portion of it has now gone on Brereton. There's no getting away from it. As for him not getting supported at Ewood, yes there are lots of individuals who say he's crap and a waste of money. Such is football. However he can't hear this and he's never received noticeable dissent or abuse from the Ewood crowd. You are coming across like we should be singing his name and in raptures every time he's on the pitch otherwise it's unfair on him and he'll never make it as a footballer.
  7. That Cole transfer is a good example of what happens in January now. You have to remember the circumstances and timing of the move. (I remembered we were struggling so just looked it up) We were 3 points off the bottom 3, in a very poor run of form and had just lost consecutive home games to Sunderland and bottom of the league Derby over Christmas. Grabbi was struggling and Jansen hadnt settled yet in the Prem. As our main strikers, they had only scored only 2 league goals between them all season. The momentum was downward but fortunately the club invested big money in a gamble to fend off the possibility of relegation by bringing in Cole. We eventually survived a won a cup to boot. The overall stats may look now like it wasn't a great return from £8mill on Cole. However the job he did, and the lift he gave that team to survive that season and set the platform to become a stable premier league team, was worth well more that the £8mill we spent. Its a prime example of overpaying at this time of year but gambling to ensure the riches of the premier league continue.
  8. I'm torn here. Your making a stern defence but as you have already pointed out, he hasn't shown enough behind the scenes or in games for him to make 2 consecutive starts yet regardless of the competition. That's because on what he has show so far he has looked very poor. Therefore, whilst I don't agree that the money has been definitely wasted as he surely must be better than he currently appears to be, on what we have seen so far it looks like it could have been wasted. If he's so good in training, he should be starting games. If not, he will fall down the pecking order (as has happened) and when we do eventually bring somebody in he's going to get pushed further back. We'll never know because the TM will not say anything remotely to back it up, but I'd be amazed if Mowbray isn't regretting what appeared a knee-jerk reaction. We have had two transfer windows to find backup for Danny Graham without success and yet, regardless of how much the actual deal costs us, we've spent more money on BB than we have on any player in the last 5 years and he's made no impact. As for your last sentence, the vast majority of the times we start a game without Graham with somebody else up top we look poor. Mowbray hasn't got a lot wrong but he's still firmly to blame with his tinkering and team selection for the Preston debacle when he tried one of his weird striking combo's.
  9. It's meant to get warmer and wetter in the South East so it's more overnight frost than snow that would be a problem. Mixed reports on whether Griffin Park has undersoil heating.
  10. Are Mowbrays comments in that article from the press conference yesterday?
  11. We are currently on a run of 1 win in 8 from away games - the one win being last time out in what was a relatively poor performance until the last 10 minutes. If we are to have serious chances of making the top 6 then that obviously needs to improve. There's only Norwich left to play away who are above us in the league, but that is only relevant if we start picking up wins away from home against the lower teams - hopefully starting Saturday.
  12. Tony had a dream. To build a football team. We had no money cos we signed Brereton for loads. Mulgrew at the back ...........
  13. Chapman should really be fit to start making cameos by the end of Feb unless we've signed him with an injury.
  14. I completely agree although it's disappointing we couldn't strengthen the squad. All I'm saying is that after those quotes, and the run we have been on, it was realistic to expect that this week we might actually have brought in some players who would be pushing to start . Personally I think the breakthrough of Travis has been the catalyst to our recent form and he's been like a new signing since the turn of the year.
  15. "There’s some [money] left, but that isn’t to say that there is a further opportunity for the owners, and it would be their decision, to agree a further budget.” “If we are, come January, still in touch with the top six and we’re still competitive, they’ll say ‘Tony, what do you want? If I think we need him or him, they’ll say go for it Tony" Based on the above quotes from November, then yes, we really expected we might actually have spent some money and brought in someone.
  16. 5 games on loan doesn't give them true dingle status. However 41 goals in 82 appearances whilst becoming a cult hero over there does lift Brickie Charlie into Dingle status. I'd still have him in on loan mind you.
  17. My mate, a former season ticket holder, has now been to 4 games this season :- Hull when he got offered a adult free ticket and then bought one for his child. Birmingham when it was -7 and he got offered a free adult ticket and then bought one for his child. Rotherham when he got offered a free ticket and then bought one for his child. Newcastle at £10 when he came with me. Make of that what you will. He can't be unique amongst the ex-season ticket holders.
  18. If Boro get through against Newport in their FA Cup replay, I presume our home game on the 17th will be postponed.
  19. The referee determined there was a foul after the ball was dead though so all your scenarios don't matter. In himdsight, the ref should have give a corner and let VAR check the penalty. That may be the way forward but I fear that you will end with all challenges in the box leading to playing on until the video is checked. Refs will duck making decisions. And no, I don't want VAR to cook my dinner. Just to give a simple corner. Wednesday have been penalised because the ref made a bad call. I do agree that I'd love to know why Wednesday didn't contest it.
  20. It may well be the correct call by the ever changing rules of VAR, but the fact is that using VAR ultimately led to the wrong decision. Therefore VAR hasn't 'done its job' as people keep saying.
  21. I think VAR can only give penalties. Therefore, as the ref never gave the corner, VAR can't give the corner, which is where I'm saying it hasn't worked correctly. If we have VAR then surely we should be ending up with the correct outcome. Similar happened on Thursday night with the Hazard penalty incident.
  22. When the referee blew his whistle the ball was out of play.
  23. How has it worked if the wrong decision is given at the end? It's a corner to Sheffield Wednesday but the ref incorrectly gives a penalty. VAR overrules the ref and its suddenly an uncontested drop ball. Wednesdays next touch is kicking off 1-0 behind. VAR has surely to give the correct decision which was corner.
  24. So Wednesday should have had either a penalty or a corner. The ref gives the penalty but VAR overruled. As it is referred to VAR, the game is restarted as an uncontested drop ball (instead of the corner) from which chelsea go straight down the other end and score.
  25. Forgot about that horror. That's been erased from my memory banks. Whilst I don't view Bolton in the Burney / Preston rivalry bracket, I sat next to a Bolton fan at work around then and met him before and after the game. Horrible.
