As far as the club's finances are concerned that responsibility lies solely with the owners and Waggott. Mowbray can recommend players to sign and contracts he would like extended, but it is up to the owners and the CEO to decide if his recommendations fit in with the club's overall vision from a financial perspective. People above Mowbray should be assessing the viability of spending £7m on BBD or £5m on Sam Gallagher and asking if that money is being spent responsibly and whether it could cause problems further down the line. Ditto with contact extensions, pay rises, etc. However, the club seems to have no obvious vision or structure. Instead, as always, the responsibility for all of these areas is heaped on the manager's shoulders. This not only creates an issue whereby the manager is being asked to perform duties that should be beyond his remit, but also means that if the manager is removed from his position the club's entire vision is removed along with it and we have to start from scratch. It's a massively flawed model that we've more or less been operating with for the entirety of Venky's tenure, save for the periods where the likes of Shebby, Agnew, Shaw and Senior briefly appeared to give the impression some sort of structure was being implemented. Ultimately these appointments simply ended up causing even more chaos, however, as there appears to be no real direction from the very top. Mowbray needs to go, but even when he eventually does nothing much will change until the root cause of our decline is addressed - that being the owners' inability to implement a structure at the club which allows every part of the operation to function correctly. As long as we continue to rely on the first team manager to set the direction of the entire club we will go nowhere.

In my view it's very similar to the Bowyer years. The players know they have the quality to put up a fight if they feel like it, but without the manager adding that extra motivation they are too often found coasting when their minds need to be far more focused and driven. Mowbray himself has said the dressing room is the players' domain and he doesn't interfere, so we have to assume the second half revivals we often see are down to the players giving themselves a kick up the backside - and that's not me making up a scenario just to rip on the manager, those are his words and I wouldn't know how else to interpret them.
-
Considering the amount of appalling first halves we've witnessed under his tenure I can't agree with this. There have been far too many games where we've come out looking weak, unprepared and unwilling to compete. After 4+ seasons that's on the manager.
-
Watford are a bit of an outlier when it comes to manager turnover, to say the least. The fact is after a dismal run of 2 wins in 17 matches and ending last season regressing at a rate of knots the vast majority of owners would have pulled the trigger on Mowbray months ago. The fact he remains here either shows that the owners know nothing about football or nothing about the what is happening at the club. Chances are it's both, which leaves us doubly fucked.

Because there's no precedent for this situation, based on BBD's historical strike rate, it's really tough to call. The Chile call up has obviously done wonders for his confidence, and I think he's benefitting massively from Armstrong's departure and the opportunity to take more shots. Right now it seems like the only way his momentum could be hampered is by injury, or being Mowbrayed somehow. I've got no skin in the game, so to speak, so I can't say what I'd do, but considering we're looking at another disappointing season it would be really cool if some Rovers fans got a nice payout from this bet.
-
Probably realising they dropped an almighty clanger with that one! At the moment it seems like the only way Diaz won't hit the 20 goal mark is if he picks up an injury which keeps him out for a couple of months. I'm assuming in the event we sold him in January the bet would also be voided? It seems unlikely that it would happen, but if BBD's agent makes it clear a new contract won't be signed - even if the one-year extenstion is triggered - there may be a temptation at the club to cash out whilst his value is potentially at its peak.

Genuine question, is there evidence Venky's businesses outside of Rovers have suffered due to the pandemic? Last I saw their stock price had dramatically increased during covid, suggesting there was no concern from investors. Not saying there isn't proof out there showing that they are struggling, I just haven't seen it.

Lost causes on there I'm afraid. Most of them seem to be bigger fans of Tony Mowbray than Blackburn Rovers.
-
It was, he blamed the players. Love how he talks about this like it's a one off, and we haven't had at least one turgid half in almost every game during his tenure here.

I don't think a single person on here, or probably across the fanbase in general, would have said after the last match 'yeah, stick Magloire in there again'. The only person who thought this was a good idea is unfortunately the person in charge of selecting the team. Part of me feels sorry for Magloire. Putting him out there again after his midweek display, where he was clearly shown to be well below the level required, is almost cruel.
-
The thing is he didn't have to play Magloire. There were other options. Travis or even Bucko could have played there at a stretch and been replaced by others in midfield. Not ideal, but may have worked. Mowbray has zero creativity or nous, though, and we all knew he'd pick the worst option which was to just stick with what he did last time, irrespective of how badly it went.
-
I can see us slipping down to 15th or lower before we finally start picking up more points. We'll then go on another brief winning run, getting within touching distance of 6th before falling away again. And that's probably an optimistic prediction.
-
This place is definitely not representative of the wider fanbase!
-
One of the reasons Mowbray avoids major flack is because we rarely get tonked. Even when we are diabolical the difference in scoreline always tends to be fairly narrow, not often more than a couple of goals. One of the benefits of playing in a poor division I suppose.
-
As mentioned before, the bookies will be paying out the BBD bet by Christmas at this rate.
-
Let's be honest, we all knew as soon as we picked up a couple of injuries or suspensions we'd be fucked. Left with a bunch of kids managed by a moron. The points we picked up at the beginning of the season are banked for fighting to stay clear of a relegation battle. That's how I've viewed it regardless of our position in the table or the claims of certain people that this time, this time Mowbray has finally got it right. He'll never get it right. I can't wait until he's gone.

All aboard the Mowbray death spiral?

I would be really concerned if Travis was relocated to right back. He'd do a job there, but we would be taking the engine out of our midfield which is a massive gamble to take. Particularly as I don't think there is anybody of similar calibre able to step into that role. We are pretty limited in terms of options, though, thanks to our pathetic summer transfer window. -
I have no idea what their budget is tbh. They need to work out how to stop losing pretty quickly though, or they will be in serious trouble.

To be fair, yes, Lenihan hasn't done too badly over the past couple of seasons. Averaged about 10 games missing which isn't horrendous. With that said it still really concerns me how much worse we look defensively without him - especially as we don't look that good to begin with. We can't just afford to write off the games he doesn't play. Carter looks OK but I need to see more of Wharton before I'm happy to call him an able backup. He did look decent last season before he got injured, but it was only for a handful of games. Nyambe and the right back position in general is a much bigger concern for me. I'd expect to see Bucko or Travis back there covering before Pike gets a chance, which would really weaken our midfield. If Pickering gets injured we're pretty stuffed on the left hand side as well. -
6 losses out of 7 and 9 goals shipped in their last two games certainly indicates a huge issue. The immediate thought is that the players have downed tools but Mick doesn't have a reputation for losing dressing rooms so I'd be surprised if that was the case.

Real Madrid 1-2 Sheriff Tiraspol 😂 not a bad goal to win the game with!

We'll find out soon enough if anything has truly changed this season. Lose to Blackpool and I think we're on our way to yet another Mowbray death spiral. Relying on Nyambe/Lenihan/Ayala to stay fit was always going to be a huge, huge gamble and as they begin dropping in and out through injuries and suspension I think we'll really struggle. -

Tbf those two are known for being injury prone so it shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, especially the manager. We should be well prepared for the absence of Lenihan, Nyambe and eventually Ayala as well. Instead we're chucking on kids and hoping for the best as we have nothing else in reserve. We've got a first 11 to challenge anyone in this division, but beyond that we are painfully thin. Add in a manager who is frequently shown to be clueless and you're looking at a rough time. -

1000/1 if I recall correctly.
