When it comes to accusing our own fans of reducing one of our own players to tears you're damn right I want more evidence. The fact you don't speaks volumes.
-
I'm weird in that I generally like to see proof of something before I believe what a random stranger on a forum says. Odd behaviour, I know! But you obviously know Bad Boy well to be able to vouch for him, so fair enough. I do find it odd that Brereton coming off the pitch in tears from the abuse of Rovers fans was never reported, never spoken about by the club and never mentioned beyond Twitter, but hey, somebody on a forum says it happened so it must be true.
-
Because there's no proof anywhere that it's true. People lie for all sorts of reasons, especially if it helps an argument they're making. Brereton coming off to muttered frustration in the crowd and looking irritated afterwards became Brereton being hounded off the pitch by bloodthirsty Rovers fans and reduced to tears on the bench. Don't you think if the latter were true it would have been reported somewhere, or Mowbray would have been asked about it after the match? It's a bullshit rumour made up on twitter by the usual supporters who for whatever reason love causing conflict within the fanbase.

As far as TM being 'right' in spending £7m on BBD, it comes down to two factors. Either his presence and goals fire us to promotion, or we sell him for a decent profit. If either of those come to pass then yes, the purchase can be called a success. Obviously leaving Brereton's contract to run down is putting us into an awkward position as far as his sale value goes, and it seems TM is unable to build a team here that he can get promoted. So, let's wait and see what happens. The ultimate aim should be to build a team that can achieve promotion, but at the same time the reality for clubs in our position is that we need to be able to sell some assets for much more than we brought them in for. If that happens with BBD then there is an argument that it was, in the end, a smart signing.
-
If we're being honest, if BBD gets an offer from a club in a better position than us, willing to pay more wages and with a higher chance of winning something he'd be crazy not to take that opportunity. I don't think the lad needs an agent to tell him that. It's clear he's willing to step outside his comfort zone by the fact he went and played for Chile despite not knowing the language or any of his team mates. With his international allegiance in mind a move to Spain would probably be the next logical step. At this point it really is just a case of whether we sell him in January or the summer as far as I can see. I think hopes of him signing a new contract here, beyond the 12 month trigger, are highly likely to be dashed.

It's really sad to see Newcastle's gleeful reaction to becoming a propaganda arm of the Saudi regime. I get that they are sick to death of Mike Ashley, and they are about to get a huge boost in the coffers, but for me the price for their potential success is too great. I can genuinely say that as awful as Venky's tenure has been, I'd still rather stick with them than the club be owned in all but name by Saudi Arabia. If we were owned by the likes of them I'm not sure any success that followed would really mean anything to me. I guess it depends on how much congnitive dissonance you can muster as a fan.

Liar is maybe a bit strong but he's certainly been economical with the truth and comes out with a lot of BS, eg. "I don't look at the league table". Yeah, sure. I don't think he was necessarily lying when he said "defenders are coming" - I'm sure at the time he believed that - but when they didn't turn up he just hand waved it away and didn't give any real explanation as to why it didn't happen. My biggest problem with Mowbray isn't lying, it's the complete lack of accountability for everything. It would be nice for him to just hold his hands up every so often and say "yeah, I got that one wrong, sorry".
-
Yep, somebody got Goldberg to say Venky's Out as well, although he probably had no idea what is was all about!
-
Good effort. Reminds me of the Kean Out days when it was appearing everywhere.

As has been said, since they're offering cash out they won't be able to void the bet at this point. The fact they're already offering 50% cash out in October on those odds suggests they believe there's a good chance BBD will hit 20 by the end of the season. With that said if I'd put money down and had the opportunity to take £5k-10k now I'd find it hard to say no. It's a bonkers risk/reward ratio. I would imagine SkyBet will conduct some kind of internal review to work out how this happened. I didn't check but I'm guessing they were the only bookie offering odds like that on BBD, or maybe any Championship striker.

Reminds me of when they said Derek Shaw had "gone rogue" during the Henning Berg payoff debacle, throwing him under the bus and then proceeding to employ him for another 3 years.

As far as the club's finances are concerned that responsibility lies solely with the owners and Waggott. Mowbray can recommend players to sign and contracts he would like extended, but it is up to the owners and the CEO to decide if his recommendations fit in with the club's overall vision from a financial perspective. People above Mowbray should be assessing the viability of spending £7m on BBD or £5m on Sam Gallagher and asking if that money is being spent responsibly and whether it could cause problems further down the line. Ditto with contact extensions, pay rises, etc. However, the club seems to have no obvious vision or structure. Instead, as always, the responsibility for all of these areas is heaped on the manager's shoulders. This not only creates an issue whereby the manager is being asked to perform duties that should be beyond his remit, but also means that if the manager is removed from his position the club's entire vision is removed along with it and we have to start from scratch. It's a massively flawed model that we've more or less been operating with for the entirety of Venky's tenure, save for the periods where the likes of Shebby, Agnew, Shaw and Senior briefly appeared to give the impression some sort of structure was being implemented. Ultimately these appointments simply ended up causing even more chaos, however, as there appears to be no real direction from the very top. Mowbray needs to go, but even when he eventually does nothing much will change until the root cause of our decline is addressed - that being the owners' inability to implement a structure at the club which allows every part of the operation to function correctly. As long as we continue to rely on the first team manager to set the direction of the entire club we will go nowhere.

In my view it's very similar to the Bowyer years. The players know they have the quality to put up a fight if they feel like it, but without the manager adding that extra motivation they are too often found coasting when their minds need to be far more focused and driven. Mowbray himself has said the dressing room is the players' domain and he doesn't interfere, so we have to assume the second half revivals we often see are down to the players giving themselves a kick up the backside - and that's not me making up a scenario just to rip on the manager, those are his words and I wouldn't know how else to interpret them.
-
Considering the amount of appalling first halves we've witnessed under his tenure I can't agree with this. There have been far too many games where we've come out looking weak, unprepared and unwilling to compete. After 4+ seasons that's on the manager.
-
Watford are a bit of an outlier when it comes to manager turnover, to say the least. The fact is after a dismal run of 2 wins in 17 matches and ending last season regressing at a rate of knots the vast majority of owners would have pulled the trigger on Mowbray months ago. The fact he remains here either shows that the owners know nothing about football or nothing about the what is happening at the club. Chances are it's both, which leaves us doubly fucked.
-
Because there's no precedent for this situation, based on BBD's historical strike rate, it's really tough to call. The Chile call up has obviously done wonders for his confidence, and I think he's benefitting massively from Armstrong's departure and the opportunity to take more shots. Right now it seems like the only way his momentum could be hampered is by injury, or being Mowbrayed somehow. I've got no skin in the game, so to speak, so I can't say what I'd do, but considering we're looking at another disappointing season it would be really cool if some Rovers fans got a nice payout from this bet.
-
Probably realising they dropped an almighty clanger with that one! At the moment it seems like the only way Diaz won't hit the 20 goal mark is if he picks up an injury which keeps him out for a couple of months. I'm assuming in the event we sold him in January the bet would also be voided? It seems unlikely that it would happen, but if BBD's agent makes it clear a new contract won't be signed - even if the one-year extenstion is triggered - there may be a temptation at the club to cash out whilst his value is potentially at its peak.
-
Genuine question, is there evidence Venky's businesses outside of Rovers have suffered due to the pandemic? Last I saw their stock price had dramatically increased during covid, suggesting there was no concern from investors. Not saying there isn't proof out there showing that they are struggling, I just haven't seen it.
-
Lost causes on there I'm afraid. Most of them seem to be bigger fans of Tony Mowbray than Blackburn Rovers.
-
It was, he blamed the players. Love how he talks about this like it's a one off, and we haven't had at least one turgid half in almost every game during his tenure here.
-
I don't think a single person on here, or probably across the fanbase in general, would have said after the last match 'yeah, stick Magloire in there again'. The only person who thought this was a good idea is unfortunately the person in charge of selecting the team. Part of me feels sorry for Magloire. Putting him out there again after his midweek display, where he was clearly shown to be well below the level required, is almost cruel.
-
The thing is he didn't have to play Magloire. There were other options. Travis or even Bucko could have played there at a stretch and been replaced by others in midfield. Not ideal, but may have worked. Mowbray has zero creativity or nous, though, and we all knew he'd pick the worst option which was to just stick with what he did last time, irrespective of how badly it went.
-
I can see us slipping down to 15th or lower before we finally start picking up more points. We'll then go on another brief winning run, getting within touching distance of 6th before falling away again. And that's probably an optimistic prediction.
-
This place is definitely not representative of the wider fanbase!
-
One of the reasons Mowbray avoids major flack is because we rarely get tonked. Even when we are diabolical the difference in scoreline always tends to be fairly narrow, not often more than a couple of goals. One of the benefits of playing in a poor division I suppose.
