Sam did a good job at Rovers, and I'd thank him for that but I'm sure the squad he'd assemble would be nowhere near as successful in the tournament and in making the country care about the national team again.

It is good to see England players without the baggage, of either being over hyped hollywood stars like Beckham, one last shot of success like many others in recent tournaments and just not been scarred by previous failures. They seem to turn up, try their best and get on with it.

I was a massive critic of the appointment of Southgate, because is stank of jobs for the boys, and he was pants at Boro.
