  1. So you would not have taken a point away to Ipswich before the game? I think most of us would and while the manner of that draw was disappointing having been in front and them equalizing late on, we could quite have easily been 3-1 up as well. I think it was unfortunate really that we missed that Palmer chance and then a rather fluke goal went in for them. That being said, we looked comfortable against a team that finished midtable in the Championship last season using practically the same team that was promoted from League 1. We still have to look forward to what impact Davenport, Palmer, Rothwell and Armstrong on the team and how much more they will strengthen us. Then we are told to expect some more signings too which should hopefully improve us as well. I was gutted at the goal but overall I feel a little more confident that we have enough to stay up (that is the minimum expectation this season for me). I would take a draw away from home at any team this season as long as we have good home form.
  2. Charlton have been selling off anything that moves for the past few seasons anyway (probably one reason he wants out) - I think this is more to do with them being greedy over the fee and he is letting them know that they will lose him for nothing eventually anyway.
  3. Negotiating his wages, length of the deal etc plus he mentions he had other clubs in for him as well. Newcastle might have been haggling for more upfront etc - then when they sold Mitrovic they were a little bit happier to be more lenient on this front. Plenty of reasons why it might have taken a while.
  4. On paper we do arguably have the players to use this system more so than our current formation. He has never seemingly liked out and out wingers and the Bell signing last season seems to be a bit odd unless it was for use in a system like 3 at the back. Not saying he will use it as our starting formation but he does like to have it as an option.
  5. Aarons is a good shout but I believe WBA are trying to bring him in.
  6. Ok, so who is next? Legs in this McGinn link? Direct competition/cover for Graham? A tricky winger re Maddisson? or will that Bauer becoming in?
  7. Derby fans were impressed with him last season and wanted him to be played more often. Plus helping Huddersfield to promotion the season before. I am going to put that miss down to 1st match nerves.
  8. Did pretty well last season with his goal return - sure it was a league lower but I am confident TM can get the best out of him. Has always done well for TM and just having his pace is a big plus for us as we were lacking this massively.
  9. Is it a 3-2-4-1 or a 4-2-3-1? Its obvious which one it is of course but depends which way up you look at it!
  10. Was hoping it would be done quickly today as said on the other thread. Good signing this, young, hungry, has pace and is a great finisher. A good season int he Championship and he will double/triple his value.
  11. Would be great to get Armstrong in the building today (or as quickly as possible) so that they can work on the remaining signings. This transfer window is going to be hectic this week across the board. On a side note - could we have a separate Agents thread as it gets quite boring and I would at least know which thread to avoid.
  12. Exactly. Smallwood and Evans are too similar, one in the team is okay but we need someone in there that can play a bit. McGin sounds like that kind of player but whether we really have the dosh for him alongside everything else we need is another matter. Perhaps Davenport can be an answer.
  13. Edwards is the cheaper of the two as well, and how he demolished Williams either means he is a cut above or Williams really aint that good. Probably somewhere int he middle but if Maddison is what 5x the value, he must be something.
  14. Rest of team was pants perhaps? They certainly did not have trouble scoring goals as Marriot shows - perhaps these two wingers might have played a big part in that?
  15. We cannot let them get both, Edwards on one wing and Maddisson on the other!!!
  16. Near the end of the season and earlier in preseason you were claiming we didnt need a another CB Chaddy and kept saying that Williams and Nyambe can play there. Now that the club is linked with one you change your tune again saying we need 5 CBs as you dont want to use Williams there.
  17. Think Davenport will be in ahead of one of the two as soon as he shakes off this niggle. Like you said, the two yesterday could not get a hold on the game at all - the game passed them by. Something needs to change in there and we need to ship a few out. Still, a striker and a winger is equally as important. Still lots of work to do on this squad.
  18. if RS got the impression that a midfielder would be aour big money signing, it kinda shows that TM knows we are weak in that area despite being well stocked. I guess he like others have thought, is that Smallwood is great in L1 but is not quite up for it in the Championship. Add to that the one good performance in ten from Evans and it is quite clear we need more quality there. Running around a lot and harassing their players will get you far in L1 but we need people in their that can play a bit as well for the Championship. We have four forwards in front of them, so need someone behind that can contribute to getting them in decent areas.
  19. Million plus Evans, Gladwin and Whittingham.
  20. Dack didnt look pleased to come off. Palmer seemed to try to hard I feel. The ironically when he had an easy chance he made a hash of it. Those videos of him lashing the ball into the net in training and we got a tame effort straight at the keeper. Still, he needs time to get up to speed and I am sure he will show what he can do. Bennett puts a shift in and offers more protection to Williams but going forward he is a bit of a liability - would rather see him in the middle really probably as a replacement to one of Smallwood or Evans and bring in Davenport or Travis alongside him. We had very little quality in the middle with Evans and Smallwood being two similar players. I thought Nyambe had a very solid game but then again, they sent all their attacks down our right side with Edwards against Williams. Nyambe is good on the ball and has some very good feet for a fullback and think he will develop into a very good player. He has come on a long way and i know he got a lot of criticism in the past but i really like how he has turned out. Both our goals were well worked, particularly the second which was created by an excellent bit of skill from Graham who shows that he really is an intelligent player. I dont think Williams planned to run past him but that ball forced him to and fair play to Williams as he put it on a plate for Dack who really could not miss.
  21. Thanks mate - nice to have a reasoned poster from other clubs on the board - hopefully you set the trend this season. We would have all taken a point before the game so cannot complain but as you will know, the manner and timing of your equalizer still hurts. You must be happy with that Edwards chap? Many on here wanted us to snap him up after his performances against us last season and judging by the game, he will have no problems stepping up to the championship and already looks to be your best player. He will go for big bucks in a season or two judging by the crazy fees being paid. Scrappy game in the first 10 minutes with the ball in the air so much but was crazy that you scored with your first chance and then we scored from our first two chances. We usually like to get it down and play but are lacking in CM, need someone in there that can play it around a bit rather than two workhorses. Anyhow, wish you guys the best of luck for the season (apart from at Ewood).
