Forgotten Players

I thought Vinny Jones was a pretty underrated player, his nasty ways stole the headlines but he could play a bit as well (similar to Robbie savage) -

God! Just remembered one "forgotten player" that I don't think has even got a mention on here yet even though he's pretty much the epitome of the topic imo! Nicky Marker๐ The most dependable , reliable no nonsense CB or DM you could have as back up on your bench. Always filled in brilliantly when the likes of Hendry, batty , etc.. were injured Marker also pretty much destroyed man u class of 92 graduate Ben Thorleys blossoming career with a nasty tackle that literally snapped Thornleys leg in half pretty much ๐ I think it was only a reserve gave as well good little interview https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2020/february/champions-nicky-marker/ -

Just had a goog! He actually played 41 games for us at left back between 91-93!! guessing he was back up for alan wright then or something? Anyway I'm sure the slightly older members here will have remembered him -

Dobson!! I've never even heard the name before, must have been as a sun or something in the 92/93 season? Just before I really started following them -

Now that names are just getting repeated on this topic maybe a new similar topic for Unsung Heroes Could be the next topic There's been players over the decades that might have only played a handful of games(or even just one!) and saved our bacon in some way (think jon stead for an obvious example) then theres others like Flitcroft above that captained the side for years but kept a relatively low profile and rarely made headlines -

True dat about your opening comment๐ but to think Flitcroft was a "Forgotten player" isn't far off saying Dunn or MGP are forgotten players. Flitcroft did all the dirty work that allowed the likes of Tugay and Dunn to flourish. Id say more of an unsung hero than forgotten ๐ค -

and paid a lot of money for him only to do nothing for 3 years, If it wasn't for the confidence boost Brereton received from his Chilean adventures I've no doubt that he'd still be struggling -

the Likes of Garret and Wharton wouldnt be anywhere near the starting 11 under mowbray! he'd soon play a dolloper like edun out of position from the start than give someone like Garret a shot -

well whatever the final result you can guarantee Tony titbag will be taking credit for BBD and the youngsters that are now coming through(even though he likely had zero input into the youth players progression) -

if were still serious play-off/promotion contenders in jan he'd be very wise to just see the season out with us (and in a dream scenario be part of a promotion winning team with us and sign a new contract as a prem player for us) -

to be fair it's not really that unusual to play a RB at LB if the LB is out (id prefer him there than edun anyway! -

Would be the absolute perfect time to break the WLWLWLW hoodoo but then it would also be the worst time for it to continue A first draw of the season would be VERY VERY welcome! -

I can't even complain about Tomassons line ups anymore, just feels there's always just about a 50/50 chance of us winning or losing regardless of the starting 11 and formation Although just personally I am really starting to hate 3 at the back garbage. -
But supposedly with the way things are being run JDT doesn't technically make any decisions on identifying players to sign, he just gets players profiles put in front of him and says yaa or naa. Shit way of doing things this head coach & director of football set-up is nonsense Just give the MANAGER a budget and his own scouting team and let him do his job properly with no interference. Broughton can/should just be in charge of youth player recruitment, etc... Leave senior recruitment etc.

Totally agree For away games at least we should now just do what hughes and Allardyce did, a solid 451 and just dont give the opposition an inch, because we have to start turning some of those loses into draws at least! Problem is though, that usually requires having at least 1 double hard bugger of an anchor man/definsive midfilder type which we haven't got.
