  1. Mowbray tried to sign Bauer, in fact he spent a year chasing him.
  2. Mowbray suggested that he wanted 40-50K a week but he will certainly not be getting that at Preston. I'd be surprised if he was even getting 20K a week there.
  3. Any decent centre half will feel insulted if he is told he is going to be starting behind Derrick Williams in the pecking order.
  4. Stoke have just announced 5 signings all in one go. Will we announce 5 over the course of the whole window?
  5. I would withdraw our offer he obviously only wants to be here as a last resort. The worrying thing in that article is that Mowbray talked about his versatility, its almost like he didn't see some of his performances at centre back last season.
  6. Swansea away, Brentford away, Sheffield United home and away and the list goes on. Bennett is an a atrocious full back (and not much better elsewhere) but Mowbray likes him, so he continuously get's shoehorned into the side despite not being good enough. Nyambe on the other hand made an error against Birmingham, was publicly criticised by the manager and dropped to the bench and sometimes from the squad entirely until injuries meant he got a recall to the staring 11.
  7. I don't see any footballing qualities to suggest he is ever going to be good enough. He can't head the ball, he doesn't have much pace or any skill to beat a man, he's a poor finisher and he's lazy. What have you seen in him to suggest that he is ever going to be good enough?
  8. I honestly think to get to the level of the top 6 we are around 7-8 players away from being able to compete with the them over a 46 game season. Firstly in my opinion we need a complete overhaul of the back line a new goal keeper, a new right, back, a new left back and 2 new centre backs are needed. In central midfield we need another body. Rodwell clearly isn't keen to be here so I would withdraw our offer, Smallwood I don't class as an option, so that leaves us with Evans, Travis Davenport and maybe Downing. Evans and Davenport aren't exactly reliable in terms of fitness and Downing is 35. So another body in there is needed ideally we need someone who is comfortable on the ball that can link the play up with Dack. Personally I would like to see another natural winger brought in someone who can beat his man and get a good delivery in. Armstrong is not a winger, Chapman has fitness issues and is probably seen as a sub. Also it's clear that another striker is needed to share the load with Graham. I would also hope that we are looking to get rid of the likes of Bennett, Williams, Samuel, Brereton and Smallwood none of whom are good enough to be part of a team targeting a top 6 spot.
  9. https://www.rovers.co.uk/news/2019/june/downings-versatility-will-be-invaluable/ Words fail me.
  10. He started 28 games. Considering he wasn't signed until 5 games into the season and was injured for the final 5, I'm not sure how you come to the conclusion that he was mostly a sub.
  11. Totally agree with this, one centre back is not going to solve all of our defensive problems we will still have 2 left backs that can't defend and an average winger who is shoehorned into the team at right back. We also still have a goal keeper who costs us more points than he saves. The backline needs a complete overhaul if Mowbray is serious about a top 6 push.
  12. The signing of a manager devoid of ideas.
  13. Given how ineffective Conway was last did he really even need replacing?
  14. But it's exactly the sort of thing that Mowbray will say.
  15. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/rovers/news/17720505.rovers-want-up-to-five-signings-and-to-keep-star-men/ Tony changing position again he has previously said he wanted players to improve the starting 11, then he talked of exploring overseas markets, he's also spoke about matching the Brereton fee and now we are on to loans and frees who might make an impact. It's clear he doesn't really know what he wants which is why we have such a scatter gun approach in the market and why as we saw with last summers signings most end up playing out of position. Also if he thinks we only need 5 players then he is deluding himself. We need 4 defenders and a new goalkeeper for starters and that is before we even get on to the midfield and attackers.
  16. Over the last 3 season's promoted sides include Cardiff, Brighton, Norwich, Sheffield United all had competitive budget's but by no means the biggest and then of course there is Huddersfield who got promoted with one of the lowest budgets. So in the last 3 seasons over half the team promoted have not had by any means the highest budget. What Cardiff and Brighton had was a manager who know the league and what sort of players were needed to get out of it without spending big money. Norwich and Huddersfield had German managers who had great knowledge of the players from the overseas market which gives better value for money. And then there is Sheffield United who's manager has been playing with a specific system and way of playing with them for a few years and signed players to fit that system. Singing McGoldrick, Egan and Norwood for around £6.5 Million was fantastic business and strengthened the entire spine of their team. Mowbray has acknowledged that he could have done similar with the Brereton money but he chose not to.
  17. Swansea away mid week again.
  18. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/16859800.aston-villa-ace-john-mcginn-was-on-rovers-radar/
  19. Not according to the manager. https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/16859800.aston-villa-ace-john-mcginn-was-on-rovers-radar/
  20. We shouldn't be starting with Elliott Bennett on the pitch but he is more certain to be starting (if fit) than anybody else. We never even went in for McGinn because in Mowbray's on words he 'didn’t really see central midfield as somewhere where we needed to spend a lot of money'. A bad decision in my opinion. Had we been in for McGinn we could have got him before Villa were even an option as it wasn't until the end of July when new owners came in that they had any money to spend.
  21. Because as I explained but you appear to have missed (deliberately?). Our budget is competitive for this League and as side's like Norwich, Cardiff and Sheffield United have shown over the last few season you don't need the biggest budget to go up, they had competitive budgets (like us) but certainly not the biggest but they used their budget to recruit well. Tables aren't decided by budgets (otherwise Mowbray would have had us top of League 1 at canter) they are decided by what you spend your budget on and our budget if last summer is anything to go by is competitive for the division and if used well should have us competing for top 6.
  22. We have a good enough budget to be at the very least challenging for top 6, we just need to spend it well. Last year Norwich and Sheffield United both promoted neither side spent big money and both will have been far from the highest wage bills in the division but they had good competitive budgets like us and they spent them very well. The same the year before Cardiff had a modest budget but Warnock knew the league and what type of players to use his budget on. The trouble is with Mowbray is that apart from perhaps with Hibs over 15 years ago he has never over achieved with a club.
  23. You said we 'We just don't have the budgets of other teams in the division' I just named you 11 teams who I would imagine we can at the very least compete with if not better you can add Birmingham to that list as well to make it 12. Then there are clubs like Derby, Swansea, Sheffield Wednesday who are having to cut their budgets and sell before they buy. So there are 15 teams for you who we should be able to at the very least compete with financially in the transfer market this summer.
  24. Bristol City, Brentford and Preston are 3 the teams that he loves to big up the most.
