  1. Got a feeling the manager will go with a back 3/5 formation for this. Raya Lenihan Downing Mulgrew Nyambe Reed Rodwell Rothwell Bell Dack Graham Plenty of energy and speed to match them. Give Dack a full free role with three midfield runners. Let Reed and Rothwell get forward to support with Rodwell holding the fort. Would like to see either Armstrong or Brereton at some point up front with Graham during the game just to see how it goes. Can't drop Dack though.
  2. Watching Leeds fight back against Villa away has really made me question why some of the academy players or why players such as Rothwell cannot get into the team? The standard this year seems to be attack every team and go for the win and most teams that do that usually end up winning near the end of games. Also makes me ask why players from league 1 or league 2 who are a class above have not been looked at from what it appears. Would love the likes of Rothwell, Travis and Rodwell to name a few to be given game time. I also think the fitness levels of the team are not up to a standard they should be.
  3. I'll say it now that Brereton would have looked just as effective as Gallagher was when that dingle tosser managed us last time we were in the championship. Why? He'd play every minute of every game. Wouldn't be dropped at all Would just play with a freedom to get on with it. Now I'm not saying bring the dope back but. I am saying both Gallagher and Brereton are at a very similar level in terms of ability and style of player.
  4. And maybe that's a big reason for the lad struggling? At 19 you want to have the idea that your manager will back you and encourage you even if things don't go well. Experienced pros know they'll get other chances. Young lads will think that's my chance gone to impress. Taking him out of the signings. You still have Rothwell (Not used) Rodwell (Not used) Reed (Playing well) Armstrong (Hit and miss) Bell (Hit and miss) Palmer (Not used) I ask anyone to justify that Rodwell isn't better than Smallwood in both technical ability, mental understanding of the game and physical ability. That one player tells me everything about Mowbray. He'd back his league 1 team all the way to relegation if it came to it. That isn't a manager with the best intentions of the team.
  5. Think the formation we play doesn't suit the team and a 4312 would be better Raya Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Bell Reed Evans Rothwell Dack Graham Brereton/Armstrong Mainly because we don't have a single winger in the club who can consistently perform at this level. A 5 year younger Conway is exactly what this team needs for more balance. Can't stand playing forwards out on the wing as it's deflecting attention from the manager onto the players. Also from previous seasons Palmer has been a quality player in this league. Why all of a sudden for us does he look league 1 at best? I'm sure he played a major roll in Huddersfield going up?
  6. I'd love a manager like the guy at Sheffield United. He may come across as a knob but he keeps it simple and is efficient. The manager we have at the moment wants to play Pep football and formations on low championship wages. Two decent quick wingers and the games become much simpler. I personally don't feel massive loyalty to the guy and if we come close to the bottom 3 I would hope some boots up arses are handed it. It's to comfy comfy at this club. Perform well or pack your bags. Both players and staff.
  7. I think with any young player the best thing a manager can do is show faith in them. Whose to say Brereton wouldn't step up if he knew he would be given a run of games. Experience brings a consistently that very few younger players can match. The team as a squad is in a very peculiar situation in that we have a number of flair/lively players who could do well in this league but don't get game time. I think players such as Smallwood, Lenihan, Armstrong have been given more than enough game time to get consistency and yet they still aren't delivering. What would be everyone's best team and formation to play with this squad? Personally I think the following could work. Raya Nyambe Downing Mulgrew Williams Rothwell Evans Reed Dack Graham Brereton When you look at the squad we have the four most important players down the middle I think would get in or around the first eleven of any team in this league in Mulgrew, Reed, Dack and Graham. We don't have anyone capable of playing on the wing so we might as well not play wingers if no one can make it work. Let the fallbacks get up as they can't defend anyway. Dack will always have to play as he's the best player but he can be invisible when things don't go well resulting in a 10 vs 11 type of game. I think that eventually when he does go I could see Rothwell being a different kind of replacement for him with a change in formation. I do think he will be sold in the summer by pushing through a move. He did the same at Gillingham so if a team further up comes in I don't have much hope for loyalty. I don't think this team should accept bottom half as it's better individually then most teams in the bottom half. Would people accept Dack leaving if it meant a change of formation and four quality additions to the team? Could see a line up next year off. Raya Nyambe New Mulgrew Williams Reed New Rothwell New Graham/Brereton New I do think a commanding centre back could pull both Nyambe and Williams up a level or two. Which is why I'd peruse with them. But if money was left over. A new left back would be a position to look at as well. Think a centre back to lead the team at the back who loves defending and a centre midfielder who is a class above most in the league would more than cover for Dack if two wingers where added as well. I'd rather Dack was kept and added to any new signings though.
  8. This team lacks a Ryan Nelson style leader of a central defender who defends first over anything. It also lacks a commanding centre midfielder who can take control of a game. If those two positions could be sorted then this team could get top 6 without a doubt. Never going to blame the Brereton lad because he doesn't set his price at 7 million and I genuinely think he will be a very good player but to spend that kind of money on one player is naive. For 7 million you could have bought the best centre back in the league or the best centre midfielder. I'd be looking to replace Smallwood and Lenihan come the next window with them dropping to bench options along with Downing.
  9. If both Reed and Palmer left. Could the team not line up like the following? Raya Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Williams Smallwood/Rodwell Evans Rothwell/Bennet Dack Graham Brereton In a 41212 formation. It's narrow but with three battling midfielders it lets Dack play a free role. Can also change into 352 if Rodwell plays.
  10. Rhoades had 2+ seasons battering league 1 teams so had confidence coming into the club and was 4-5+ years older. Bellamy had played at the top level for a while so wasn't as unknown. Santa Cruz had been playing for Bayern and left because of a terrible injury record. Marshall had a terrible attitude problem at Leicester and they'd just signed Marhez to replace him. That was shown at Rovers where he eventually downed tools. Graham was at a Sunderland team where the club was in total decline and I think he was near the end of a contract as well. Dack had 1 year left and pretty much forced a move away from Gillingham because the biggest team in the league came calling. He would have been 2-3 million if circumstances where different and that's league 1 money. He's a championship England u21 regular striker. You wouldn't find anyone else for a lower price. Armstrong hasn't really pulled up any trees and Brereton in his short time on the pitch has scored two wrongly disallowed goals. 7 million today is the equivalent to 700 thousand 10 years ago. It's no one's fault except these stupid greedy owners of football clubs.
  11. Think anyone who has already decided on Brereton is doing so prematurely. He's a young lad who at 19 has had a full season at forest and 1/3 a season at Rovers. He doesn't look out of place at this level but does look nervous to impress and do well. You can see it in him when he comes on with odd passes and first touches every now and then. This might be to limited playing time and an idea that he feels he has 10-15 minutes per game to put his mark down. That's difficult for experience pros let alone a young lad. I think some had written Danny Graham off in league one after the first 8-10 games yet now he's holding his own in the championship. I think towards the midpoint of the season he will start to click into gear and going into next season will be one of the main players of the squad. If we've to give the league one team patience along with the manager then this guy deserves the same. He Is certainly no Leon Best put it that way and if Venkys want to buy young players all the better as in 2-3 seasons that's how a squad is built strongly.
  12. Wouldn't wind the following for the next match. Raya Nyambe Downing Mulgrew Williams Reed Smallwood Conway Dack Armstrong Graham Just to add a little pace on one side of the midfield. Evans hasn't done much wrong but I feel Reed is our best centre midfielder so needs to play. Can't drop Downing after a good performance and there's no one else to play at left back who deserves a go. Subs: Leutwiler, Lenihan, Bell, Bennet, Rodwell, Rothwell and Brereton Can't make a case for Palmer at the moment and I'd rather give match time even if it's from the bench to players belonging to us.
  13. Like to apologise pal for the post. I put it across to strong and made it an attack. Sorry for that. Agree with some of what you've said. I don't think Preston had an amazing game play to shut us down more so the lack of a focal point to play from. Wigan seemed like a lack of fight and idea. Conway was really good yesterday and I did say he was a cautious pick. I think a better thing to say would be. Imagine if we had a young Conway or two for both wide positions either side of Dack. The term expect to win was wrong as well but I do think any home game we should have a good chance of winning as that's where you target a good majority of points from. The Armstrong and Bennet line relates to the fact neither are out and out wingers. I do think the team has a top 10 - 8 base to build from with the spine of the team such as Raya, Mulgrew, Reed, Dack and Graham. Again like I said sorry for how it came across. I've been a Rovers fan all my life and remember the games in the prem and the cup game against Chelsea which were brilliant games. I just want to club back where it used to be as it never should have fallen to pieces like it did.
  14. The only real criticism of the manager from myself has been his odd team selections with the no striker formations and the such. If he doesn't drop the idea that he can be the Pep of the championship then any criticism that he gets would be justified. Yesterday's game was a great reminder that simple formations and players who specialise in their position gets you further than over thinking. Look at Leicester when they won the league. 2 strikers 2 wingers and a workmanlike team spirit. I'd like us to go down that route of Dack and Graham leading the line and 2 proper wingers out wide. It's effective and doable with players who can be limited and bar 3-4 in the squad. A lot of the players are limited in ability and understanding but give 100%
  15. Think you need to be careful with not getting ahead of yourself we played a very poorly managed Shefield Wednesday team who are bang out of form. Anyone including myself who have been critical of the manager have been justified in their opinion because the last few games have been diabolical. A victory yesterday should be EXPECTED at home, fair play for going out and doing it but let's calm down with the "I told you so's" Manager still has his job cut out for me. December could quiet easily go down the pan with no victories at all in the entire month. On the flip side it could boost us further up the league but to make that statement is very premature. Highlighted yesterday that a simple winger playing out wide impacts an entire team. Yet some would back the manager in playing the such as Reed, Armstrong in wide positions. That's down to the manager. I wouldn't be surprised if in the next game he'll play a different side with the such as Bennet and Armstrong out wide again.
  16. Fair play to the manager today. Got it right with his team. Conway showed why a simple winger or two effects the rest of the team in a positive way. Hopefully come January we can get a right winger and tall centre back in to balance the team Good result and hopefully can kick on again now with a few good results. Well done.
  17. Good first half. Need to score the next goal to finish the game off.
  18. You forgot the "Williams will switch off at left back and give a goal away" All seriousness though. If the manager changed it up and gave a few new lads a run out. Would anyone be calling him out on it if we lost? Say if he played this and said get into the opposition's face from minute 0 to minute 94 Raya Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Bell/Travis Reed Rodwell Rothwell Dack Palmer Brereton It's a shame Travis isn't left footed as I would generally play him over any of our left backs at the moment just for the energy and enthusiasm he'd bring.
  19. Think it's frustration as the manager is a nice enough guy but I don't get the risks he takes. Playing the such as Conway in a must win game is a risk. Watching the Leeds game and they've a player at the back called Phillips who was in their youth team 12-18 months ago. If the senior players aren't performing. I'd rather he take a risk or two on a Travis etc.... who could improve in the future. Is Bennet injured? Isn't he meant to be Mr Rovers at the moment?
  20. What's happened to this 2 and 1/2 attacker rule he lives by? There's only how attack minded players on the pitch. Poor at home. Still go for a 2-1 win in hope for the club more so than the manager. Wonder what odds you'd get for a Downing and Conway goal scorers. I'll trust the manager on this one as recently I've been critical of him. Hope he's got it right.
  21. Gonna go with a 2-1 win. They can't defend. We can't score so could be any score really. Think the team will be the following. Raya Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Williams Smallwood Reed Bennet Dack Palmer Graham Think you can make an argument for a few not justifying their position but from the managers perspective that's what I think he will go with. Would like Brereton to start just because you don't know what you'll get from him and a bit of a live wire. Could score a worldie, could miss an open goal but you know some of the team are bang out of form Wouldn't mind Rodwell starting for Smallwood either just because he's a better player and would do the same job.
  22. Think the timing is due to supporter unrest and rightly so with some of the peculiar decisions. He could be gone in the next 5-6 games so it's all well and good thinking it's great but I'd rather a consistent manager getting results than a "Good guy with integrity" football isn't like any other job. You can be here and gone in days.
  23. Sign Ashley Cole and you'll have a Danny Murphy mk2. Then you'll have supporters moaning that we are wasting money and poor management is happening. After all that you'll have the usual "Whose his agent" line thrown out and the "Not the managers signing" any transfers need to be realistic AND useful. Best players from league 1 along with fringe players from the premiership is the way to go.
  24. Think your missing the point. I'm saying they are the 4 changes that the manager will make. Whether they are the correct ones or not will be seen after the game.
  25. If we are being realistic then he's never going to drop Dack. I think he possibly has a high amount of power and influence in the dressing room. If he's said 4 changes then it's going to be something like this Raya Nyambe Lenihan Mulgrew Williams Evans Reed Bennet Dack Palmer Graham Lenihan, Williams, Bennet and Palmer in as the 4 changes.
