  1. Hats off to Trav at right back, saved a certain equaliser first half when covering for Wharton. At left back we had the ever dependable Harry Pickering, proper player. Kaminski, Wharton and Hyam solid as a rock in the middle. Hyam is turning out to be a brilliant signing, and so important that Ayala can chill for a bit. Definitely a day for defensive plaudits, which started with Szmodics, Brereton and Gallagher. Vale did a good job when he came on down the right.

  3. I say it every game, there's a fag paper between most teams in the Championship, look no further than yours and our matches against Brum these past couple of weeks. So much depends on the timing of matches, it seems to matter more in this division than the others, teams blow so hot and cold. It will be an intriguing match, Burnley obviously crave the possession, I'm sure Rovers will be more than happy to oblige, being happier without the ball.
  4. Their older players may have more experience in years, but only one of them has anywhere near the knowledge of our younger players of what is at stake. I can't imagine anyone needing to tell the Wharton's what is expected. That intensity can, of course, work both ways. We can't afford many early yellows, and definitely not reds.
  5. It'll be intriguing. Watching them last night I was thinking that they play exactly how Rovers would want them to play, there's joy to be had on the break. Stating the obvious, you'd think first goal will be crucial.
  6. It's a good question, I keep saying I'm waiting for us to click and play well, even over a full 90 minutes. Eventually either the results will suffer, you can't keep hanging on in games and winning,or the results will bring with them more quality to the performance. At the moment, what we are good at is getting the 3 points when we go in front. Long may it continue, it's a lot easier for Tomasson to do whatever it is he wants to do nearer the top than the bottom. Being booed off at half time against Millwall, yet finishing the day in the top 6 is evidence enough.
  7. It's the local midfield lads I'm pinning my hopes on. I'm hoping the Wharton's, Buckley and Travis and all those other young lads who have grown up around the club, let the others know in no uncertain terms what is at stake.
  8. Signed in a double deal with Steve Livingston.
  9. We weren't playing well when we scored and we're not really playing well in general, but getting results. Burnley fans I know keep bemoaning dropping 10 points from winning positions,so I tell em we've lost 7 games, think about that. I keep waiting for us to click, but it isn't quite happening over a full 90 minutes.
  10. Great win with a fantastic goal (again), and it was nearly bettered by Hedges. All round team performance tonight, but we were all hailing Hyam as a brilliant bit of business at half time, and a nice break for Ayala. Top of the league and I'm still waiting for us to really click. Someone's going to get panned when we do.
  11. Definitely. The goals from midfield has been a problem for many a season. Let's hope Szmodics and Hedges can deliver.
  12. In my original post, I actually said I've a feeling tomorrow could be the night for Szmodics.
  13. Half of Tomasson's(only 6) signings can hardly get a kick in one of the youngest teams in the division, which could go top tomorrow after 16 games in. The evidence is there, whether you accept it is up to you. Thankfully the "he's left us in the brown stuff" comments have turned out to be unfounded, and have actually subsided. I sometimes think there would be more fans happier if we were in a relegation battle, rather than threatening the top spot.
  14. I'll clap him, then hope we pick up another 3 points. He was right man at the right time for Rovers, and left us in good shape. Could be the night for Szmodics to cement his place.
  15. Burnley's game in hand is against Norwich so they can't both win. I was just making the point that we haven't exactly pulled up any trees and we're a point off top. It's probably the weakest championship for a good while.
  16. It's definitely doable, saying earlier that we're a point off top and we haven't even begun to click and play well.
  17. We're a work in progress, but it's much easier to do that work at the top end. Keep waiting for us to click,it seems mad saying that when we're a point off top. If we could hit any kind of consistency, we'd be a force to be reckoned with in this league.
  18. Youngsters pretending that they've invented the game. Expected bollox.
  19. On the way there, radio Lancs said it's our best start for 10 seasons, and that is the conundrum. You don't fluke 7 wins out of 14, there's something there, it just needs to be shown more frequently.
  20. I'm pretty sure Ayala knows himself if he needs a night off, Tomasson will let him be the judge.
  21. You'd imagine that we would be better set up to play away from home, on the break like the 2nd half yesterday.
  22. I can see you getting half top tier and half bottom. Can't imagine you'll get the full end if it's still open to make your own way there.
  23. Nice win, some excellent performances, so nice to see Pickering back to his best, you can tell he really feels it. Might be a few tales coming out of the dressing room, Dack sulked off down the tunnel and it looked very much like Tomasson went after him.
  24. It will go one of two ways, either results will drop off because of the poor performances, or performances will improve in line with carrying on picking up points. Let's hope it's the latter starting tomorrow.
