You get really defensive about being perceived as negative, or your posts being perceived as negative. You then try to shut down debate by accusing people of calling you negative when it hasn't actually happened. It's all a bit odd. I can't be arsed looking for specific posts, but the season was written off by one particular poster after a couple of losses as we could 'only finish mid-table', like that was a bad thing. Another one called for the manager's head a couple of week's ago. There were others. -

You were complaining about Brittain playing RW. Tanner is a RW. So, yes, he would have got in our starting XI. Robinson is a better striker than Dolan. Meite is a better striker than Dolan. I'm surprised you're surprised. JDT started last season playing a defensive low block. It was something they worked on in summer of 2022. It was a clear tactic to win points early on as he assessed the squad and got them playing the way he wanted. He said as much. Quite pragmatic for such a 'naïve' coach. The team then evolved in the 2nd half of last season and we started playing better football. Again this was something he said would happen. This season we have evolved again. Some of the football has been fantastic. Sadly, we haven't had the rub of the green. The 'naive' coach has therefore once again adopted a more pragmatic approach very early in the season to get points on the board. You can bet your bottom dollar that as the season progresses and results stabilise we will start becoming a bit more attacking again. You'd have to be 'naive' to look at JDT's tenure to date and think he's anything but a very talented, pragmatic coach. -

Well said, the expectations from some on here are absolutely ludicrous. We play in a competitive league, one in which we have one of the smallest budgets. The manager can't win. If we try and play exciting, attacking football the detractors call JDT 'naïve' (even though we outplayed nearly everyone, and with a bit more luck would have won more games and been a lot higher in the table). If we revert to the football of the first half of last season it's 'dull'. JDT doesn't have the luxury of a fit Dack, Armstrong or Brereton to bang in the goals. He hasn't even got a fit striker to choose from. He's playing a RB on the wing, and another RB in CM. He's playing a diminutive winger at CF. Most of the attackers on Cardiff's bench yesterday would have got in our first team. If we finish mid-table we'll have done well. But some have thrown their toys out already and said that isn't good enough. Absolutely fooking bizarre! -

Alf was the one that Caine gave a slap to and said 'you're a big man but you're out of shape'. Classic line. -

He had a voice anyway as a public figure. I haven't heard the interview with RL, but if Coleman and Bell have criticised the owner publicly then Holt has every right to reply in kind. That's democracy! -

Saw a graphic that they were the 10th biggest spenders in world football this summer. The graphic included some Saudi teams so about the 6th or 7th biggest spenders in Europe. Think the figure they spent was £120m. The issue with Burnley iirc was the way the new owners have funded the purchase, mortgaging the club to the hilt basically. They'll probably be fine if they stay in the Prem, but think the issues will come if they go down and stay down for a couple of seasons.

Blackburn Rovers 1-0 Cardiff City | Championship highlights | Video | Watch TV Show | Sky Sports Underrated pass from Dolan. Hardly a simple 10 yard ball. Did it again when he put JRC in who then played in Ennis. JRC might well be the the new Super Atko with those runs from deep. -
It was easy for Burnley last season. they had the biggest budget and the best players. This season is a true test of their manager and he's failing at the moment. They look a soft touch who can only play one way. Not sure what they spent £120m on in the summer but it hasn't improved them from the bits of them I've seen.

Yeah, he threw one in from in front of the JW in the first half which reached the penalty spot. Naturally, like all our set-pieces, we failed to get a head on it! -

Having our 3 striker injured at the same team is very unlucky. The other one, Telalovic, is obviously a work in progress. Thought Meite looked a real handful when he came on, big, strong and quick. Yes, they were all excellent. Wharton was played there (DM) because nobody else could (until Tronstad was ready). Travis couldn't do it last season and Garrett looks like he is being used in the 8 role when playing in the cup. I agree about playing him further forward. No reason he can't play where JRC and Travis have been playing, or even as a No10. Nobody else in the team can pick a pass like AW. I'd imagine players like Leonard, Szmodics and Ennis who make good runs would love AW playing further forward. -

The BBE did have a few more gaps than normal, maybe a few ST holders gave it a miss. -

Brought him up pre-match. Good player. Big unit too. He's just signed a long-term deal. He was poor for the most part. Excellent pass for the goal though. -

That was like a throwback to this time last season - poor performance but ground out a 1-0 win. Cardiff were a big, strong team. As predicted, they were very much safety first. They only really started to threaten when they brought Meite and Tanner on and started getting the ball forward quicker in the last half hour. Credit to Dolan, thought he was poor, but he kept going and produced the pass of the match. Excellent run by JRC to get on the end of the pass. Credit also to Leo, was right behind that shot from Tanner on about 80 mins, it was going in and it really was a fantastic fingertip save. Thought the back four were excellent. Hill's passing was poor at times but thought he defended really well. Hyam and Carter were back to their best and I thought Pickering handled the threat of Josh Bowler well. Thought Tronstad was generally good, protected the back four and kept the ball moving. Bit of an off day for the likes of Siggy and Szmodics, but there wasn't much room to play. Delighted for JDT. He's gone back to basics a bit after not getting the result our performances deserved when we lost 4 in a row. We finally got a bit of luck too with the disallowed goal. Important win. -

Good effort selling out that many 10 days before the match. Looked it up and it is a minimum of 10% of ground capacity for the away allocation in the League Cup. Looks like we didn't take it, but must have been offered it as those are the rules. 15% minimum in the FA Cup Waggott's never understood the fan base. He didn't understand the 29k-ish home fans against Oxford in L1, and he doesn't understand quickly selling out 3k away to Chelsea. -

Reading up on Cardiff it seems their new Turkish manager favours the cautious approach, lots of men behind the ball etc. If true, and they do take a safety-first approach, it might be a long afternoon of seeing us try to break them down. We aren't normally very good at that. First goal will be as important as ever. Up front they have some good players - Karlem Grant, Meite (ex-Reading) and Josh Bowler. That's a good Championship forward line. Not sure Bowler's been playing much because they have young right winger called Tanner who looks decent. Watched them against Swansea and he came on and changed the game. Aaron Ramsey is out for a while so that will be a blow to them. Their manager is also a bit of a taskmaster. He called out Callum Robinson and some other player in this week's press conference for not pulling their weight. JDT is hamstrung by again not having a fit striker (Telalovic notwithstanding). I'd be tempted to play Szmodics up front. I'd also play Wharton further up the pitch. -Wahlsted Hill-------Carter-----Hyam-----Pickering Tronstad Markanday---JRC .... Wharton..... Sigurdsson --Szmodics- 2-1 Rovers win. Att: 12800 -

Yes you can, because if you score first you aren't chasing the game. Pretty basic stuff. -

I thought he looked decent first game of the season at home, just off the pace. He also passed sideways a lot. He played safe basically. JDT said recently in an interview that Tronny needed to pass forward more. In midweek he looked a totally different player when he came on, every time he got the ball he looked to pass forward. He looks an old fashioned schemer to me, a No4 in old money, like Batty or Barker. Hopefully he nails down the DM role and that allows Wharton to play a bit higher where he can hurt the opposition more with his through balls. -

In all the 4 games prior to QPR we could have easily have got something from. We didn't because we didn't take our chances or were robbed by the ref. Scoring first also has a huge impact in the majority of Championship games. Score first and you rarely lose. Yesterday we score first and romped home. It would be naïve to think the manager is naïve. -
