[Archived] Rovers V Birmingham 3-3 (phew)
broadsword replied to cn174's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
1-0 Rovers, Thompson scores. Loved the quote about Dunn being a fat get who cant put his socks on without getting injured! -
RIF? What the hell's that? America is the land of the free ... market. Everything is dictated by that. Reminiscent of Norman Tebbit's "get on yer bike" speech, methinks. Funnily enough I work for an American firm, and they announced last year that they were making people redundant after merging with another firm ... but didn't say who was leaving for weeks and weeks. Did wonders for morale! I'm still here luckily, but it's still a blot on the horizon, you never know when they might pull the same stunt. Think the answer is to keep your CV looking good. If the boss knows he's going to sack you two weeks in advance of telling you then he's not teh sort of boss I want to work for. It's a two fingers job, and go and find a decent employer. Probably outside of the US! "grow up", "get with the program", "smell the coff-eee", "coming down the pipe", "having 'issues'", urgh, I want to sit down and try to forget about all that jazz!

[Archived] Poor Old Souness, players bite back

That's true. Anyone looks fast next to him. Having speedy defenders as an assurance against leaking goals is a misconception methinks. Organisation and reading play is so much more important I think. -

Where does this utterly daft preconception come from that Short is slow?! He ain't! -
Although I agree that there should be no sacred cows at Ewood, and we cannot afford to give Tony a token coaching role, the whole sacking saga seems to me reminiscent of the unhappy ship we had when Rovers were last relegated. OK, so team spirit is better, but this is the sort of clanger that would've been dropped in teh Kidd era. The impression I had from John Williams' comments was that it was a provisional agreement to terminate Tony's contract that was made on the Tuesday and that it was rubber-stamped the day before Tony was due to be told. If that is true then they needed to have acted earlier and there MUST be a way of finding out who leaked this information. It's just not good enough to brush it under the carpet and move on. Hughes has done a good job in polishing a turd, but teh team still has problems, big ones, we're in danger of being left adrift in the bottom 3 (look at the table if you dont believe me!), and can't bring any players in for another 6 weeks. Perhaps this could've been left until the end of the season, especially as I can't imagine the benefits being reaped immediately. How many kids would you want to draft in to a relegation battle? All a little bit sad.

[Archived] Manchester City 1-1 Post Match Stuff

Well, unbeaten for three games, another late equaliser, must mean our fitness isnt bad. And off the bottom, so good for morale. But no disguising the fact our problems haven't been solved, we still cant score more than we concede (and we almost always concede ...). Been a problem for a year now, should have been sorted by now (mentioning no names, Graeme!) -
If we could see past the "Tony is a great servant" stuff for a sec (well-intentioned and deserving though it is), can we please not lose sight of teh fact that Rovers have agreed to termnate the contract of teh reserve team coach. If it wasn't for the years of service it'd be completely unremarkable. Yes, it looks shabby, and I bet the board wish they'd done things differently. But that's it. No-one's died.

Almost?! Does that mean there was a slim chance that he could have been there for all perpetuity? Maybe if he wasn't immortal they'd have put him in a giant jar, filled it with aspic and kept him in the boardroom.
-
Now the LET is saying that Parkes met Hughes yesterday and was sacked by him. The Sun leaked information that Hughes met Parkes yesterday and sacked him ... so how could Parkes learn of his sacking via the Sun, unless the report is wrong or TP wasn't paying attention?!

Matteo's back in the squad! -
Full article here.

I certainly don't have a problem with him, I think he's top man. He's done a lot for the club (including saving us from almost certain relegation), and I think we should all be grateful for his work. He had to go at some point though. Nobody stays at a club forever, but not many stay at a club for 30 years (certainly not in the modern era), and I'm sure Tony will look back with great fondness on his time here. Sparky Marky Ewood Parky is his own man, and I'm sure he's doing this for all the right reasons. Perhaps Tony felt his place here was so assured it was rubbing off on some of the players and they were taking things for granted? Who knows? In any case TP's place in the panthenon of Ewood Greats is assured, and the Ewood Revolution rolls on.

What?! Hughes is allowed to pick his own back room staff. He can't allow sentiment to come into it, he has to pick who he thinks is the best man for the job. There ain't half some twaddle talked on this MB!
-
I wonder whether you'd get the job if you turned up in Stone River Island Dungarees (or whatever), A £35 Paul Smith T-shirt (with the slogan "Please fleece me, I have more money than sense!") and a Burberry check cod-piece you'd get the job? What a load of bull. People are impressed if you look smart and talk smart, and have enough spare change from your clothes shopping to get them a beer in!
-
I don't buy designer gear (not the labels worn by hooligans anyway), but neither do I shop at Burtons or River Island! If you're prepared to look around you can find some decent gear without having to pay through the nose for it. I didn't realise Blackburn was sufficently affluent for hoardes of young lads to go around dressed in identikit designer gear? I'm sorry, but it does smack of snobbery.
-
Really? Because I thought that a lot fo designers actually did work for High Street chains? I doubt people buy designer clothes to be thrifty, more a case of them wanting to flash off.
-
Maybe these dudes have Stoneman's Disease, where your joints ossify and you're frozen in a standing position? Dunno about Burberry, but I wore a bilberry on my head last week - everyone thought I was a fruit. Be warned, people are very judgemental.
-
What?! Dunn can only be 2 years younger than Ferguson. David Dunn is a fat perpetually-injured big-headed delusional git. He couldn't learn if he was playing next to Pele.

I voted Latheron, but am prepared to tactically recast my vote in favour of Forrest to stop Sherwood getting in.
-
Hmmm ... including Forrest has split the vote and could result in Sherwood creeping in! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
-
I've got no problems with that either. It's natural.
-
So you assume people are happy for you to stand up in front of them unless told otherwise? How convenient!

Something that's never made sense to me either! Maybe it's some deranged way of saving tax-payers' money. Although surely the economic cost of dealing with these people once they've reoffended is greater than the cost of keeping them locked up. To say nothing of the emotional and social costs ... -
Vote Sherwood for a lack of imagination and an inability to see past your nose.
