  1. Waste of £2m he's a crock - forget about him, Hughes will spend the money better unearthing a gem.
  2. "Let us not remember the low points and instead pay tribute to one of the greatest footballers of all-time." I hope that everyone involved with football will pay their respects to a man who was sporting legend. Forget the rest.
  3. Fair enough. Lets see how it goes over the meduim term. Just expressing my personal opinion which I fully accept is very idealistic but every group has to have its fair share of dreamers.....
  4. Completely agree and am not advocating BRFC becomes a martyr for the good of football. I simply want the club to speak up on our behalf (our voice is louder than 72 others). Speaking out against these issues doesn't put the club at risk - it shows that not every club agrees with the party line. Again fully supportive of the progressing issues with FSF as well.
  5. Just ignore him and stay on topic - if you respond to him your just letting him achieve his sad little goal. He gets off on the abuse. Better idea start a new poll "should Vinjay be banned", 99.9% yes vote would give the admins something to think about.
  6. Thanks for the detailed reply, Yes perhaps my ambitions are lofty however John Williams is one of twenty people in football who can make sweeping dramatic changes to the game, I know one man alone cant achieve it - but is it too much to ask to expect him to raise the questions at the PL/FA meetings to put it on the agenda instead of dismissing it as a not going to happen. In the past people couldn't see a day when white and black people would not be segregated on busses or a day when Russia and America could be considered allies - but the ‘it wont happen so what’s the point asking the question’ attitude stinks in my opinion. OK so John W and Tom F are nice guys - great, the management of the club can be said to be reasonably sound but its not fantastic is it - we still run at a loss and we seem to be bleeding fans faster than most - where as teams such as Bolton and Charlton are managing the situation better in my opinion (i.e. secure in PL and posting profits). A word of warning there, a dialogue with the club is "nice to have" not an essential, BRISA is a consumer pressure group its power lies in representing the supporter - worrying about whether Finn and Williams are going to discontinue their cosy chats with the committee if the questions get a bit 'unstructured' or 'difficult' concerns me. They should be grateful you (representing – we) turn up to talk to them not the other way round (remember who is the customer). As I have said my disappointment lies predominantly with the club, however I accept (albeit reluctantly) they have to balance the fans “wants” with the demands of the other PL clubs, their investors and the paymaster general – Sky. Let’s see how supportive Williams and Finn are when you start trying to do things that don’t have the goal of increasing revenue for the club – but I’m sure they will be all very nice in saying no. All for joining the national level supporters groups to leverage additional pressure. My expectations unrealistic – I’m sorry you guys think so.
  7. Must admit to been disapointed with the outcome of the first meeting I see they dangled the FF carrot by offering top secret info if you didn't publish the minutes... nice try....... although.... "It was also suggested the committee might want to discuss it’s overall policy in this area" - care to elaborate? 1) The club have skirted around a lot of the issues providing no new information relating to who actually owns BRFC and what thier intentions are. Is it me or is standing also considered a "will not happen" issue as this does not warrant a mention. 2) The attitude towards salary caps as a "will not happen" shows to me how in the box John Williams thinking is - why will it not happen because those that can actually do it - like 1 of the 20 premier league club chairmen haven't got the balls to stand up and make it happen. It only takes a small spark to start the biggest inferno. 3) My feeling is the club are interested in one thing and one thing only - how can we get more cash out of these people. They are not interested in working with us to implement safe standing, salary caps, changing KO times or any other issues that would upset the "apple cart" at FA/Sky/PL HQ. A big disapointment. No reflection on the BRISA people though.
  8. Oh yeah cause they don’t speak German in Switzerland do they? The fact that native Swiss is middle age German isn't going to give them a taste? So they predominantly speak French in Geneva - show me one resident who doesn't also speak English and German as well and I will be impressed. In terms of acclimatization for Germany you can't get much closer than Switzerland..... but hey what do us sub 5000 posters know????
  9. Separate ethnic end? Glad too see the Asian community pushing those cultural integration messages.... as for the frightened comments.... the kids to seem to be ok - you see babies in the BBE now for god’s sake. A lot of people fought long and hard to end the segregation of people based on the colour of their skin (note the death of one such lady this week) this is the most stupid suggestion I have ever heard and quite frankly I'm shocked and dismayed if the story of the Asian community leaders approaching the club asking for a segregated stand is true.
  10. In my opinion the lack of atmosphere can be attributed to the changing demographic of the fans coming through the turnstile. You simply cant afford to come anymore if you earn minimum wage (i.e. a lot of the young lads in Blackburn) and the family atmosphere that now predominates around the ground means that tanked up "die hard singers" effect has been somewhat diluted. Now it’s a case of the team motivating the crowd rather than the other way around. Packing the affluent young families closer together won’t create more atmosphere if nothing is happening on the pitch. My opinion is low ticket prices against a reasonably high profile team were the motivators around the improved atmosphere not BBE upper been closed. However once again I must state for the sensitive types this is only an opinion.
  11. I an ideal world we would have both. We are no better than last season without Bellamy which is happening a lot unfortunatley... but in my opinion half a Craig Bellamy is better than taking a risk on a very expensive unproven Benni.
  12. On that one "No comment" - which granted is somewhat defeatist. Walked into that one - unfortunately not, while I am in admiration of those who have got off their arse's and got BRISA going, the arena of politics is not for me. You have however signed up another member. The answers were honest and that’s good enough for me.
  13. Firstly I think BRISA is a good idea and commend those who have worked very hard to get it off the ground - well done. But now your asking for cash - so for my fiver answer me this:- I see BRISA already has a spokesperson, necessary I agree. Now who decides what the BRISA line is going to be after all one thing that visiting this board has told me is that not all Rovers fans agree. One example and I choose this as it is recent and contentious - "The Cisse leg chant" - what would have been BRISA's opinion when contacted by the daily mirror regarding those "sick" chants? I don’t see how one organisation can represent the views of all the fans and I'm concerned that the more PC members of the board tend to be more "get up and go types" and hence are likely to be the ones wielding the power within BRISA - that said I accept that it is a fully democratic forum and if that situation occurs then its the fault of those reluctant individuals. I will however say that efforts should be made to engage and be representative of the reluctant and I hope BRISA operates with more tolerance than the message board.
  14. I feel a lot more confident in facing those teams now than I did a month ago, a run of good results and a returning Craig Bellamy leads me to think that we are a match for anyone. Teams like Charlton and Man City are no different to us, just having a 'good' spell like Everton last season. 4 games with a return > 4 points is my bet. The Chelsea fixture will be interesting.
  15. I bet you now none of these games make it to "free" TV. 1 to NTL/Telewest (pay par view) 4 to SKY (pay par view / subscription) and probably a 20% drop in the total amount gained. I doubt there is anything for the fans in this 'deal'.
  16. I actually think there is some consensus in this thread believe it or not. Most people agree the taunts were unintelligent and not perpetrated by the masses. To my mind what is stimulating the debate is the question "is it such a big deal?" I am of the opinion it isn't such a big deal others think differently, to be honest I respect that and doubt I can do anything to change their minds. What is worrying though and I get the feeling for many others where do you draw the line? most people don’t want to see a time when we cant all sing out in unison "I hate burnley ba*t*rds to my dying day" just cause it offends a minority of football fans. But interestingly there is another topic on this board called "Sick" and for me it puts into perspective what sick really means and perhaps in terms of morality we have bigger battles to fight. http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php?showtopic=12886
  17. It is Lucas and if I remember rightly what you see there was a perfectly timed crucial tackle but the picture suggests otherwise. A great example of how pictures can be used to make something look a lot worse than it was.
  18. Ok everyone who signed up in the last year leave now Scotty doesn't like a more inclusive message board. Your entitled to your opinion just like EVERYONE else, try not to be so bat and ball about it. Stand up speak out Does the world think we all make monkey chants - people around football realise that some unsavory elements follow the game as well as some happy clapping range rover types. Its a case of having some tolerance for me, I don’t get to hand pick who follows my team. Although I think monkey chants are in a different league to an injury wind up (just remember it all ended happily he kept his leg, he DIDN'T lose it - now that would be sick and you would have a greater consensus on the board). Sounds like a job for BRISA, it could be used to run the chavs out of the away following perhaps? After all they are not OUR sort are they? I don’t want to antagonize I just think people are entitled to express an opinion without been called "infections", "unintelligent" or "immoral" just because that opinion varies from yours. Unbounded morality ultimately becomes counterproductive even in terms of the same moral principles being sought. The law of diminishing returns applies to morality. - Thomas Sowell
  19. My thoughts on the subject http://www.brfcs.co.uk/mb/index.php?showtopic=12819&st=246 This topic has been debated at length in the liverpool thread, hardly think there was need to start another.
  20. The term "sick" to me is a very serious term used to describe individuals who commit heinous crimes such as rape, murder or child abuse. Don’t go over the top, yes they were mindless chants but anybody who takes football chanting seriously is a Muppet. Chants were devised for one purpose and one purpose only - to wind up the opposition. Don't blow it all out of proportion; if Cisse hadn't scored I doubt it would have got more than a passing mention after all suggesting the people of Burnley are incestuous might be considered "sick" by many.... if of course it wasn't true.
  21. On the result - shame we couldn't hold out for a point but to do that you need an outlet up front otherwise its just a case of giving the ball away. We didn’t have that yesterday. On the chants, should we go and be supportive of the other team in the vain hope they will like us and gift us a win - don’t be so ridiculous it’s the job of the traveling support to wind up the opposing team and fans that’s what creates something that has been devoid for a while "atmosphere". To suggest that the chants however unpalatable cost us a point is the most stupid thing I have read in a long time. If Cisse didn't go on that pitch wanting to score and beat us then he should have his head amputated not his leg! What next no more singing songs that have expletives in? or lets not try to sing at all after all we don’t want to upset the opposition now do we?
  22. Blackburn 0-0 Liverpool My logic is that I have been wrong with the score every time this season so at least its not going to be 0-0. Flawed logic I know.... I think we might be able to sneak something here.
  23. Gas, Electricity, Water, Food, Kids new shoes..... fags, booze..... broadband internet conection....... coat for the dog...... silly halloween decorations.... Does it really matter £48 is wrong. Like I said its a free world anyone who is flush enough and foolish enough to pay it - go ahead but not me.
