  1. My take on the “ optimum thread “ - maybe we won’t go down this season.
  2. He might be ok played right up front with another striker but out wide left ? Not for me.
  3. Definitely. We play in front of teams all the time. The one time we got around the side of Watford we scored.
  4. In the first half Siggy was out wide left more often than not. Right in front of me actually. I agree about us not having a pop. We were trying to score the perfect goal. They had a pop from distance twice and got lucky twice.
  5. Bobby Bland - Turn On Your Lovelight
  6. Yeah, I saw that. That was a real limp.
  7. We need to get a goal threat from somewhere. This one up front isn’t the answer. Carry on like this and the better footballing teams will out football us and the ale house teams will out battle us. Maybe a move to 4-4-2 and be a bit more direct until we get a full compliment of players back.
  8. Of course it’s not his fault. If Gally, Dolan and Hedges were fit he wouldn’t even be on the bench.
  9. Killed once more by having no bench to change the direction of the game. Plus we knew before the game Hyam and Ennis would have to be subbed at around the hour mark. So we would have to shuffle the side at a crucial moment of the game. Their subs made our lads look like they were running backwards. Especially when they were running from midfield in the last half of the second half. We were taking it stood still, they were running. At the end we were tip tapping it around until we lost the ball, either in our own half or in theirs. Tip tap for a dozen passes in our last third then launch it long to nobody. Our ability to retain possession fell off a cliff at the end. Tiredness ? Probably. The keeper ? Not for me. How long is Pears out for ? Carter, did ok in a false position. My grandson said “ why didn’t we move Carter over when Hyam went off and play Hill at right back ? “ Good question. At least Carter was up to speed. Hyam, played well considering. Wharton, played well. Travis, did manfully in a false position for him Tronstad, did well in his usual measured way. Wharton, our best player, class act, scored a terrific goal, limped off at the end. Moran, a boy in a man’s game. Garrett, got stuck in as per usual. Ennis, at the moment a blunt instrument. Just a big lad. I’ll give him time but it’s not looking good at the moment. Siggy, the lad isn’t a left winger. He’s wasted out there, he isn’t quick enough. He never beat the full back once. Subs Hill, not at his best. Leonard, see Moran. Markanday, brought on for time added on, really JDT ?
  10. Our home form is relegation form.
  11. Running football beats walking football every time..
  12. Lose today at Fulham and their board are going to have a decision to make.
  13. Yeah the weather has been shocking up here for the last few days, in fact I can’t remember a wetter Autumn/run up to Xmas. That’s bound to affect walk ons. I’m not looking forward to coming over on the train from Rochdale if it’s still pissing down.
  14. Well each of them went for a record fee between two British clubs in their respective positions. Fred was the most expensive player in any position. Only Jimmy Greaves and Denis Law had been sold for more and they came back from Italian clubs. Mike was the most expensive centre half and Keith was the most expensive full back. So work that out. My guess, £100 million for Fred, £75 million for Mike, £40 million for Keith.
  15. Leonard ? I’m sorry but that’s like playing with 10 players.
  16. I usually walked from the Boulevard unless it was pissing down or I was late. I remember waiting by that bus stop near Bill Eckersley’s old shop at the ground to get autographs. Fred Pickering, Keith Newton and Mike England jumped off once. Imagine that now, First Division footballers going to the game on public transport !
  17. I don’t think anybody on or off the pitch knew for sure that all the ball was over all the line. Having said that Roger Hunt, who was very near to the ball, seemed pretty certain.
  18. Maxine Brown - Oh No Not My Baby
  19. Clarence “ Frogman “ Henry - A’int Got No Home
  20. It’d be nice to have a Kuqi or a Dickov up front these days.
  21. It’s difficult at this time of year. Too many other things to do for lots of people.
