One of the papers she marked was from a player who was an England schoolboy international on Preston’s books and his agent was agitating for him to move to London and sign for Spurs. That was the decision he had to make. The lad was still at school and he already had an agent ! The lad decided to stay at Preston and he went on to have a long career in pro football without ever reaching the highest level. I’ll bet he’s very wealthy now.

One for the old timers - Chris Crowe. Bought as a replacement for Roy Vernon. Not fit to lace his boots unfortunately. We sold him at a loss to Wolves and he ended up getting an England cap !

Mm, he didn’t manage to keep us in this league in his first season. Having said that he manage to keep us in it nicely after we came back up.

I’ve been given a nicely framed aerial photo of the new Ewood Park. Taken at an angle from over the Jack Walker stand. It used to be in “ The Bull’s Head “ in Smallbridge, Rochdale. It measures 22” x 18”. It’s going free to the first taker. It must be picked up from my home in Rochdale. A good Xmas gift for someone.
