Of all the players in the squad Dolan would have been the last one I’d have tried out at right back. -

Bryan Clough said after signing Peter Shilton for a record fee “ Nobody can lose you a game quicker than your goalkeeper, that’s why I want the best.” -

I remember playing in one game were our goalkeeper flung himself full length horizontally to catch a shot in both hands. It was a jaw dropping save. As he was still in midair he tried to clutch the ball to his midriff and accidentally threw the ball into the back of the net. Even the ref was laughing. This was a lad who later played pro for Rochdale and, funnily enough, Wigan. -

Been playing and watching since 1961. I’ve lost count of how many goals I’ve seen. That goalkeeping error for the second goal was a new one for me. It was as though the ref had blown up for a foul and play had stopped. Could be a career ending performance. -

If he did he’s deluded. There is no loyalty in football. -

There is absolutely no guarantee that Dack will reach his previous standard of play. Even if he does it won’t be in the next month or so. -

It’s all very well saying this Dutch lad can replace Nyambe and Souttar can Lenihan. Maybe Hedges is coming in for Rothwell also. It takes time to assimilate a player into the team and get them used to our style. Assimilating three players is even more of a ask. I appreciate we can’t make players stay who want to leave but wiser councils need to get involved in this. -

I think Tony would rather play Buckley at right back before he’d throw either of JRC or The Godfather of Soul in on Saturday -

I’ve been thinking about that ever since that game. I think the conditions didn’t help us but having said that we may get similar conditions again before the end of the season. We need a plan B for games like that. When we’ve played our football for 60-70 minutes and it’s not working. We need a game changer. I’d have been tempted to bring Ayala on and stick Van Hecke up front and see how they dealt with a bit of ale house style football. Failing that we need a Berkovic/Bohinen type of player who can open doors. A more experienced/crafty version of Buckley that can come on a give us a good 30 minutes of subtlety in the last third. -

I know they usually go together but it’s not just winning football, it’s entertaining football. -

He’s still poor in the air for me. He can’t get off the ground very well and where the ball goes when he does make contact is any bodies guess. I’ve played with amateur players that were 10 times better at heading the ball. I agree regarding the one on one, he’s terrific in that respect. -

If you think his heading has improved you are seeing something I’m not. If he could head the ball he’d be a candidate for playing on the right hand side of a back three. -

I don’t think JRC is ready fitness wise and if we’re going to play Gallagher at least play him up the middle instead of out on the wing. -
Supposedly, if you believe the daily papers. He’s a top class player but is he the man for a relegation scrap ?
