Let’s see how he goes on at Sunderland.

Sam Szmodics-Your thoughts?

Not by me. Grealish was always a cut above Brad. -

We’ve tended to follow good performances up with indifferent ones in the past. Especially in a Weds-Sat format. I’d take any sort of a win today. Bristol are no mugs and they managed to steal all three points in last seasons death spiral if my memory serves me well. I’ll go for Rovers 2-1. -
The Fringe is fantastic. My idea of the best holiday ever but my wife prefers rural Spain. I haven’t been for a few years now and I believe accommodation has got very expensive. We used to stay at the Uni halls of residence. Cheap and cheerful. As you’re out all the time you only need somewhere to sleep.

Would you like to see Dolan playing there again then , like today for example ? -
It was indicative of his attitude. The man isn’t a winner.

Forgotten Players

I though he was a decent player. My memory of him is being played out of position at left back when he was really a left sided centre half. Things like that never end well. Apart from Maldini there aren’t many who can play both positions and look a natural. -

Best winger I ever saw. He could run backwards faster than most players could run forwards. -

It’s crap playing in a position you’re unsuited to. Fair play to Dolan for giving it a go, especially in the games were the service to the front hasn’t been great. Having said that I don’t really think the experiment has worked. -

The cause of my most embarrassing moment in football. My youngest son and I were waiting for autographs outside the main stand. Jeff Kenna had just made his debut and had played well. I thought I saw him coming out so I said “ Well played Jeff, can my son have your autograph ? “ He replied “ You can have my autograph but I’m not Jeff “. When I looked at the autograph it was Tony Gale ! They do look a bit similar in my defence. -
It looked like Buckley started thinking “ this game is easy “ after a pretty good season last time out. It’s only easy when your hard work has made it easy. If he doesn’t learn that he’ll find the road downhill can be as rapid as the road leading upward. I like Whiteman and I would have signed him when we had the chance. He’s a very good player. Having said that at this moment in time I don’t think I’d swap him for Buckley. Buckley needs to take a look at the work rate of the two lads running the show in central midfield at the moment. He’s behind both of those and he could end up behind Mola. Maybe he should be polishing up his right back skills.

Jon Dahl Tomasson - Sweden coach

Yes I agree. We can’t afford go on another journey in this league. Look at Hudds they missed out and they lost their two best players right away. That’s what happens. You’re continually having to replace your better players. You don’t get a chance to build a settled side over several seasons. -
They needed Dyke tonight. Great looping cross in from the right that led to the goal.

WBA are going to struggle until they get a goalscorer onto the pitch.

He’s not even nearly a centre forward. Play him out wide if we’re going to play him at all. It’ll be interesting to see if Hirst plays from the start tomorrow. -

I can think of one person who’ll be less than thrilled. Edit - make that two. -

Yes I agree with a lot that. Playing twice a week is demanding. Their stamina will have to be built up. -

Definitely, good tacklers don’t rely on strength, it’s a skill in it’s own right. It’s the size of what’s beating under the badge that counts most. How big was Nobby Stiles ? A pal of mine played against him as a schoolboy and he said being tackled by Nobby was like having an electric shock up your leg ! Wharton looks like he likes a tackle, that matters most. -

Simon played a bit further forward for us. He had less of a defensive role.
