  1. I always thought - goalkeeper, centre half, centre midfield, central striker. Unless you’re lucky enough to have two backbones of course.
  2. When have they ever given anyone the feeling that they really want promotion ? Pound World or Pound Stretcher, take your pick.
  3. We like it around here, it’s great bit of the country. Manchester in one direction and beautiful countryside in the other. However what I was inferring is if you don’t know a lot about British football you could assume a relatively long standing Prem club would be a bit more “ Big Time “. You might assume you were going to somewhere like Newcastle or Everton, and you aren’t.
  4. I was only thinking about this the other day and then it occurred to me. How many of the foreigners have been to Burnley ?
  5. He needs to start dominating games, and for more than 45 minutes.
  6. He was a bit head down when he got into traffic. We had a saying about players like that - “ He dribbles when he comes up to a pair of feet “.
  7. The way prices are today it’s got to be £20 million. He’s bit different to most strikers because he can run with the ball instead of just running after it.
  8. You look at a player and you think what has he got ? If it’s a winger - Is he rapid ? If not is he a tricky dribbler. Can he beat a man with either of those skills ? Will he take opponents on ? Is he a good crosser of the ball ? What’s his work rate like ? Are his energy levels good ? Is he aggressive ? Is he a pest off the ball, always in the oppositions face ? Is he always showing for the ball no matter what’s going on around him ? What’s his shooting/heading ability like ? Can he play off either wing ? I’ve seen Hedges play a few times now and for me I can’t answer any of those questions with a positive.
  9. Good player for sure. They’re no fools at Brentford.
  10. Too easy. The only thing Dack has pressed recently is his trousers.
  11. From what I read they’re not sorry to see him go at Big Club.
  12. It’s usually 1964 in our house but I did branch out well into the 1970’s and the punk era. I was playing “ The Back Of My Hand “ by The Jags and “ Little Does She Know “ by The Kursaal Flyers the other day. I remember going a pub somewhere once about 20 years ago. We were with friends who had a young daughter so we were ushered into the “ family room “. There was nobody else in there but us. I noticed an old juke box in the corner so I had to go over and have a look. It was like a time capsule. They must have bought the juke box in August 1964 complete with the top 40 records and never changed one of them !
  13. True. I always walked on the side of the road opposite to the infirmary/hospital. I remember walking along there a bit further on towards the ground on match day and a lad on a motor bike was coming towards me on that side of the road. All of a sudden a car pulled out from a side street right in front of him. The poor biker had no chance, he hit the side of the car and went flying in mid air. He was only doing about 30 mph but he went about 15/20 yards before landing.
  14. I’d say does it suit the skill set of our existing players ? If it doesn’t he better bring some new players in that are up for it.
  15. Back in the day I think it was before you got to the Aquaduct. I suppose it depends on what direction you were walking.
  16. I like how you said that with a straight face. He’s probably on more than any complete first team we choose to put out.
  17. I used to look for the floodlights walking up from the Boulevard. Once I saw those I knew I was “ home “ again.
  18. Yes she was brilliant. What a loss. An old guy once told me - “ Always check your shit and your spit son “.
  19. If we go back to the “ pass it around at the back until we lose it “ style of play that Mowbray tried I won’t be happy.
  20. I’ve just got a long term herniated disc. Nothing too bad but limiting in terms of playing sport, gardening etc. Lifting bags of sand or cement out of the boot of the car is a real no no. 1 hours 5 a side football and after 45 minutes I was struggling to bend.
  21. He looked a player before he had the long term back injury. Speaking as a long time sufferer those sorts of injuries are not easily overcome.
  22. Or as somebody else once said - “ You don’t have to be a race horse to train one “.
