  1. You’d think he’d be ok playing deeper from a skill set point of view but in reality he’s struggled there.
  2. Regarding our failure to win once we go behind. In todays paper it states that Forest have not won any of their last 40 top flight games after conceding the first goal. On another issue entirely - there were 27,608 fans at Ipswich yesterday to see them lose 1-0 to Lincoln City. 37,060 at Sunderland and 28,458 at Sheff Utd.
  3. He’s hit one or two like that in the past but you need to be in that position to hit them.
  4. I remember watching Forest playing a German team in the European Cup years ago. It was a real arm wrestle with both teams playing really well. The Germans in particular were defending brilliantly and had a answer to all the football Forest were playing. With about 5 minutes left the score was still 0-0 when one of the Forest centre halves fired a long ball down field. The two German centre halves had been magnificent all night but they got in a tangle over this ball and left it to each other. A Forest striker nipped in behind them and slotted the ball past the keeper to win the tie 1-0. All that brilliant defending but a straight forward long pass won the game.
  5. I like Buckley but I don’t believe in rewarding failure. He’s had several chances this season to grab a shirt and he’s failed every time. I’d have him on the bench but we need to look elsewhere on Tuesday. The only thing he’s got going for him is he’s more experienced than the other players in the frame.
  6. According to the fans who’ve watched all of the candidates Garrett is the player in form. The only thing going against him is we’d be playing three central midfield players who haven’t got much more than 20 first team games between them.
  7. There’s also Edun and Mola in contention for the Travis role. Maybe Garrett will start ?
  8. 2 out of 3 isn’t bad but for a really tall guy he’s not a good header of the ball.
  9. There are only two places for Gally. Playing up the middle or on the bench. Forget this wide striker bollocks.
  10. Keep having to change the defence and you get what happened today. A lack of communication leading to their player being played onside.
  11. He needs the ball played in front of him, as does Hirst.
  12. Can’t see a lot of chances being made for us and we’ve always got a mistake in the team.
  13. That’s doesn’t look like a winning team to me. I just hope I’m wrong. C’mon Rovers.
  14. I was expecting him to do what he did for the first goal with that chance at the end. Dummy a left foot shot, switch the ball onto his right foot and open his body up for a shot back across goal. Instead he went goal at a narrow angle and gave the keeper a chance.
  15. Was Mike Newall the owner of the record for the quickest hat trick before Salah tonight ?
  16. I used to go to games with a mate of mine who was a City scout years ago. He made a point of watching strikers in away games. “ That tells you what they are made of “ he used to say. I can’t see anybody chucking big money at Brererton going off his away performances.
  17. In the running for the WBA job apparently.
  18. Exactly my argument. We played a guy with a great left foot out on the right wing. Because it’s what Pep does ! Consequently he kept having to stop and get the ball onto his good foot and the moment was usually gone. Another issue in that case is that the direction of flight of the ball with a left footer out on the right is normally in to the goalkeeper. With a good right foot crosser of the ball he can make the flight of the ball go towards the keeper initially but have it swing away later on.
  19. I remember reading a coaching book about 50 years ago. It was by an English guy who’d coached teams abroad extensively. He’d taken the Swedish national team to the World Cup final in 1958. “ George Rayner “ seem to ring a bell. He said the first thing to do when taking over a team was to evaluate the players individual skill sets and then devise a way of playing that got the best out of each player within the unit. It seems obvious to me. How else are you going to be successful ?
  20. He might have an idea but at this level it’s the wrong idea. I was nervous when we appointed him, not many top class strikers turn out to be good coaches because they don’t understand players at a lower level.
  21. That’s because they’re all playing on their “ wrong “ wing and want to come inside on their “ stronger “ foot all the time. Modern football - City do it so we expect our dollopers to be able do it.
  22. You move backwards to go backwards in football.
  23. I couldn’t understand how he was starting and Gally on the bench. Was Gally not 100% fit ?
  24. This league is there for the taking for any decent team with intelligent management.
  25. I can’t see anybody paying much of a fee for him to be honest. Not now.
