  1. I'm surprised at Bobby Mimms there. First rule of kicking into a high wind - keep the ball as low to the ground as you can. Having said that he made up for it later !
  2. That goes for me too. Not everybody is at the same level regarding their IT capabilities. I'm just pond life in that respect. I like things to be obvious and with all due respect neither the edit button or the like button were obvious. As an old boss of mine used to say - " Make it idiot proof ".
  3. We couldn't even afford to pay the phone bill back in those days. Jim Smith did a good enough job here to be poached away to bigger things as was Furphy, Lee and Kendall. Bobby Saxton wasn't a favourite of mine either but who knows what he might have done with the backing the current manager has received ?
  4. I never saw any lack of commitment from Kipre when he was out on the pitch playing for Wigan.
  5. Yes, which Rovers managers would you class as great ? Kenny, without a doubt. Then it's - Souey, got a promotion and a serious cup ? Mark Hughes, who did really well for us when we were struggling ? Howard Kendall, another promotion and he went on to great things at Everton ? Gordon Lee, a Championship win, Ken Furphy, Jim Smith ? Big Sam, a success nearly everywhere he went ? Johnny Carey, got us back into the big time and built the team that got to the Cup Final ? Jack Marshall, who created the best Rovers team I've ever seen but that never won anything ? Don MacKay and Bobby Saxton who both kept us in contention with next to nothing. How many of them would you put before Tony Mowbray in long list of Rovers managers ? For me - most of them.
  6. You can be grateful and critical at the same time. They are not mutually exclusive concepts.
  7. Thanks for that. Is it too difficult just to have an "edit " button ?
  8. How do you edit a post in this new format ? Why does every " improvement " actually take us backwards on the site ? I was going to edit my post above to say - " There was no diving back then, If somebody hurt you in a tackle you did your best not to show it. Divers make me sick, irrespective of who they play for. What they don't realise is they're killing the game for lots of people who came up in a diver free era. "
  9. That game would have ended up with a couple of red cards at least in todays football.
  10. When I first started watching Rovers we had Bray and Whelan at Fullback. Each of those could and did play left back or right back no problem. Same later on with Keith Newton and Billy Wilson, either of those were completely at ease in both positions. Newton was good enough to play both for England when playing for England really meant something. It appears to be a modern day issue were players can't switch flanks without it being a major problem.
  11. Yeah, they've been missing that long I'd forgot about them.
  12. Who else have you got in mind ? Williams and Wharton probably won't play again this year going off Mowbrays comments and Lenihan is going to be suspended at some point in the near future.
  13. Modern refs have made a rod for their own backs. If they were refereeing the infamous Chelsea v Leeds FA Cup Final replay in 1970 it would have ended up a game of 4 a side !
  14. I agree, I'm not his biggest fan but I thought he did well today. It's ok people moaning about Buckley having to go to right back but what were our other options ? Maybe Davenport could have played there but I wouldn't have fancied Johnson there, or Trybull for that matter. Downing would have been on the wrong side. Maybe drop Johnson back to centre half and keep Nyambe at right back.
  15. Douglas had also been booked, we didn't want to go down to 9.
  16. So at the moment we've got - Wharton out JRC out Williams out Butterworth out Brererton out Evans out Bennett out Douglas maybe out Have I missed anybody out ?
  17. Yes, from that Mowbray interview I heard on the radio it could be that today was his last game of the season.
  18. I reckon he must have missed as many games as he's played in his time here.
  19. I think if we have to play a midfield player at Centre half maybe Trybull could play there. Whilst we on the subject what's the latest with Evans ?
  20. I remember having to head back a long kick from out of the opposing keepers hands one day when we'd been playing in the snow. It came down like a mortar shell. Without a word of a lie I saw stars !
  21. I don't know but he could play centre half and let Nyambe go back to right back.
