Me too. Like any other appointment he’ll be judged on his signings. I can’t say that I’m too happy that the club appear to have chosen to put all their eggs into the youth development basket. That’s a recipe for more stagnation. In my opinion of course.

At the moment the youth side of the club is going well, as evidenced by the number of home grown players we’ve brought into the first team. It’s in finding the next Dack or the next Rothwell were the expertise was required.

That’s what worries me. As some one said earlier - is the plan to become the next Crewe Alex ? Develop young players and continually sell them on ? That policy got Crewe a good reputation but it didn’t get them very far league position wise.

I don’t see why Kane’s ability to reach the ball is an issue here. If you get tripped in the penalty area it should be a penalty. I remember a game on tv were the ball had been cleared out of the box and the centre half had a kick out at the striker, they’d been having a ding dong all the game. The ref gave a penalty.

The guy who used to write about my local rugby league team was banned from entering the ground by the clubs directors because he was on their case. He ended up going in through the turnstiles with a false beard and clear glasses.

I’ve never seen him have a good game for England. He looks overawed by the experience. Bowen looked more of a threat out there.

Lacklustre display by England. Germany passed us off the park, especially in midfield. England stole a point in the end. Grealish did more in 15 minutes than Mount did in the whole game. Saka ? What is he for ? Stirling really poor tonight. I don’t like two defensive midfield players along with Mount in midfield, much too defensive. Southgate too cautious, just like Mowbray, we’ll never win anything with him running the show.

Getting over run in midfield. I missed the start and I only realised Mount was playing after about 40 minutes.

Like any other football club board they will have had their eye on a possible replacement or replacements even when Critchley appeared to be settled. You never know in football and it pays to think ahead in any business.
