  1. A bit like Devon Malcolm in the cricket. He needed to get mad. I remember the South Africans bouncing him. He got really mad at that , I think he took something like 8 for 40 when he got to bowl at them !
  2. That was part of the problem. When we were playing two up front lots of our opponents made do with one. Their five in midfield usually got the better of our four.
  3. I thought so too but I don't think he ever reached the heights he should have done. He was like a fast Sonny Liston to look at but he never really made the most of his physique. I suspect he wasn't mean enough as a person.
  4. I don't think I would. I prefer having somebody up front with pace. There will be Premier League clubs watching Armstrong now, I don't remember any Premier League clubs giving Rhodes much of a look.
  5. I thought he was a bit peripheral last season. Having said that he was played all over the shop by Mowbray. He never really got to play in the role he's got now.
  6. The first time I saw Heskey play when he was a kid I - " The new Shearer ". He was awesome for a lad. Pace and power. He never quite made it to that level but he certainly liked scoring against Rovers.
  7. It's early days yet but the lad looks a real talent. I can see him having a big future if he can stay injury free.
  8. I've no doubt there'll be people at a higher level sitting up and taking notice already. Henley only had to have a couple of good games and Real Madrid were interested allegedly.
  9. If Rhodes is that good why don't we offer to swap him for Armstrong ? I'm sure his current club would be interested.
  10. I wouldn't say ten times but I agree he is/was better. He didn't miss many. I think Armstrong is more suited to the new " total football " we seem to have discovered. The threat of his pace makes opposing teams defend that bit deeper giving us a bit more room to play in. With Rhodes opponents could line out just inside their own half knowing full well most centre halves would match him for pace at the very least.
  11. Armstrong is Rhodes with added pace. He could probably out run Rhodes going backwards.
  12. That maybe right in Nyambe's case but it can be worked on if he's got the motivation to do so. When I first started watching back in the day Keith Newton played either flank equally well, in fact he played for England in both positions. John Bray and Dave Whelan could do both as could Billy Wilson. I was only an amateur but as I got older I could play on both flanks no problem. It doesn't come easy, it takes a lot of hard work and practice, but it can be done. It's not just the left footed running with the ball and passing you need to work on, it's the getting comfortable jockeying players down your " Wrong " side and getting a tackle in at the right time with your " Wrong " foot. I still see pros who tackle with the wrong foot because they favour their strongest side. Usually they come a cropper.
  13. Yeah, he was no stranger to the dark arts of football. I saw him do what Morsy did to Dack on more than one occasion. Just helping the opposing centre half on his way - into the advertisement hoardings !
  14. Me, the defensive one. I could run all day and I liked a tackle. Get the ball and give it to the other two lads. I could run past people but beating them in a dribble wasn't my strong point.
  15. I can never under stand why guys like Nyambe don't work harder on their ability to play on the other flank. I always reckoned you had two chances of getting into the team instead of one if you could play right or left back.
  16. They used to reckon Pele was the best goalkeeper in the Brazil squad ! He was supposed to be the stand in goalie before we had sub goalies.
  17. That was when the alarm bells really starting ringing for me.
  18. I always used to say in a midfield three you needed a good defensive player, a good attacking player and a player that can do a bit of both those roles.
  19. The old Dack could easily play the same role as Brererton played yesterday. Picking it up around the half way line and running with the ball. He may not cover the ground as quickly as Brererton but he's much more able to beat an opponent with the ball at his feet.
  20. They're only dirty when they play for other teams, as soon as they pull on the blue and white shirt they're the salt of the earth.
  21. I don't think we paid £5million for his abilities as a centre back to be honest.
  22. Yesterdays goal was the touch of a player who is at the top of his form. It looked easy because he made it look easy. How many time have you seen chances like that go over the bar or hit the goalie ? Never a moments doubt where that pass was going to end up.
  23. Tugayesque. The thing is we were 3-0 up then. Tugay would still be nonchalantly sliding those passes out if we were 3-0 down !
