Middlesbrough (A) - Match Thread

I've been complaining for ages that none of the central midfield players ever run beyond the strikers. That goal was a classic example of what can happen when one of them does. In Mowbray's interview tonight he more or less admitted he's been holding Travis back because neither of the other two in midfield have a tackle in them and somebody has to put a foot in in the midfield. It seems a waste to me. Having said that Holtby should be making those runs also.. -

Don't forget that was at Hull. It can be very windy out there. It looked to me like the wind gave it a helping hand after he miss controlled the ball. -

There's a reason why he's only good to be chucked on at the death. He's had his fair share of injuries since he left Rovers. We need to be looking elsewhere. -

The way things are going with all our No 10 type players Dack-Rothwell-Holtby he'd be playing next week if we hadn't have let him leave ! -

Yeah, I'd have had Chapman on instead of either Brererton or Samuel. Maybe he got out pointed in the fight ? -

Hands up all those outfield players on here who have never done something similar. I know I have. -

Thanks. What hurts most is the " Brexitisation " of our fan base. We seemed to be bitterly divided in our views regarding the owners, the manager etc to a much greater extent. than ever we were in the past. Maybe we can thank the internet and social media for some of that. As the old saying goes " A house divided against itself cannot stand ". -

Quite possibly. Bennett on the left wing is like a fish riding a bike. -

The best on going policy to attract more fans is to play football that gets you out of your seat now and again and to win your home games. I watched the Wigan game and we were beyond awful. Nobody on the verge of becoming a regular attender again will have come away from that game thinking " Roll on the next home game " or " I'll get a season ticket ". That's not the first time we've played like drains in front of a good attendance. -

It's more than just being in this "crap division " for me matey. It's the whole mess, the debt, the powerlessness, the alienation from the fans of the what used to be what I felt was my club, the lots of really dull football, the "doublespeak " from those supposedly in charge. It's the whole nine yards. You and I have seen us in this " crap division " before for decades but we never lost the faith, Rovers were our team even when we couldn't pay the electric bill. I could always paint a rosy picture of our future then even if it was pretty unrealistic, under the Chokers I can't. -

It's just like any abusive relationship. It was the bunch of flowers after last nights black eye. Do you think they are remotely interested in Blackburn Rovers ? I don't. -

Yesterday someone reported that the players were seen having a row before setting off for the North East. Mowbray was seen sorting it out. I theorized that someone had eaten more than their fair share of Mrs Mowbray's lemon drizzle cake. -

Let's hope they've sorted out what caused the row amongst the players yesterday. I'd take a draw now but to be honest my interest is waning at the moment. If the people in charge aren't that bothered why should we be ? -

At the risk of repeating myself - we'll never thrive under the Chicken Chokers, I would have thought that was obvious. How can you run any organisation successfully when the owners couldn't care less about it's future ? -

Sunderland signed a holding midfield player from QPR this week. Sounds like he had a bit more to offer than Smallwood. -

As I said earlier I saw Atsu play against Rochdale earlier this year. Magloire's the one to ask about him because Atsu ran him ragged for half an hour until Magloire was subbed and Matheson came on. Some players have that initial burst of speed over say 10 yards that gets them in the clear. Some players don't always have that but they're fast over say 50 yards. That's how a player can appear to be really fast but over 50 yards they can be getting caught by the longer striding players. Atsu had a great half an hour in that game. Every time he got the ball, which was often once Newcastle figured out he was the danger man. he made something happen. He laid on about 5 good chances of which Newcastle finally took one. He was quick and tricky. When they brought Matheson on he was up against somebody who was as quick if not quicker. He sort of faded out of the game then but so did most of the Newcastle team. Two things you've got to consider - this was against lower league opposition but he won't come up against somebody as quick as Matheson every week. Yedlin on the other wing looked a decent player also. I suppose Magloire v Matheson is a good example of a quick player versus a fast player. Matheson would beat Magloire in a 20 yard dash all the time but over 50 yards it might be another story given Magloire's reputation.
