JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW
Tyrone Shoelaces replied to adz4d2's topic in Blackburn Rovers Fans Messageboard
I didn't see a lot of him at Rovers. In the game at Oldham he was playing against a poor Rovers side in the same area of the pitch as Whittingham was occupying. He didn't get pushed of the ball much that day but like I said he had a point to prove. -
Middlesborough away Sat 8th Dec

I'd take a draw now. We played Wednesday at a good time last week. I'm not getting carried away. If we play as well tomorrow I'll be over the moon. -
How the table really looks

I wasn't expecting the play offs this season. Next season maybe. Lets not try to run before we can walk. -
You're right on both counts. Paul Mariner who later played as a striker for England played for Plymouth that day. One of the best games ever seen at Ewood Park. It was a titanic struggle with lots of quality football played. Bobby kept us afloat in the bad old days when we were on our uppers. Die hard Rovers fans will have fond memories of him.

He ran the show against us at Oldham last season. He looked a player that day. Maybe he can only raise his game when he has a point to prove. -
Players are always right behind the manager until the day he gets sacked. Not just at Rovers but at every club. It's the nature of the beast. They all look after No1. Look at the managers we've had since Big Sam, how many players actually came out and criticised them ? They only time they complain is when they're not getting selected for the team.

Burnley pub renamed after Sean Dyche

There's much less heavy tackling now JIm. In the old day a broken leg was quite a regular occurrence. Every team would have a victim during the season. There were as many broken legs then as there are cruciate injuries today. I'm not a big fan of way referees have clamped down on physical play but they can take credit for the lack of broken leg style injuries. I broke my right leg twice and what really shook me was how easily it happens. -

Sounds like Dyche was rowing with Klopp tonight. Bad Loser. -

Given the number of games he played for us he must top the list of the most ineffectual players we've ever had and I include Ashley Ward in that list. He was a very lucky boy to have a career in football. -
It's not looking good with Davenport. Sounds like he's got a touch of Gladwinitis. Any news as to when he's likely to be fit again ?

Just say Mowbray was lured away by a more successful club. What would happen then ? We'd be back playing a guessing game as to who the Chokers would appoint next. We could go backwards as quickly as we've gone forwards. That's why I don't want them anywhere near the Club again. -

Don't give them ideas ! They can come over next time it snows if they like. -
It's not been easy these last few years. We've either signed unknowns or guys who are a bit over the hill. I thought Bennett would turn out be a good signing. I also banged the drum for Nyambe and Raya when 90% of this board didn't rate them. Most of my optimism vanished when Coyle came through the door. I stopped watching football all together at that point. Were you jumping up and down when the likes of Gladwin, Caddis, Hart were being signed ? Who on here knew anything about Luetwiler, Downing, Smallwood or even Dack ?

I've watched him on Spanish TV when he was playing for Granada, he's come on a bit since his Rovers days. -
If you look back on the Whittingham transfer thread you'll see a few of us weren't " buzzing ". I had a bad feeling about signing him, especially on a 2 year contract. I just had a feeling he'd hit the wall. Watching him play was pretty sad, his legs had gone. Didn't Cardiff only offer him a 1 year contract ?

I wouldn't touch anything that Murdoch has a hand in.

2-1 defeat Jim. Played on a mud bath of a pitch the like of which you never see these days.

Looks like Shane Warne's flipper did him there. He was looking for the leg break. -
He had it all really Den, He was pretty quick, two footed, could beat an opponent with ball at his feet, decent in the air, he could bring other players into the action, very cool in front of goal, his discipline was good and a Blackburn lad to top it off. Our loss was Bolton's gain. I believe he carried on the scoring streak against West Ham there, I remember seeing him score another 3 goals against them for Bolton in a League Cup tie. Unfortunately he was more or less finished when he came back to Rovers, just like Fred Pickering was. They should have never come back really.

It was the end of the road when he came to Rovers. He just got lucky with the deal. When I saw him play it was obvious he was playing from memory.
