  1. Great to be ahead but could still go either way this one, they have some good players and Manning has out a couple of cracking balls in, if they’d been better they’d have finished one
  2. Has Russell Martin ever managed a side to anything other than mid table in his brief career? They looked poor in both matches against us last season but they also managed to get some good results, On paper you would think their play out if defense pass to death football would be ideal for JDT’s high press and we should be able to punish them but it’s early days for our tactics so it could easily go wrong. I fancy Big Ben to score at least one though, he had some good efforts last weekend.
  3. I don’t think Styles will come, he played last season and the first game of this in midfield and importantly doesn’t he play there for Hungary? So I doubt he’d want to come here and play left back or even left wing back unless he has no other options at all
  4. Yeah, I think you are definitely guilty of it here. Brittain, while not amazing, was quite good and Pickering wasn’t very good going forwards or back. I think QPR’s right side had a lot more joy than their left and Pickering made quite a few mistakes. I don’t think Vale was half as bad as you make out either. It will be interesting to see if Smodzics gets a start though I expect Morton will be on the bench.
  5. If he's not tactically good then, like with Ferguson, I'd hope we look elsewhere. The only way we will have a chance at challenging is with a manger who can out think the opposition as we are going to just outspend the others like we did in league one or Scott Parker did in the season just gone
  6. What I'd like most is a tactically astute manager who is able to get the best out of the players we have. This was Mowbray's biggest failing for me, going back to the league one season where we seemed to get through it by simply having better players. This would seem to rule out Ferguson given Myers comments. I'm not against the likes of Manning, Ainsworth and Warne just because their success comes from league one but the bigger names if they had been appointed would have indicated bigger budgets which could have been very useful.
  7. If I were making the appointment I would want to know a lot more than I do about each candidate so I don't really have a favourite. Even people like Farke and Carvalhal have things against them however impressive they may or may not seem. Manning though does look, from afar, to be a pretty impressive up and coming manager and isn't necessarily just a cheap option. He did, seemingly, well in Belgium and then at MK Dons he took over from Russell Martin (a possession obsessed coach) and pushed them on from 13th to to just missing out on automatic promotion. He also came across well in a couple of interviews I have read. I'm not saying he should get the job just I think he might actually be quite good.
  8. True but one half chance created from it only, let's hope he does it again and we can profit from it.
  9. Not too sure about Buckley false 9 again although we are one up and have had a couple of other half chances I can't help but feel the Bournemouth pressure will tell if the second half is the same. I see the logic of trying to catch them on the break but we have spent a lot of time with almost 11 in our own half and too many times just lumping it. We have had the occasional good pass, like Rothwell through to Brereton which created one of the aforementioned half chances but I do think we need to change things a little to push them back.
  10. I watched on Saturday night from China and it was fine but i did have to refresh a couple of times. However there is no match replay available so far and they need to sort that out quickly.
  11. I think if you are accessing it from a UK based account you can't watch even if you are abroad Very poor watch anyway
  12. It makes economic sense for us to wait if there are 2,3 or 4 teams interested. They value of an extra 2 or 3 million to us is a lot higher than it is to Southampton for example. Saints themselves have been up and down and will have to be careful losing their best player in Ings. If they believe Armstrong can make a big impact they can afford to pay 15 million at least.
  13. I watched on TV I thought Swansea were truly abysmal. Like us they lost quite a few good players but the combination of a very recently appointed manager trying and failing to implement a difficult to play system with unsuitable players lead to one of the worst away team performances we will see all season I reckon. For sure credit has to go to our players for looking them look worse but I think they would have lost to most half decent teams. If their manager really believes what he said then they will be in big trouble this season.
  14. I’m in China and the website won’t load without a vpn probably because of something to do with Facebook or google
  15. But we were still allowed to bring players in on 10k a week, I remember then Birmingham manager Gary Rowett was quite envious of that. Do we have the budget to go up to or over that now or is it even worse?
  16. It seems especially mad even for Vs to be unhappy about wasting money yet keep the people who’ve wasted it. And then not to replace Mowbray with someone who is known to care for the club and has been brilliant working on an extremely tight budget in Ainsworth
  17. 1. No 2. gone by November, I think he would have gone last season if the fans had been there, he won’t be able to take the criticism 3. kaminski, he’ll need to be if Mowbray is here too long 4. 14th if we get a decent replacement manager 5. West Brom - good manager
  18. Isn't that part of the point? You can be outstanding when you are young but usually lack the consistency to do it week in week out. An 18 year old that be consistently good is not unheard of but pretty rare and centre back is not a position where you can hide on a bad day. I've not seen any of these young CBs so can't comment on them individually but tend to favour experience in this and the GK position more than anywhere else.
  19. If you live there you (and @JHRover) should know that Old Trafford is not and never has been in Salford!
  20. I don't really understand why anyone would have Gallagher in the team as he's been mostly very poor and Elliot has been mostly very good. Unless Elliot still needs a rest. Johnson has been quite good so I expect he will come back but i wouldn't be opposed to Trybull playing instead. I feel that Holtby and Rothwell benefit from playing together as they both require attention. Hopefully they will both be at their best and we will blow Barnsley away.
  21. JRC whilst he's shown that he is capable of doing a job there isn't a full back IMO and I worry that he's going to be exposed by a tricky winger. I'd much prefer to see him further foward. Hopefully he doesn't have too much to do defensively.
  22. The only one I'd be desperate to sign up ASAP is Nyambe, as I rate him and he's got lots of potential to improve but I do worry that it's taken so long already and him being dropped might make him reluctant. Obviously JRC needs singing up but in theory that should be too difficult. Holtby and Rothwell still have a bit to prove so can wait until nearer new year for me.
  23. You're more than entitled to your opinion but I'd be a little more reserved personally. If @Sparks Rover is to be believed, and i don't see why not, Mowbray and his scouting team have seen enough in him to have been following him for a while and meeting him twice this season, TM even hinted at interest himself. If the Swansea rumour is true they also think he could be worth. These two things seem to point to him having quite a bit of ability. I don't recall him much from the game or two i have seen him play so I will withhold judgement but if he's half the player Sparks think he is then I'd love to sign him. I'd presume he'd have to be a Venky special signing though which seems unlikely at the moment, and that Evans would probably need to go to Stoke (which may have happened if he was fit). I'd expect he's a lot better than Smallwood though, who though he played a role in League One, didn't impress me that much. I'm not a big fan of Johnson either though he does have some good games. End of the day though I'd be spending whatever I had (presuming it's not much) on a quality left back.
  24. Strong looking Bournemouth side with them able to leave Brookes and Billing on the bench I'd have preferred Evans to Johnson and a new left back to Bell but otherwise it is ok. Williams looked good with Lenihan in some games last season. I think he suffered against the more physical forwards so he might do alright. Was never impressed with Solanke but he might come good in the Championship. It will be a tough game no doubt but if we have the attitude we had after the first 20 minutes against Leicester then we have a chance of an upset.
