  1. Only question for me would be how far away the crop of Academy CBs are - I gather we have a few quite good ones. I wouldn't want to block their path by signing Sanderson. If they're years away then fair enough, he's a good squad player.
  2. You're already down to the bare bones of the support. They'll renew come what may.
  3. Pretty sure they failed to pay an instalment on Brewster to pay for Ahmedhodzic.
  4. He did, which means there wasn't really one - he's 23 and been an established first teamer for years.
  5. Before the summer started I thought we'd get relegated this season - we scraped survival by the skin of our teeth and clearly needed serious investment in the playing squad. We knew Szmodics was going and we had more than an inkling that the transfer fees for him, Raya and Wharton wouldn't be reinvested into the squad. Credit to John Park, he did an excellent job with an incredibly limited budget, and provided Eustace with JUST enough options to craft a functioning team: Gueye Ohashi Cantwell Weimann Batth (my player of the season) Beck Hopes were raised heading into January, however, once again the powers that be (whether that's the three stooges or the Rao family) refused to back the manager who, by that point, had absolutely flogged the squad. The inevitable injuries to key players left us in terrible form at the start of the year. Roll on the January window and the predictable disaster it turned out to be which, coupled with a refusal to extend the contracts of key players and the manager himself, ultimately led to the story of the season - Eustace walking out the door to join a smaller, relegation threatened club. Both managers did a credible job (as much as I dislike Ismael, 5 wins on the bounce and 7 undefeated is nothing to be sniffed at) and the players (mostly) played to the best of their abilities. I think they have to take some blame for clearly sulking after Eustace left, but ultimately the squad isn't good enough to challenge for the Playoffs. So looking forward to next season, I'm back in the same boat I was last summer - we need serious investment in the playing squad. We've got to do it this time without Park who left Rovers in November. If the January transfer window is anything to go by I'm not hopeful.
  6. I think he'll end up at one of the mid-table muddle teams - QPR / Bristol City / Millwall et al on better wages than we offered.
  7. He was playing against borderline PL players - they always have him in their back pocket. He simply doesn't have enough in his locker to trouble them. Case in point that shot right at the GK when unchallenged 20 yards out. He should be burying that.
  8. They've still got the PL money - they won't be offloading players to the likes of us.
  9. Based on the last few games, the big mistake was persisting with Pears. Evidently Toth is an actual GK - they had us convinced that he wasn't because they refused to play him. How many points did Pears cost us AGAIN this season?
  10. These loans have been disasters - there's no immediate help coming next season from this bunch.
  11. We had it the right way round earlier in the season - Gueye starting games and battering the CBs and Ohashi coming on at 70 mins to try and nick a goal against tired legs. It doesn't work the other way round, Gueye isn't an impact sub (partly 'cos we rarely cross the ball into the box).
  12. I agree with most of that. I'd argue the recruitment in the summer was excellent considering the miniscule budget. Gueye cops far too much stick on here - we're a different proposition as a team when he's on the pitch, he gives us physicality and an out ball (not to mention how good he is defensively on set pieces). Ohashi doesn't provide that - and neither will Leonard (if he ever plays for us again). Cantwell flattered to deceive at times, but he really is playing with crap wide players who offer him nothing. He needs to be taken off set pieces and just given license to play a free role as a #10. The January recruitment was diabolical (although I quite like Sanderson and Ribeiro) and the reason we ultimately missed out on the Playoffs - and a factor in Eustace making us look like a laughing stock by going to Derby.
  13. Yeah not as bad as Bootlicker Dunn, but pretty poor form.
  14. There isn't one this year, unfortunately. You can't rely on your Academy to produce First Team quality players every season, it just doesn't work that way.
  15. Hope he does more for us than his dad ever did here.
  16. That's the craziest thing - with all this disfunction behind the scenes (absent and now penny-pinching owners, self-serving clowns in the Board Room) we've still finished 7th twice in three seasons. With the right leadership we'd be a PL club again.
  17. Who wasn't up for it? You have to understand from 1-11 (and 12-17), Sheffield United had better players across the park. You can't go gung-ho because they'll tear you apart with the pace and ability they have. We gave a very good account of ourselves - a draw at Bramall Lane is a good result, it's losing to the likes of Plymouth, Cardiff, Derby et al that have shafted us (on the pitch at least).
  18. The reason they've finished so far ahead of the pack if because all of those 7 changes would walk into our first team. They brought Hamer back, ffs. He's their player of the season.
  19. Leeds, Burnley and Sheffield United are by far the best teams in the division - and two of them got embarrassed in the PL last year.
  20. I was more annoyed with his attempt to pass the ball into the box from Kargbo's cross. Completely unchallenged at the back post and he mishits it. Should have brought it down for himself or shot. He's been a disgrace for us. Up there with Murphy et al.
  21. A second rate Sheffield United team on 92 points?
  22. I wouldn't bring Dennis on - he's been an awful signing.
  23. Would have been nice to get a competent ref and have been given one of those pens. Alas competent refs are few and far between.
