He was bought for £1.2m from Japan 4 years ago. He left Birmingham for £400k on a relegation release clause (signed on a free). His agent will have inserted a relegation release clause into his contract. There's no way we're paying £2m for him from a relegated side that only played him 15 times last year.

It might not even be as deep as that. How strong is the Yen these days? How far does £10k a week get you in Japan? I've been to Scandinavian and it's bloody expensive, so Tronstad wanting more makes sense.

I agree with what Glen said - we're not spending big (we'll have covered our costs anyway with the sales), but they're not going to rush out and correct the figures that have been bandied around because it doesn't benefit them to.

Not really. All of our signings have come from the continent where wages are lower. Brittain / Travis / Tronstad are established Championship players and want comparable wages to their peers. I think we'll really struggle after this season to recruit - we'll find this continental scouting harder and harder as our permit places dry up (due to fewer and fewer English players logging minutes for us). That hard £10k wage cap clearly isn't a myth.

I think Henriksson is being modest - took his goals well in his highlights and seems to be able to pick a pass too. I agree with a lot of it though - think it's going to be about effort, athleticism and discipline this season. Desperately need a quick RW who is also a good set piece taker (I'd have been happy for the set piece taker to come from another position, but it seems like we've basically already built the team so that's the last option).

Mowbray consistently talked down Blackburn Rovers FC. It wasn't one defensive comment or an attempt to manage expectations. He genuinely thought he was bigger and better than us - and acted like we were a minnow in this division. Fuck that. We're a division too low, thanks to the owners. I mean we need a lot of things, but the hole at RW is absolutely glaring. If you get service to Ohashi and Gueye they'll score. Maybe we loan a PL lad in for #3? Won't be a superstar tho.

I agree, however, the squad is currently dangerously short of players. Look I hate the two stooges as much as the next guy, but they and Ismael clearly recognise we need to put a squad together. They won't reinforce in January if we're doing surprisingly well, but they are keen on staying in the division so will spend the bare minimum to do so (which we currently are).

Financially we've spent utter peanuts - I'd be confident in saying Brittain and JRC being sold has more than financed our transfer dealings so far. Plus letting Dolan, Weimann, Batth walk too will have eased any pressure on the wage bill.
