Maybe he's happy with a few of the Academy players stepping up. Tyjon still being here is clearly a big bonus. None of the CBs have disgraced themselves. They seem to like Montgomery as an option at RB and CM. Mullarkey-Matthews seems to have been catapulted into the fringes of the first team.

Wanted 90% of his business done before pre-season started. We're about to head back from our warm-weather camp and we have a gaping hole at RW and no depth at 10 and CM. He can't be happy.

And most of us complained he wasn't good enough - so to go from that to nothing leaves a massive hole.

Someone said in the last game thread that he's a RB and hasn't even turned out for the U21s yet (so I assume he's 17/18?). That's when it clicked for me - I thought he was just quite poor, but he's actually a RB being played on the RW, hence why he looks like a fish out of water at times.

Alebiosu is v. quick too.

He'd be a superstar in L2. He's quite good technically and he's a good athlete. Playing against lesser players, with more time on the ball, he'd be a handful.

I understand why managers like him - he works his socks off defensively, but my god he's awful in the final third. I think he'd be a good LWB, I really do.

If Ohashi was a couple of yards quicker I could understand all the calls for him to start. As it is he just doesn't trouble defenders the same way Gueye does. I think he's an excellent option off the bench, and should obviously start his fair amount of matches in rotation, but Gueye is clearly the more impactful CF to me. He just causes chaos upfront. Defenders absolutely hate playing against him.

Ohashi's link up play is really mediocre.

I'm really liking my Emerton comparison - athlete first, footballer second. He's a good enough footballer, but yeah his first touch isn't great. He'll do his damage with his pace, work rate and discipline.

For those worried about Hedges as our starting RW going into the season - he's fluffed two gilt edged chances already.

I reckon a good set piece taker is worth 10 goals a season. I also reckon Toth over Pears is worth 10 goals a season too.

Desperately, desperately need a set piece taker. I've seen DeNeve take one corner and it was better than anything Cantwell has put in. His delivery is criminal.

Tidy on the ball, but quite small and slow. Think they'd really struggle against a Championship team with an athletic front line - that long ball seems to be on all the time.

Cantwell must just have one of those personalities. There's no way Elche know who he is, but they've been kicking him off the pitch in the first 20 minutes. Also that's poor refereeing - booking Ribeiro for moving the Elche player from standing over a prone Cantwell (that he'd just hacked down).
