  1. I think that Szmodics season was just the perfect storm. At his peak athletically, given a free role to just find space and score goals (a bit like Armstrong) and he hit a rich vein of form (that seemed to never end). It was the right time to sell him - he'll never hit those heights again.
  2. But we continue to tighten our belts. Why would we pay wages and a loan fee (several hundred £s) to develop someone else's player? They're not going to be the missing piece to fire us into the PL so it's literally setting fire to money.
  3. Expecting Cantwell to chip in with a few more and Henriksson to score. RW has to score and create - Ohashi and Gueye can't create chances out of thin air.
  4. Quite a few players who need loans / should be nowhere near a Championship squad (Batty, M-M) have got squad numbers. Duru seems to have really fallen out of favour. Pretty much gone from "next man up" to us playing a CM over him and buying two new RBs.
  5. On the same day the supporters group have once again called for the Rao family to hand ownership of the club to another party. Couldn't make it up.
  6. The reason we desperately needed a #10. Cantwell can't be relied upon - he always picks up knocks, niggles and colds that keep him out of games.
  7. Suspect we'll see a lot of Cantwell wide left, Henriksson wide right during this season. More so if we don't get a RW sorted!
  8. I agree that's the plan - but for mine Leonard needs a season starting in L1 (or L2 until Christmas if we can't find him an acceptable L1 role - he NEEDS football). Sitting on the bench after so long out will do him no favours. Along with that CM, and assuming we keep Tyjon, we need a starting RW who's bloody good and then I'd be inclined to loan a third choice CF from a PL team to give us an option off the bench. Preferably one with pace - in fact that's the one attribute I'd target above all else with that loan. If you look at other mid-table and above teams, they all have attacking options on the bench to throw on. Currently we have the option of sticking Ohashi at 10 behind Gueye (depending on which one starts) and erm... Kargbo as an impact sub? If anyone loses form or gets injured we're really scratching around in attack.
  9. https://x.com/RoversXtra/status/1953703013333577950?t=2AMKh-RBUbF_ORFaJX_Jfg&s=19 I could see Hyam being sold to finance this transfer - assume it's bollocks though.
  10. Cantwell and Henriksson play further forward (in our 4-2-3-1 formation). Buckley and Forshaw are naff - and it looks like Buckley is on his way out. So one more to go along with Travis, Tronstad and Tavares please?
  11. They can put a good delivery in against me and you. Against fellow pros though it's definitely a skill to do so. It's the most important ingredient we're missing now.
  12. Do we know if Miyoshi takes set pieces? No point having this big, physical side if Cantwell / Hedges are chipping the dead balls into the box.
  13. They're more than happy to share salaries in the NFL / MLB etc.
  14. He was bought for £1.2m from Japan 4 years ago. He left Birmingham for £400k on a relegation release clause (signed on a free). His agent will have inserted a relegation release clause into his contract. There's no way we're paying £2m for him from a relegated side that only played him 15 times last year.
  15. It might not even be as deep as that. How strong is the Yen these days? How far does £10k a week get you in Japan? I've been to Scandinavian and it's bloody expensive, so Tronstad wanting more makes sense.
  16. Relegation specialist you say? Well some posters think that's exactly what our owners want, so maybe they'll push the boat out for him...
  17. And also why loans are moronic unless you're pushing for promotion. Spending £x,000 to develop someone else's player whilst being happy to bob around mid table is stupid.
  18. I agree with what Glen said - we're not spending big (we'll have covered our costs anyway with the sales), but they're not going to rush out and correct the figures that have been bandied around because it doesn't benefit them to.
  19. Does he not want that or does he literally not have one of those in his squad right now?
  20. I didn't mind it at the time as I thought he'd kick on, but yeah those spots are at a premium now and he seems to be a dud unfortunately.
  21. Not really. All of our signings have come from the continent where wages are lower. Brittain / Travis / Tronstad are established Championship players and want comparable wages to their peers. I think we'll really struggle after this season to recruit - we'll find this continental scouting harder and harder as our permit places dry up (due to fewer and fewer English players logging minutes for us). That hard £10k wage cap clearly isn't a myth.
  22. Depends what his delivery is like. Does he take set pieces?
