Right.

I thought it was a poor value fee for the quality and potential he has... let’s see what Brentford get for him (I suppose, we’ll get a few crumbs of it as a sell on fee).

I wouldn’t have thought they’d apply it this season, typical EFL just to kick the can down the road. Their forums are in meltdown with rumours and conspiracy theories though, as you can imagine! -

Bennett aside (contracted unfortunately), there’s a very good chance we won’t see the other 4 that have been dropped/rested (Tosin we know already, Graham, Samuel, Downing) next season.

Chaddy thought ‘£7 million was a steal’ No arguments there!
-
At those prices? Few did Did they seem good value to you?
-
Not what you said, you said we would attract ‘nobody who is any good.’ The ‘needy and greedy’. Which one was Mowbray?
-
So we can’t sack Mowbray because we’d only attract no marks, but you also think we would attract managers of the level of Mowbray, who you rate highly.. You’ve realised you’ve got in a tangle, so now you’ve pivoted to it’s to do with cost. Think that brain of yours is Mashed this morning.
-
So if things have got stale, there’s no worries in getting someone else in then if you feel we can attract managers of Mowbray’s quality?
-
Well you obviously think he is, so kind of negates your original point, no?

Mowbray came...

1995 wasn’t particularly different than 1990, just a re-branded league, though the seeds had been sown. Serie A was still the go to competition. It is this last decade where the finances have got out of control. Bigger attendances doesn’t mean the game itself is in a good place. The EFL is a basket case and even in the PL, 6 mega clubs are now playing a different sport thanks to the globalisation of the game and CL cash. I for one can’t wait for 4 of them to play each other once again in this weekend’s semi finals. Untold billions in to the game, but the vast majority of it straight into the pockets of agents and players. The desperation to get playing BCD shows how financially precarious the whole thing is.

8 years on, never even had a job laying out cones in the UK since, considering just how morally corrupt football is and he’s still beyond the pale, says it all...

Always a myth that it was the incident cost them the title. Their form actually improved after he was out, whilst it was us that staggered over the line in the run in.

Indeed Gav, end of the day it comes down to the ‘model’ - young English forwards increase in value exponentially if they do the business. But it’s a very risky business as football is littered with promising 18 year olds that never kick on - BB is looking like he will fall into that catergory. Therefore price and value is key, risk v reward - initial £1.7m for AA, great deal as it’s a relatively low cost and he was already a goalscorer, big chance of a profit. Low risk. £7m for BB, highly risky for a club of our means and big money for a teenager with very little behind him, always going to be difficult to profit on. And potentially leaving the club financially hamstrung.

The fact we ‘sold the goalie’ to help buy Sam Gallagher doesn’t exactly make it better...

Shame Venky’s didn’t do that...
