PNE looked dreadful, let’s hope they now fade away... And they call us ‘entitled plastics’... https://www.pne-online.net/forum/index.php?threads/neil-out.3430952/ -

Game of opinions and all that, but I’ve honestly not seen a part of Bell’s game that is good enough for a side that want to be a contender for PL promotion on a consistent basis. -

‘Here’, being ‘in the mix’, of course. Our natural state under Bowyer re-born. The actual top 6?! Let’s not get giddy! -
You are obviously easily fascinated! Didn’t think it was just about my post, but I disagreed with your analysis, so said so. Kind of the point of this place, no?

Ha we used to have all this ‘must win’ talk every week in the old world... we often didn’t, but here we still are! -
I literally said it’s a good policy. But you still need to look after the financial well being of the club. There was a chance AA flopped too, but a £1.7m initial fee for a player that had already scored goals and provided a plethora of assists was much less of a risk than £7million on a teenager that had showed relatively little for Forest. And who says we get anywhere near £15/£20 million for AA anyway (to ensure break even or a profit overall from all 3 signings) in this new world? Of course a club of our means can’t say ‘oh well’ if BB ends up being released or sold for a pittance.
-
It’s a good policy. But you need to find value when initially purchasing the players. £7million was a panic price for such a raw young lad and ever getting that money back will be difficult. The fact AA will probably make us a good profit doesn’t mean we just go ‘ah well’ over BB. Every signing needs to be looked at on its merits. We are a middling second tier club with a low income, that was a hell of an outlay.

Very damming of Nixon, you could say... -
The policy of ‘young English forwards’ is being used as a blunt instrument here. Great idea theoretically as I’m sure ‘the data’ outlines that they rocket in value. Armstrong will certainly be worth far more than the £1.75m rising to £3m we paid (well he was before the plague sent everything upside down), but you need to be scouting properly and getting value prices for the players initially for the model to work. £12 million on SG and BB was certainly not value, so making a profit on those will always prove difficult even if improve from here.

Do I buggery! (Oops opposition again ) But if I disagree I’ll post my opposing views. Not going to apologise for that, nothing personal, it’s how it works. Anyway sure we’ll agree to leave it there and move on as the rest of the board doesn’t want to see a page of back and forth over a misunderstanding... -

You are either being disingenuous or you are ridiculously naive You honestly think that TM, who lives in the north east and is a football obsessive hadn’t even heard of Sunderland’s Scotland international and number 1 keeper until last week?! -

I could think of a few questions that could be asked, however we don’t have ‘journalists’, I.e reporters with a nose for a story covering Rovers. It’s all about maintaining access through promoting a cosy relationship between the club and local media. The likes of Bayes and Sharpe just tee up some soft questions that will create a few decent quotes for next day’s paper/radio report. -

Example #34577 of how the football bubble exists in a total different world than most industries... -
He did resemble a footballer, he often hasn’t. I was being a little snarky, but so what, it’s only a message board. I didn't go down to the players entrance on Saturday evening to shout it at him.
-
Didn’t say you did, ‘twas I that claimed that he wasn’t, I presumed you thought that was me being harsh. Thank heavens we are seeking some small shoots, for him, of course, but more importantly for the club .

End of the day we are a professional club who exist to put a first team on a pitch to win football matches. If the situation around eligibility is true, surely giving a contract to an employee that legally/per regulations is not allowed to perform his duties for the duration of said contract is a rather odd turn of events? -

By the mid to late 80s he was a quality footballer. Always wondered how he would have fared in the top flight... -
Proved me wrong how? I don’t flip flop and judge players on one performance be it good or bad. You obviously do as you wanted Samuel gone before lockdown as he was ‘nowhere near good enough’, and now he MUST be signed up for a new contract after a 25 minute cameo. He resembled a footballer on Saturday, so a marked improvement. He’s a long way to go to be the real deal. Perfectly fair comments.
