I think that VDB will be a good signing, he’s a very good defender and seems to be quick and mobile. He gives us lots of options so seems ideal and would get plenty of game time I’m sure, so not a problem to accept Liverpool’s provisos. Both VDB and JPVH were picked up cheaply from Holland. Is there not another up and coming CB in Holland that we could buy cheaply? (Chaddy over to you😊). My concern for JPVH is that he’s a bit like Harry Maguire great playing in the centre of a back five where he can head the ball away all day or sweep up, but playing high up the pitch in a four will expose his lack of pace and ability to turn quickly. He got absolutely mullered when he played against Fulham.

It would seem that they appear to be fitter and having 5subs available each game so that he can freshen things up for the last 20mins will probably prolong the possible decline. However, it’s the knocks they pick up over a long season that will slow players down and they have to work as a unit otherwise it won’t work, so I think it’s almost inevitable plan B will be needed in the second half of the season. It happened to TM but he didn’t have a plan B.

An alternative system is going to be needed as a plan B because TM tried a high pressing game with great success. However, after a few games, especially when playing twice a week and picking up knocks, the tempo dropped and it became ineffective and we didn’t dominate teams like we did and consequently we stopped getting the results we had been enjoying. Plan B is where Dack will come into his own. When there are fewer chances you need someone who is ruthless when the opportunity arises. Don’t write Dack off he will be needed.

More like Brereton than Dias today. -
Besikas may want Styles and may have the attraction of European competition and a warm climate, but don’t underestimate the power of the “missus”. If she prefers to stay close to her family from Manchester and be paid a lot more, it could be her that calls the shots! I believe Rothwell’s wife played a huge part in his decision to leave Rovers. So there may still be hope.

He was great for us in a back three, but struggled when playing on a back four. He is great in the air and tackles hard and performs with great composure, but he is slow and this showed up more when playing in a back four. Wharton is also very slow so the two of them playing in a back four against quick attackers scares me, they are too easily torn apart by clever quick passing. I think that the way JDT wants to play requires quick CBs, so as much as I loved Van Heckes commitment I don’t think he’s what JDT is after.

Cheers Glen, very professionally done and very insightful. Thank you for your time and efforts on behalf of us all. I suspect SW will be better briefed and prepared for your next meeting. I think that you being so forthright with him and not holding back your punches will hopefully make him think more about the issues rather than just treating it as another PR charm offensive. Hopefully your remaining questions will cut to the quick and put him on the spot with the issues you will discuss. As many have said already he has not performed up to scratch regarding the state of Ewood Park and the pitch, the training ground fiasco, contract renewals, season tickets and the ridiculous length of time it took to find a manager! I would ask you to ask him how he intends to get Philips to sign a professional contract and the same applies to the very highly rated Batty, who I believe is yet to sign one. once again thank you it is very much appreciated by us all.

I would love those two, brilliant talents. Those two plus George Hurst, who did really well in his loan at Pompey, plus Davis would be an immense transfer window. Supplement those with one or two good quality loans and we could be competing for a top six place again. I appreciate for that to happen we would need to sell BBD, but the above would be a great use of the money received.

He’s only been signed as cover for a young and exciting right wingback that they have ( not the one they are selling ), so he be warming the bench most of the time. However, if he has set himself up for life with a great salary then maybe he’ll be happy. Sadly, I think the same will apply to Lennihan
