Each to their own. The reality in the ground will be large scale apathy and ambivalence, with small pockets of dissent, amongst the inevitably poor attendances. One day I hope to return, but my connection with the club barely exists anymore as things stand.

I know you're only kidding, but it would be utterly depressing and would rub our noses in it even more. I doubt very much it would be a step up to Rovers after another season or two of Mowbray.

Yes, I should have quoted the poster who queried why Ainsworth would go to PNE, who seemed unaware he had played there. He clearly has an affiliation with PNE, though Rovers would be a greater pull. I still have a hunch that Preston will appoint him.

They are not “my” issues and if you don’t feel let down by the way the club is being run I am truly amazed. You will be sat watching garbage in an a near empty stadium with zero atmosphere.

I will supporting my club I have supported all my lifetime. I'm not going to stop going cos of the manager who I want replacing. I didn't want Ince to become manager when he did get the job, having Kean and Coyle didn't stop me going either. If you don't want a ST then thats fine with me. I have no issues with your choice but please don't start trying me feel guilty at all cos I don't or won't As you know full well, the issues run much deeper than the current manager. I’ve also supported the club all my life, but this is not that club anymore as far as I’m concerned. Hopefully, one day the ownership will change and I (and many others) will feel a connection again. I’m not trying to make you feel guilty. If you want to pay good money to be constantly let down, that’s up to you. I couldn’t care less.

Largely agree, but as the likes of Barnsley have shown, a decent leftfield appointment can also be successful. I put Ainsworth in that bracket. No doubt we will plod on with Mowbray until it's too late to salvage next season, and then replace him with another poor choice.

Following yesterday's result I fear we have now been sentenced to at least another year of Mowbray. That aside, I would be happy with Hughes, Wilder or Ainsworth, (amongst others). Regarding suitability / potential to succeed, how much club managerial experience did Hughes have prior to getting the gig with us in the Premier League, and he did okay. Similarly, Wilder had no managerial experience in the top two divisions prior to being appointed by Sheffield United. The type of managers who have some Championship success on their CV, and who are available, and likely to come are largely limited to the Mowbrays, Coyles and Lamberts of the World, ie their success was a long time ago. In that respect, Wilder is the exception. I think a Championship club, (possibly PNE), will give Ainsworth his well deserved chance, and I believe he will take it.

Are Venkys really so thick? Every other club has had the COVID related issues, in fact the likes of Rotherham have suffered far more. I think relegation “battle” is being optimistic.

Ainsworth has done a great job at a very small club. It was obvious they would struggle in this division, but that would’ve been the case had Klopp, Tuchel or Guardiola been manager. He’s done well to have them still in with a shout of staying up. I would sooner we go for someone with clear potential than someone who had success long ago or someone who only appears capable of mid table Championship.

They are competent dinosaurs, not the type that we would most likely appoint. I was gutted when we hired Coyle over Warnock, but feel that both he and McCarthy are now both finally past their sell by dates. However, I would still prefer either to Mowbray. The reality is we're not a big enough draw to lure a Bielsa or someone who would almost guarantee success. We still have a decent pool to fish in, but opting for a Neil or a Rowett , (who have both been touted), would be unimaginative and no more likely than an up and coming candidate, (eg Ainsworth), to succeed. Venkys are still guilty of trying to put the cart before the horse. We need a competent, functioning and empowered CEO first. Then we might finally start to progress and get these types of decision right.

I take your point, but Coleman has never taken Accy to The Championship. To us, Ainsworth might be an obvious name, but not to Venkys advisers. I get why people have their reservations, but just wait until we appoint another dinosaur / complete dud and you can pretty much guarantee that Ainsworth will immediately be seen in a better light! Ainsworth is a realistic target who would almost certainly accept the job. He would put his heart and soul into the job. He comes across as bright and charismatic. In my book, that, added to a decent CV at a small club, gives him at least half a chance of making the step up.

Well, okay, but Wycombe are certainly a minnow and he got them in the Championship without a pot to p*ss in. It's the terrible start that's done for them, unfortunately. Ainsworth is one of several I'd be happy with. None of them will end up here.

I wouldn't get too hung up about that as a good few will be off. I would be looking at Ainsworth as a long term appointment. It won't happen, of course. This is Venkys car crash FC.

Not sure about @roversfan99, but I would definitely be a returning season ticket holder if Ainsworth was appointed. Alas, I can see him going to Preston and us being stuck with a guy who is like a house guest over staying his welcome.

Well I would suggest that appointing a series of stooges and the manager's mate are not the most likely to yield a positive outcome. That is not a case of their being unlucky, it's wilful neglect.
