  1. Now that’s a sign of good or at least positive recruitment. Let’s see if our side already being well gelled gives us an advantage. Or if there is a difference in quality.
  2. How did Waggott get on lobbing the FA about our women’s team being given a league place? It was one of the few plusses But was never reported (except via @Tom) on here and has seems to have died a death.
  3. It’ll be interesting to see the starting line up after 10 games. Last season’s team with less than 15 points and it’s a poor transfer window. 20 points and the same side would make it a successful Summer’s recruitment because it would show that the existing players have raised their game. It’s going to be an interesting subplot. As always the proof will be in the points column.
  4. Which is exactly why I’ve not been over the moon with our signings. It’s odd to bring in players in the Championship who aren’t better than the existing L1 players and who can’t displace any of them. But... Bell not better than Williams? Wasn’t Rothwell supposed to have been good in preseason? More likely is that Mowbray is being loyal to his old guard.
  5. Not a single new player starting. Mowbray clearly thinks last season’s side is our first team.
  6. That would have been a great match. Bobby Robson was an absolute genius and built a cracking side. We were the best in England but only just. Heart says Rovers, head says Ipswich by a goal. SAS would have taken some stopping though. In some ways, we are hoping that Mowbray is our Robson. They seem to be cut from the same cloth. Bobby just had that spark though. A twinkle in his eye. He loved the game.

  8. Site won’t let me post the text with links for some reason.
  9. I don’t think it’s been completed fully. I actually did a little bit of research recently myself but never got around to posting it - or the moment passed or whatever. But it was interesting to see links with former players and speculated ones... just tried posting - give me a sec.

  11. Comparing our current fanbase to most others is quite unfair. We’ve had our heart ripped out and it’s only after a season of success at a lower level that we have even started to find our voices again. Highlights for me are the Mulgrew/Dack and Smallwood songs creating our own heroes and actually signing about our own team. Lowlights were as fans started to head back towards the end of the season the songs about Bumley started to return. Let’s hope we can continue to promote our own lads without mentioning that lot. It’ll be a while yet though until we are singing our hearts out again. And, while I’d definitely be an advocate for a safe standing or at least an unreserved seating area, I’m not convinced that we need to create an ultras section to do that.

  13. And not a personal insult in sight. A great example to others that it can be done. I completely agree on Waggott. There is no evidence he deserves direct credit so far. What he has ‘overseen’ is the list that you have posted, plus the home shirt and the shirt pricing generally. All of the good things that the club has put in place where before his time. It could be argued that he has helped with the transfer budget but this happened last season when Cheston was here and Mowbray got his targets so I’m inclined to believe that Mowbray is the lead on those things. Can’t think of one improvement that Waggott (or even the board) have made that has benefitted the fans. It’s been across the board price rises and cost cuts. It’s so minor but three season tickets in one envelope (sensible) with only one credit card sized fixture list between us (miserly).
  14. Lovely jubbly. It’s what messageboards are all about. Enjoy it. Join in. But keep it clean. I’m sure some people want the board to be completely silent apart from some approving comments just after a signing.
  15. Won his first game though. I’m torn personally. Same with Gerrard. They will both have incredible support networks you can be sure of that. It will come down to their own personal hunger and desire, and the tactical abilities of their number two. And of course results in the short term. It’s not often any more that the top English players become managers - certainly not successful ones. The most recent successful players-turned-managers off the top of my head are all non-English... Dalglish Souness Mark Hughes (kind of) Guardiola Zidane Deschamps Beckenbauer Ancellotti Cruyff The only Englishman I can think of racking my brain is Brian Clough. Ironically, the best manager England never had, who never got the chance because of the politics (and fear) within the crumblies at the F.A. History backs you up though as it suggests that ex-England players don’t do all that well in management: Barnes, Ince, Adams, Neville, Gascoigne, Shearer, Southgate. Probably Ince and now Southgate being the best of a very bad bunch. It’s probably because they have had so much smoke blown up their backsides all through their careers that, one, they believe their own hype, two, they were naturally gifted and can’t cope with failure, and, three, they don’t have the staying power and determination required to stick at it and work even when things go badly and something they aren’t so gifted at. They were fit and supremely gifted footballers but their grey matter and ability to turn what they could do so easily into what others could do was lacking. (Roy Keane once said as much). Management and especially man-management and tactical astuteness requires a totally different set of skills that, even if they were a captain, they don’t have. It does make me wonder what some of the older generation had that the modern day footballer doesn’t. Money, loyalty and a belief that they haven’t really done anything until they have won a competition no matter what their contemporaries say? P.S. The other one that nearly did it and should probably be higher than Ince is Kevin Keegan. He just didn’t deserve to be in the list with those chumps). P.P.S. Steve Bruce should have been the other success story but again he was, astonishingly, never picked for England. So maybe it is a curse! TLDR: England players are jinxed when it comes to management.
  16. To be fair, you’re a fair minded poster. But I wish that others applied the same logic to everyone. JAL is absolutely NOT on the wind-up, he’s not a dingle, and certainly not some of the other childish names being dished our. He’s one of the elder statesmen of the site and should be allowed to have his opinion. He clearly has a chip on his shoulder about certain agents and the motives of those who have dealt with them. He doesn’t help his cause when he doesn’t (or can’t) elaborate further. This isn’t a closed shop site, it’s a goldfish ball on a shelf that can be seen by anyone (by default at least). He’s not blameless, no, and he isn’t always right, of course, but he is pushed and prodded regularly and folk turn the other cheek. Unlike the other end of the spectrum who have a justice league style defence network who jump in almost immediately. People certainly wouldn’t walk up to JAL in the street and say the things they do to him put it that way.
  17. Not sure why UEFA are so protective of the 3pm ko? You’d think it was to ensure fans go to the game but when so many matches are moved anyway it makes a bit of a mockery of that rule. Being able to watch every Rovers game on TV wouldn’t stop be getting a season ticket but it may put off a lot of others. For me it’s an event and not a TV show.
  18. http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/news/16211667.rovers-season-tickets-set-to-go-on-sale/ Children up to 7 are free in the family stand with a paying adult. Used to be 8 but still a good offer. Totally agree about teens and young adults though. If they are still in full time education they aren’t earning so it’s just milking the parents again. If they are earning, chances are it will be a Saturday. Could we offset the price of a teen by charging a bit more for kids? I wouldn’t mind at all paying £25 for a season ticket for a child under 7. That could offset the “older children”.
  19. You don’t help yourself mate but the abuse you’ve had to put up with since late yesterday has been pretty disgusting. Most of those posts appear to have been left to stand by the mods too, which is disappointing. Hopefully these will be picked up this morning. If the hateful posts had been aimed at another member, there would have been some bans or at least sin bins handed out. At the very least the uber-positive posters would certainly have had one or two others wading in to defend them. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Everyone is not entitled to spew personal abuse at others. We all like a joke and a bit of ribbing but let’s not make it personal.
  20. Not sure free is right, it requires a lot of hard work. But I take your point.
  21. Disagree. The manager’s job is to get the best people for the job and to ensure that unity and team spirit. It won’t be a happy group for long if we keep losing games. Talent is just as important as team spirit.
  22. Was he one of the two photographed looking like two naughty school kids outside the head teacher’s office?
  23. That’s all well and good but what we really want to know is... do you recommend MI: Fallout?
  24. Don’t be shy barry, say what you really think. We’re all friends here.
