Part of me hopes they get through. A short European campaign could well ruin their start to the season. The sooner Bumley are relegated the better.

The thing that I’m most disappointed in is the calibre of players that we have been linked with L1 and L2 players. Maybe decent but very much gambles and certainly no better than our first team. Mowbray must really believe that our current XI is capable of avoiding relegation this season and simply wants to bring in players to push them for a starting place. Personally I’d be looking at one or two loanees from Championship or even PL sides and for the existing players to raise their game to get into the team. We need another Danny Graham when he first came in on loan. Hopefully the lack of links is just our new strategy of keeping leaks at an absolute minimum. Hopefully our playing style will appeal to teams who want to give experience to their better prospects.

Ironically this appears to have been initiated by our main ITKer in recent times. Why would anyone turn down being given more money to spend? To lower expectations? I’d be astonished if Mowbray said to Venkys “no don’t give me any more money, we’ll just make do”.

This is what people have done for the last few years though. We’ve got all Summer. We’ve got all July. There’s no rush. The World Cup is on. The window doesn’t shut until the end of August. Nobody else is signing anyone. We need to trust the manager - he is getting the right deals and avoiding paying over the odds. The season hasn’t started yet. The season’s only a week old. There’s still time yet. Then when we do finally make some last minute signings - the killer... They need time to gel - they’ve not had a proper pre-season. And when we don’t... He’s keeping his powder dry.

So a family or group of four people rock up at the last minute and they have to pay £12 extra. Would they be happy with that? I wouldn’t. I can’t see how this is good for the club. There have to be more imaginative ways to generate income AND maximise the footfall.

All part of the strategy. Relieve the simpletons of whatever they are prepared to pay. Then sell the price increases as benefits of buying a season ticket or a future deal. Marketing 101.
